I just want to address the issue of the drone flight in Victoria because I've received some comments and private messages about it! Canada has quite strict but very strange and sometimes confusing drone laws, and the instructional leaflets don't always tell you the whole picture. The drone used in Victoria was under 250 g takeoff weight, which is considered a "microdrone" in Canada. They are not restricted by all the same laws as 250g+ drones and in this case it IS in fact legal to fly such a drone in Victoria. Of course you still have to fly safely, you can't fly in a negligent or reckless manner, which is why I only flew the drone during the night when the seaplanes are not operating. Fly safe everyone! 🤓
Hey hey hey! Hope you had fun watching this one, we're on our way to Alaska and hope to make it there before the winter ends! For a closer look at the journey, check out my Instagram or Facebook (doesn't really matter which, I post mostly the same content to both). Not all of the happenings get included in the videos and those I share over at Ig/FB: instagram.com/alluringarctic/ facebook.com/alluringarctic/ Have a good one!
But I always thought that Sohvi is the best! She is the background of everything you do, if you notice. And having a background gives you stability, Juho.
Hello! Welcome to BC! If your end up moored or anchored for the night in Comox would be happy to take you two out for a beer. Or bring some to the boat. I know some great spots for you to check out on your way up the Island and Inside Passage. Loving your adventures!
Hi, Welcome to Canada A tip I learned from American customs is all food that has been processed is not considered imported. So make a salad or sandwich and it does not need to be declared. Raw potatoes are not permitted, but a potato salad is good to go. Also, the Tequila met an unnecessary end. Open liquor is not counted in what you are bringing in to the country. So crack the seal have a swig and it does not need to be declared. Only unopened bottles are counted. Enjoy your stay and the inside passage Jeff
Anyone who spends months slaving away under the sun in California, in order to be able to get off a boat and go sking is bonkers, but committed to their passion. Keep it coming, it just gets better.
The "hidden" content of your videos, apart from technical and esthetical, is... psychological. Your whole competent and calming personality, impacts any receptive viewer. "For some reason want to watch these videos." Of course some people want to watch these. You do a good job editing and telling a story, and the contents of the story are interesting. You both are awesome. Thanks for curating your adventures for us landlubbers
Welcome to Canada. Pay very close attention to your charts going up the inside passage - zooming in will find those rocks ! Tides are very high , lots of tricky currents and those pesky logs are everywhere. Stay safe , warm and dry - its called the " Wet Coast " for a reason !
Juho & Sohvi: There I finally got those correct. I have been following you for over a year and as an 80 year old non-sailer enjoy every minute of your videos. I’ve had many questions about my Alluring Artic t-shirt in which people cannot believe why anyone would enjoy all the cold most of the time. As someone who goes north in the summer and south in the winter I guess I would ask the same question. Be safe and I’ll be looking forward to the next chapter in your lives.
Logs will be a big problem until you head across the gulf at Cape Fairweather. The winter high tides will be bringing even more than usual off the beaches. It is a tough time of year to make this trip. Just keep the radio up and on 16 for traffic and notices to mariners for potential hazards. Canadian Coast Guard radio is good at getting everyone through with minimal incidents. Have fun at Seymour Narrows, plan carefully for Johnstone Straights and Queen Charlotte sound ;-}
There was a Canadian television series in the 1970/80s, The Beachcombers, and a lot of what they did was boat around the passages in BC and taking loose logs from the water. Some may come organically from the shore from storms, and probably many come from broken log booms.
I grew up watching the Show in Vancouver. Had a friend later who actually edited the show. Now I'm watching this, as an Expat of 30 years, from Cologne, Germany. Feeling just a little homesick 😢
I sailed the inside passage from Bellingham to Alaska 3 times 2016 - 2018. You're going to want to get serious about your log watches in the passage and especially off of Cape Caution. Pay attention to particularly high tides as they tend to float a lot of logs that were previously stuck on shore. The trip is stunningly beautiful. Enjoy!
Welcome to BC, my Home Province . I've been following your Videos and really enjoy them. Hope you enjoy your sail up the coast of BC. Nice to see the inner Harbour of Victoria and the Night Lights.
Indeed I am watching. I have watched you from your beginning. Your sweet Finland personalities and experiences in places I will never see complete each boring week of Iowa, USA. Besides, no one says the word 'crap' so elligantly. Thanks. Be safe!

Welcome to my hometown Victoria. I just began sailing last year. I enjoy your channel and appreciate your use of the English language and purity of speech. May God richly bless you two.

