    Semi-related: I like to set up an amp sim in the Unison slot and a 2nd instance of the amp sim in the Insert slot. I disable the cabinet section on the Unison and I disable the amplifier on the Insert. Then I set the Insert slots to "MON" so I do not record the cabinet.
    This gives me the ability to record the performance with only the amp sound going to tape and "monitor" it through a guitar cabinet for the sake of the performer hearing a natural amp/cab sound.
    I now have the freedom to select any guitar cabinet or combination of IRs for all my guitar performances in the mixing phase. Allows me to skip a bit of over-thinking during the recording phase.

      I often do the same! Thanks for the great comment!

      Interesting. When you do this method, can you use a 3rd party ir during the mixing phase? And if so, where do you put the ir?

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jayl5941 Yes! In your DAW you are recording the amp distortion only (no cabinet) with this method. That means you would need to add an IR or a cabinet plugin like MIKKO2 inside your DAW.

    Outstanding.
    My instincts sense your taste in sound is close to my own only, only I am a wearing assorted noob shackles....
    Keep the fun stuff coming, and thanks!

    This channel is such a finding! Thanks!
    Could you show us how to get rid of the dry guitar sound that insists on showing up in the output signal?

    • @MattHepworth
      @MattHepworth  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! There are 3 ways the dry can get through: channel not muted in Console (when using pre-fader aux this is required), second aux not muted, or DAW direct monitoring not off.

    New to UAD so perhaps stupid question, but can I or how can I record a set up like this? Is there a way to record the AUX channels? Great tip, thanks

    • @MattHepworth
      @MattHepworth  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely! In your Apollo I/O just make sure you've added the Auxes as Inputs. From there, you can access those inputs in most DAWs. LUNA doesn't currently allow that, but most other DAWs do.

      Thank you! It was probably my Twin mk II, but may have been my x4. I was changing to the x4 around that time for home.

    I like your creativity Matt. It is an interesting technique, but, you're not taking advantage of the Unison slots which mean any input impedance matching is lost. I'm thinking of just getting a splitter for my guitar signal and coming into either two unison amps directly, or more desirable, one unison amp, and the second input would just be a dry DI. I'm going to subscribe and see where things go :)

    • @MattHepworth
      @MattHepworth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! While it's true it doesn't take advantage of Unison, the good news is later Apollos are impedance of 1M ohm, which is considered to be the average impedance across many amps. Splitters will affect impedance slightly, but I'll have a quick vid with an easy way to do it that won't, and you may already have what you need.

    Great vid Matt! Can one do this directly in Luna or only via 'console tracking mode'?

    • @MattHepworth
      @MattHepworth  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! You can sort of do this in LUNA as well. You'll need to add the buses in LUNA and follow a similar workflow. I'll look at doing a similar, general, bux/aux flow in LUNA. Thanks again!

      @@MattHepworth Hey Matt, thanks for this video. Did you ever make the video about how to do this in Luna? I love this stereo sound and am making a bit of a pigs ear trying to actually record it out of console. Cheers again.
