  • Councils have been accused of pursuing a “scorched-earth strategy” as they slashed housebuilding targets in anticipation of a Labour government.
    READ MORE: www.thetimes.c...
Research seen by The Times shows that local authorities have cut plans to build thousands of homes by taking advantage of Michael Gove’s planning changes. It creates a serious obstacle to Sir Keir Starmer’s pledge to build 1.5 million homes within the first term of a Labour government.

This is a really interesting take on the housing market. People are being impacted by the long-term decline in property prices and the housing market. I recently sold my house in the Sacramento area, and I want to invest my lump-sum profit in the stock market before prices start to rise again. Is now the right moment to buy or not?

Safest approach i feel to tackle it is to diversify investments. By spreading investments across different asset classes, like bonds, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown. its important to seek the guidance of an expert

It's true that many people underestimate the importance of advisers until their own feelings burn them out. A few summers ago, following an ongoing divorce, I needed a significant push to keep my company afloat. I looked for licensed advisors and found someone with outstanding qualifications. She has contributed to my reserve increasing from $275k to $850k regardless of inflation.

Having somewhere safe, clean and affordable to live is a basic human necessity. Most working class people can only dream of affordable housing in 2024. It has become a luxury pushed by the rich who see housing as investment opportunities, thus pushing the prices up further and further. While homes remain investment opportunities for the few, they will remain unaffordable for the many.

It’s sad to see this lady living like this with her child. Although, the problem isn’t shipping containers, it’s badly designed shipping containers that aren’t maintained at all. Also, I noticed this lady lives in Ealing. House prices there have skyrocketed since gentrification, so it’s unrealistic for this lady to think she will find a house there, unless she’s prepared to move out of London to increase her options. So many Londoners, Londoners who were born in London and have lived in London all their life’s, have now left London because they can’t afford to live there. It’s not a choice that’s easy for anyone but the harsh reality that London is no longer for the working class.

@Moon133 This is not a new problem, we had a short period where housing improved, and it lasted about 30 years. Now we are reverting to how it used to be, private slum housing, overcrowded, rents high and high competition, erode council housing, restrict supply via regulation of building and lending.
What do you think people coped with before large scale new council housing post WWII? There was some council housing built after WWI, but quite limited before WWII got underway and loads of housing was flattened.
Why do you think villages like New Lanark. Bourneville and Port Sunlight were built by factory owners in the 19th century? Its because housing was so shockingly bad for their workers they decides to use company profits to make a better life for their workers. Then the welfare state was supposed to do that on a mass scale, and to some extent it has suceeded compared to pre WWII.
Have a look at Charles Booths Inquiry London 1886 to 1903 and the classifi ation of poverty. Watch a couple of episodes of Call The Midwife to see the story from workhouses and tenements to high rise flats.

Well, who would have thought that multi year on year hyper immigration (and that's just the legal) much of it unskilled/dependent into a country with a completely unstructured economy regionally would lead to a housing shortage?
The answer isn't to build on every spare piece of London for example. It's to control immigration and to better balance the economy and opportunities so people don't all come and live in places like London and major cities. The current onslaught of people coming in isn't sustainable and is a really bad deal for the state. For example, why are we giving social housing out to foreign born people???? I think in London now nearly 50% of people in social housing are foreign. Madness... As a human being I feel sorry for this lady in the video, but why is she here in the UK, what does she do??? Where is the father???
We are at the dawn of an age where AI, Robotics and automation are converging which should make everything cheaper and more efficient, yet our governments are importing people like it's the industrial revolution because they think it will somehow increase the incredible punitive personal tax base and lower inflation (which it doesn't, it just lowers productivity). What are all the Deliveroo and Uber people going to be doing in a few years' time??? How much do they consume in state resources???? I haven't even touched on the social and cultural issues. The politicians and leaders have zero ideas.

This emergency accommodation might not have been too bad when it was first constructed and for maybe the first year or two. But, as is typical in this stupid country, it isn’t being maintained properly and the results of that neglect are what this poor woman is having to deal with. Even “rough and ready” shipping container homes aren’t indestructible and they’ll have fixtures and fittings which need maintenance or replacement due to natural wear and tear. The other issue the mum mentions, ie the fact that her area is blighted by junkies and thieves, is just a symptom of the wider collapse of civic society and also inadequate policing.

My understanding was 5.6 million on benefits and 9 million economically inactive, of which I am one. I don't get any benefits and still pay some tax from investments.
But I agree with your first question, where do you put everyone? In the last two years we needed to build 3 cities the size of Liverpool to accommodate the increase in population. Plus the hospitals, schools etc that goes with the housing.

    • @robertguildford
      @robertguildford 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@hilarygibson3150 Thanks for your reply Hilary. My source was a charity speaker who quoted that figure publically when addressing a welfare benefits adjustment/ cut back by the Government earlier this year. It resonated with me as I was appalled at the figure quoted as it represents circa 11% of the population we have. He may have been exaggerating and as I have accepted this information vicariously, therefore I would not offer a rebuttal to your figures.
It distresses me enormously that so many question's like the aforementioned one I posed on population numbers, are not voiced by the Parlimentarians and the media.
What do Parlimentarians debate in Parliment, certainly not reviving the economy or creating meaningful jobs. Britain is in the cycle of decay this, because of past incompetent Politicians of both the main parties.
They allowed " market forces" to guide the reigns of power or they were to concerned with meddling in the social order or being impotent to destructive militancy. Durative seeds were not shown for the future by lack of wisdom in appreciating the rules of change. 1) Decay follows growth and 2) you are the either the master of change or the victim of change. Britain is being left behind because of this. We now have a incestuous economy services, house building, house sales. All this is dependant on the disposable income of the workers and what few producers we have left.
I will not burden you further with my frustrations Hilary. I will close by offering my condolence for your presently being economically inactive and sincerely hope you find a situation that is worthy of your skills.

It’s tough but it’s free . That’s how social housing gets by , they make no money back on it so don’t have the cash to make them that lavish , I’ve seen worse and I’ve seen better and people still complain. If you’re on the benefit for longer than 2 months something is wrong and you need to rectify that . Social welfare is a fall back not a full time option. Is the dad paying child support ? Is the dad in the picture ?? People on the benefit that keep getting pregnant need a serious talk , if you can’t afford kids get on the pill. I’d like to know her working background since arriving or has she been on a benefit for years ?