Y’all are pioneers of a sort, making your lives full of the elements you most cherish. Skiing has always brought me to tears of joy, untethered and soaring as best I could like a bird in flight. The fact that you guys move on trails goat like up the slopes to then carve them down with childlike glee means you get ‘it’ too. The fact that you do so via a ship of your dreams means ever so much more exuberance on display. These lives you lead are such a blessing to observe for my old spirit. I can’t thank you enough for ‘Going for it’.
Hey there, after watching 1-2 videos of you, i decided to sub and watch the whole playlist here. Im no sailor but i would love this kind of living. But not everyone has the possibility for it, so i just watch videos about it and enjoy other ppl sailing :-P So far your channel is alot fun to watch and i hope i will see many more cool videos about your journeys. Cheers from Germany :-)
This is an interesting juxtaposition from what I normally watch, which is people from here in Lower Mainland Canada buggering off to surf waves in places tropical from the boat. It’s cool to watch you deliberately sail during what most of us consider the hmmph season to ski from the boat. I hope that sailing into Victoria from Finland was as cool to you as many people find sailing into somewhere else from here!
After our first trip up North and seeing all those logs and log gyres we decided that a metal boat would make us more comfortable. So the journey began to find the right boat. We still hit one now and again but besides the wake up call nothing has happened. On another note if you think Victoria Harbor is complicated at light try the summertime when are are hundreds of seaplanes in and out. There are “runways” in the harbor but I am not sure the markers are lit. Perhaps they clear them out during the Winter. You are going to love Prince William Sound but I think you will find some skiing before then between Yukutat and Icy Bay. Mt St Elias is a magnificent mountain and sure to please any adventurous off piste skier.
I have been following a couple of other sailing vlogs, but I am finding yours so interesting. The others are warm water sailors with new boats. I love yours because you do so much for yourselves. I was raised to do things for ourselves. We grew our own veggies, hunted for meat and did all the canning and freezing for ourselves. I also live in Washington state and love the scenery you are traveling through. Thanks for all the great stories. You guys are great.
Welcome to Canada to both of you. I have been following your chanel for awhile & enjoy your content. Happy to see you are growing it as well. Wishing you both good health , more wealth and of course happiness. I am sure you will find great skiing in Alaska. Be safe & enjoy life.
These logs you saw are common near the commercial ways. The tug boats haul them between vancouver and the fraser River. Watch out!! Some of them can be 10m long and very heavy. Also, keep distance from any of the tug boats. They haul long cables between the boat and the cargo - impossible to see! Some of the operators use bright lights and blind you if you are on their way. Good luck with the sailing 😀😃
I had always wondered why these Fins are crazy enough to go to Alaska in the winter, but it all makes sense now, skiing from the boat sounds incredible! you really need to get that message out there, and I think you’re going to acquire a lot of followers. Good luck to you. I’m watching this from Colorado, so I’ll be snowboarding, this week, but wishing I could go sailing.
Great video, I follow you because I love sunshine and all things summer. I am Not a cold-place person, but enjoy the beauty of these places through your eyes. Thank you
Bienvenue au Canada! Watch out for logs all the way to Prince Rupert. There are many streams and mighty rivers all the way up the west coast that spew logs into the ocean. Bon voyage!
We very much enjoyed this video Juho and Sohvi. Your drone shots are exceptional, your humour makes us laugh out loud and your attention to detail and precision is admirable. All the best as you continue your journey north. 🇨🇦⚜️ Bienvenue!
it's so lovely when people love what they do and aren't doing it to 'beat the market' or 'do sweat equity' or show off their 'lifestyle'. it's really soothing and engaging to hear the explanations of engine issues and centre boards, and the shots of sailing are fantastic. definitely I like that you are so busy living life there's not too much either. thanks to both of you for these videos.
great to see you getting into Canada! about the logs, Vancouver is at the inlet of the Frazier River which is the main logging transport channel for BC. Going north via the inland sea, there wont be much logging activities and no waves, although the current will be crazy at the top of Vancouver Island. On the skiing, you might want to consider taking a couple of days when you get to Anchorage and do a trip into Shugash mountains where the best powder/heli skiing in the world is based, amazing place!
