This has to be the worst instruction of how to hit top spin I’ve ever heard/seen and I really hope people do not listen to this. Her ball often bounces twice before hitting the fence (which is not very far behind the baseline), which indicates a fairly weak shot and not a lot of heavy spin. And your whole following through to your hip situation situation is horrible advice and contributes to weak, non-effective shots, even though they are in and possibly in more consistently after your instruction, just making a shot is not the main quantifier of a good shot. I appreciate your passion for the game but calling yourself a tennis doctor is so blatantly misleading, unless you always specify that your intended audience is purely the general country club clientele, otherwise it is truly a disrespect to the game of tennis and all of the incredible technical coaches out there
Yea , i agree with you and not doc, with a semiwestern, your forehand should naturally brush upwards not downwards, i just scrolled through some of his reels and its shockingly bad advice that doesnt sound right, eg he says slow balls are harder to hit than fast balls, also he says you should stand tall when you land after contact on a serve
You guys are definitely 3.0 tennis players. This is how you actually hit the tennis ball. Extension through the hitting zone is how you impart massive topspin, pace, and consistency. The average strike on tour is a 39 degree angle of attack. You telling me the pros are doing it all wrong?
While his instruction can work, it does not promote bio mechanics and the kinetic chain. It’s important to understand how to use the strings and beginners should never be taught to hit this way. It is far too flat and does not promote feel. I am a certified pro who’s played some higher level tournaments and have fixed players like these from years of incorrect coaching. The main concept behind low to high is to create racquet head momentum so when the strings brush the ball, the ball rotates quickly promoting the downward motion you see in heavy topspin players. With all of my students we work on this motion first and then moving to the slightly flatter ATP modern forehand comes much quicker and with better precision & power. I hit the forehand well over 100 MPH, top serve is 135 MPH so kind of know what I’m talking about when it comes to power & spin! At the end of the day, each student is different and coaching has to be applied to the individual.
The problem is that players are taught to swing low to high, with no mention of the most important piece which is full extension through the hitting zone. Andre Agassi used to say the most important parts of the swing were the 6 inches before and after the ball. The vast majority of players I teach all have very short extension because they are so focused on "brushing up" the back of the ball after years of hearing this concept. I would rather have folks learn the correct technique and then dial it in versus using old corrupted wisdom.
came here to say the same. this is literally just a young kid that's probably pretty average at tennis making a channel and teaching people what to thinks is right, with zero confirmation from the rest of the world. I have never seen a coach so clueless.
She literally forces her arm down after finishing high because she's trying to listen to you, and it just looks painful... and she already has pretty sound mechanics 🤦♂️
That’s also a specific forehand shot known as the lasso shot which is only done when he’s on the back foot or moving backward into the shot. When moving forward into the ball his follow through is flatter
bro wtf are you on. I'm an elite player, and this is the most bs advice I have ever heard for more topspin. let's see who's famous for top spin??? thiem? nadal? ruud? go have a look at their fh, they are super vertical. tennis doctor is just the worst.
@@BriasRocks I was mainly referring to finishing above your shoulder. Karue had a great video on heavy topspin where I thought he explained it pretty well and even there the finish is never above the shoulder. I do think trying to finish above the shoulder might be a good way to force people who swing only with their arm (as opposed to legs, and shoulder) to have a low to high swing.
@@sk3lat0n Idk what you’re watching karue sell always finishes over the shoulder especially if he’s not going 100%😂😂😂😂. There’s different swing paths for different shots, low to high, and high to low, and across body
Dude, the coach should demonstrate at least once what he is talking about by hitting a few shots. It seems like a lot of talk or theory without any demonstration of what needs to be done. U leave the viewer imagining.
Yes because the tool is only meant to teach the concept of the low to high swing path for topspin. In reality, the angle changes depending on what you want the ball to do.
Great! I wish more coaches would explain the topspin forehand this way instead of telling you to swing up on the ball. Kevin from TotalTennisDomination channel also hammered this point over and over yet people are still not listening. I think the issue is that most of those steps by steps videos are so focused on key points to hit that they miss the functional aspect that Kevin and TennisDoctor explained. The shoulder and bigger muscles, your hip, your leg. Not your arm. That's what most still don't understand about the modern forehand. No one would ever imagine teaching an aspiring soccer player to kick a ball on the ground and focusing on having their foot move from low to high. Instead, they use their hips and the foot is just there for the ride.
❗ The thing is that even if you do not lift the hand one bit, the RACKET HEAD still moves upwards due to the pronation oft the forearm, and that is enough to create topspin. BUT you definitely get MORE topspin, if you also move your hand upwards.
This is…. Not good advice. You need to brush the ball by coming up to it from a lower position, and follow through upwards and over your shoulder. Combined with power you will get topspin
The ball will not high go over the net with this technique and suffer low rpm which is not what a top spin definition is about That, combined with the instruction about having an arc-y serve toss in another video, is making me unsure of this guy

You are completely wrong about topspin! Rafa Nadal has the highest rpm topspin on tour and his swing finishes high.. in fact around his head...
Rafa has one the most extreme forehands in tour. I don't think it is a good example to compare.
That’s also a specific forehand shot known as the lasso shot which is only done when he’s on the back foot or moving backward into the shot. When moving forward into the ball his follow through is flatter
she needs to learn the basics first... Buggy whip is not for everyone.. even professionals dont use much
Great video. Love your instruction about how to actually hit a tennis ball in the modern era. All these other commenters have zero clue.

True
But you would get more height and bounce even more spin sometimes finishing over the shoulder doctor
💯
That's fair, if you want insane spin, but you really have to swing like nadal, have his speed and strength to actually gain any benefit from it.

Isn’t this counter to the topspin tool people can buy?

Not 1. Time this guy gives terrible advices....
Extra Large racket and artificial strings = as much topspin as you want.
Why is she wearing a Victoria secret outfit to play a sport? Notice that the guy is dressed for tennis. Did she not have time to change for tennis?
