Okay, so NOW, due to the pandemic, a LOT of auditions are self-tapes and Zooms. This video is more about what it's like at IN PERSON auditions. :)
Hi guys! In case you're curious about what the whole process of what auditioning for a commercial is like... here ya go! From the casting process to the actual audition, I lay it all our step by step.

I actually didn’t know they looked at your body language and the way you sit and walk. No wonder why I never book them lol. I’m not really proper

This was great, thanks for making this Video it gives me a little insight on the first audition. My Teachers in High School and College told me I needed to go to an audition as I had the natural acting personality. I was in a couple of plays at our Church plays everyone thought what I was saying was actually true but, it was only a play. I am 85 but, still active and play golf, dance and we entertain a lot. Just need an agent and a trial Audition. Thank you, Jerry

You certainly are Motivated. 85 years old and wanting to become an actor? Let us know how that works out I am serious Jerry. I'd love to know. I have studied Hollywood and Studios and Talent agencies for 31 years and haven't the answers myself. Al Pacino sort of answered me ON SET of Danny Collins where I was Featured in the TRAILER catching his scarf with sunglasses on in a NIGHT SCENE. (Long story but, I accidentally left them ON. lol Dan Fogelman, director was a little upset at first but, then looked in monitors and saw, hell, that looks pretty good. lol I dodged a bullet.). Anyway Pacino said, James, Preparation and LUCK made me a Legend. If not for francis Ford Coppola in The Godfather, Al might not have made it to this place and time? Who knows? He thinks he does but, Francis said, I AM STICKING WITH AL and he is my man for this part, THE DON. Son of Vito Corleone......I thought i'd get some magic answer to it all but, NO. Preparation and LUCK. That's it? Yes. Good Luck Jerry. I mean that. Let us know. I want to see you in a ton of Golfing Commercials.

These videos are extremely helpful! One additional tip: bring a copy of your headshot with you to the audition. Also consider creating a headshot sheet that shows your main headshot as well as a couple additional shots with other poses and/or wardrobe.
Thanks John! It's good to keep a headshot/res in your car, but not necessary to bring it with you into the commercial audition. Extremely rare for them to want one.

@@mitaliii I didn't make it. I tried my best. I gave my 100% effort during the Casting. I don't have any doubt to myself that time and I just remembered that If it is not your time. Its not your time. I just have to wait for the perfect time which will be given to me by God.

Everybody of you who auditions in North America should be thankful for it. Looks like all the persons you have to do with, agents, casting directors etc, work really professionally. I am based in Bangkok. I never get any explanation before I enter the casting room. It is only inside the casting room when I get to read about the scene and even what product the commercial is about. You certainly have to be able to improvise as an actor, but you somehow should have an idea what the deal is. If you are an American/Canadian and you have ever thought about trying out acting in Thailand, don't! Angie has given some great advice about how it works in L. A. I wish it was like this everywhere in the world.

Hi! I'm from Asia! Thank you for this! Really informative and this usually happens in our country before pandemic. Just to share, I got into commercials 10 years ago and just had 3 of them then I stopped because of my busy schedule at work and a family to take care of. Then pandemic hit last year and I was given a chance to do it again by doing a self-tape audition and castings via zooms. In a way it is very convenient but it's quite challenging too given the situation that I have to do everything like set-up the lighting, camera on tripod, hair and make up, outfit etc. But honestly, I kind of miss the actual audition but I'm not really complaining...I have 2 commercials now airing here. I want to be a better actor though, hope you can give us some tips! Do you have a cheat sheet for self-tape auditions? Again, thanks for sharing!!! Love your vlog and I just subscribed! =)

I have a live audition at a talent showcase in 2 weeks. As we’re allowed to have props and I’m not sure where and how close the camera will be (waist up, face and shoulders only, full body?), I’m not quite sure what to do with my hands. I feel like I have to be overly energetic almost to the point of cheesy, if that makes sense, and I don’t want it to feel awkward. Any tips?

Love your videos! They're so informative. Do you feel like you have to have an agent to be considered for these opportunities? Also, I know you mentioned in one of your other videos that you have a manager. Do you prefer a manager over an agent? Thanks so much for your insight!
Hey Charlene! To be submitted for most union projects, especially anything that pays well, you do need representation. I prefer having an agent AND a manager (the more people on your team submitting you, the better). Usually when you're first starting out, you have a manager, and then they can help place you with an agent.

Update: sooo... I made it the first round about 200 ppl there, 2nd day there was about 20. They told me they liked me a lot and things like that, but then it was mandatory to take 4 days of lesson for $2000! Obviously my parents couldn’t afford it (I’m 15btw) so I didn’t make it☹️
Use that nervous energy to your advantage! Make it your friend! Break a leg!

I’m from England, I’m in year 7 next year! Over the summer I’ve kinda wanted to audition for a commercial tho I don’t really do the school plays and I only get As in drama. My mum will find it stupid if I say I wanna audition for a commercial- I don’t have an agent, I’m a completely new actor..... what do I do??
Hi! I'm not sure if things work the same way in England as they do here, but since you're a minor you will probably need a parent with at auditions. And who knows, maybe if you explain to your mum that it's something you're passionate about trying, she'll be supportive!

What if it's like an audition like a zoom phone call what to expect on doing that
Hey Jasmin! So basically they send you a Zoom link ahead of time, and then ask you to log on about 10 min before your appt time. Then you log on, usually a casting assistant comes on and puts you in a virtual waiting room, and then when it's your turn, the casting director comes on. You usually can't see any of the producers or anyone else. Then when it's done, you log off! Pretty simple.

Go online and search for openings for mini skits, comercials and ads, Thats what i did and got tides most recent comercial

It always helps when you're smart, beautiful, fun, and connected. Not many have ALL these wonderful parts needed to get jobs and full time work. After 31 years at Warner Bros and many other companies we see a revolving door which is pretty sad. Even very good looking people like Brad Pitt and Angelina etc. who have the 'IT FACTOR' didn't have EVERYTHING needed to gain work and Fame. Al Pacino said it best in one film we did and spoke between filming 'Danny Collins at The Greek Theatre, 'Preparation and LUCK'. Every single actor I've spoken to uses this ONE WORD like Val Kilmer who I had Cancer with and Michael Douglas who helped me while fighting cancer, LUCK. Therefore, do your very best. Listen to the advise above. And 'Good Luck'. That's the game guys. Sadly there is no magic words and things you can do. I do wish you all the LUCK. That one 'thing' which gets you in those doors.

Angie, I think the reason why you haven't been called for a chocolate commercial is that your supposed to *eat* the chocolate.

What would happen if you DON'T have an agent? Do you need to memorize the dialogue?
You could look in places like Backstage West or whatever actors use in your area to find auditions, but for commercials they usually do go through an agent, even for non union commercials. If there is dialogue, then you need to be as familiar with it as you can. They usually have a big board in the room with all the dialogue on it as well.

@@fastingaccelerator6854 Do you mean a casting director who casts the commercials? You don't really find them, your agent submits your photo to them for jobs. But if you just want to know who they area, try a simple Google search for commercial casting directors in your city.