I lived and sailed on the Salish sea for about 10 years. There are always logs all the way up - you only need to look at the beaches and shores. You have to keep a watch at all times. Because of the NW and SE winds the sea can be extremely rough and 8 to 10 feet swells with a lot of chop are common. If we’re getting names right it’s the Fraser river. I think Frazier was a tv show. 😂😂. Enjoy the sail, some of the best in the world.
I am a local liveaboard here in Vancouver. If you plan to make a stop in fasle creek and need a safe place to keep your dinghy while you go to shore let me know. Also, you will get used to dealing with logs. You are going to see a lot around Vancouver Island.
Juho and Solvi, We have nearly 5,000 NM cruising your intended route to Alaska in early winter. This area is heavily impacted by the warm Japanese current as far west as Anchorage. From the first landform to 40 NM inland you will seldom find snow below 1,000 feet asl. As your intent is to take Lumi to the next "pond" east and will probably not pass this way again, suggest you trade those boards for kayaks and explore this region on your way to the Bering Sea!!
I like your sailing content. You both seem to be very honest and real, so it is fun to watch. Refitting is more dramatic (as you said), but the real sailing - especially in winter - is much more attractive to me. I am not a sailor and I live in Germany. All the best, Armin
Another fine video, Sohvi is a natural I’m not a sailer but I dream about what you two are doing. I never thought of a water passage north of Canada that’s what I find so fascinating that a personal sailing vessel will be traversing this area. I look forward to your videos but please don’t feel rushed to get them out. Be safe.
The inside passage tend s to be next to no wind or gales. Be aware, especially on night watch. It can get ugly fast and I have firsthand knowledge of that. 41" sloop rigged to single hand.
A little over a year ago I picked up my 45 year old 30ft sail boat from Victoria. Since then I've gained some experience crossing that same border (I live in Canada, but moor my girthy girl in Point Roberts WA). I've never had a customs agent step foot on my boat. When you sail our waters regularly you get good at spotting the logs! After following this channel for a long time, it's cool seeing you both in my neck of the woods!
Thank you Juho & Sohvi for making this video... It really sucks that there's so many floating logs out that way which requires you to definitely keep you on your toes, which becomes stressful after a while.. Wishing you both well & a safe voyage..
I have always had power boats. That said, I greatly enjoy your videos even though I am not a sailer. They are interesting and enjoyable. Don’t underestimate yourself or your yourselves.
Great trip and getting into Canada with no issues, even with the dreaded apples….! Victoria looks fab with all the boats lit up. There is a TH-camr there sailing Blue Moon I think, lovely couple who may be worth talking to. Stay safe. Andy UK
Your videos are amazing and actually thrilling in my opinion! You have restored this boat beautifully and now to see your travels in her is pretty exiting. You make a great team as well! I’ll follow along and I thank you for sharing your adventures.
Seeing this brought back great memories of sailing into Victoria. We found the Canadian customs people were always great. Returning to the US was usually like facing the Gestapo.

Yes, the king tides this time of year pull the debris of the beaches.

Juho, thanks for the videos. They are really great. Nice to follow your journey.
Juho and Sohvi you are great! 👍 Love the combination of snow and Sailing! ❄️❄️☃️🎿🏂⛵️Greetings from Luxembourg
I have always had power boats. That said, I greatly enjoy your videos even though I am not a sailer. They are interesting and enjoyable. Don’t underestimate yourself or your yourselves.
The phrase your looking for is ,Arm Chair Sailors 😉
Or arm chair barbers
What a beautiful couple.
Thank you so much for putting these out there! Wishing you both good health and be safe!!
Juho and Shovi loving your Journey thanks' for all of your updates the Boat looks really nice from your hard work !!!
Correction my friend, it's Sohvi...🙃
Wonderful video
I'm moving to this area soon! Point Roberts, WA. Hoping to get a boat so I can explore. Maybe not as far as you're going though. Have a safe trip.
Aces! Who wouldn't want to see what happens next?
Great trip and getting into Canada with no issues, even with the dreaded apples….! Victoria looks fab with all the boats lit up. There is a TH-camr there sailing Blue Moon I think, lovely couple who may be worth talking to. Stay safe. Andy UK
Your videos are amazing and actually thrilling in my opinion! You have restored this boat beautifully and now to see your travels in her is pretty exiting. You make a great team as well! I’ll follow along and I thank you for sharing your adventures.
Good sailing you 2.
Seeing this brought back great memories of sailing into Victoria. We found the Canadian customs people were always great. Returning to the US was usually like facing the Gestapo.
That's great they let you keep your apples💚
Well done brave sailors!
