Wow weee Rory! I have been following you since day 1 on the Microlights and to follow your progress onto rotary has been epic! Massive congratulations on the ME IR, what an absolutely brilliant achievement, and also congrats to you and Lizzie on the birth of your absolutely gorgeous little man! (You may remember I kept telling you that you looked like the F1 driver Sebastian Vettel when you had your sunglasses on!) Anyway, great job and looking forward to seeing you in a full time job on the Heli! Take good care, Julian
Rory, congratulations. I am not surprised one bit to hear you have been too busy to post / upload. I am writing with knowledge about the transition from PPL/CPL even ATPL - the multi IR is THE hardest exam and at whatever age - you have to immerse yourself. The annual check rides are NOT that much easier, but the more frequently you fly them, the more comfortable you will feel. Always respect the weather and aircraft. Massive congratulations again - look forward to hearing about your job. When you have time, would be interested in hearing a video about the turbine conversion and IR training - in terms of cost, exams and exam pressure in terms of passing / failing each part. Although I am fixed wing, perhaps our paths will cross. although I am at the other end of the career spectrum, about to retire..
Thank you for your encouraging comments. Yes, I have some great footage from the turbine type rating and plan to do a more detailed video about that in due course. Check rides seem to get everyone's blood pressure up but I'll cross those bridges when they come. I hope our paths do cross - always good to put faces to youtube handles. All the best
Congratulations, Multi Engine Heli IFR ticket is definitely the best career move for a Helicopter pilot in my opinion and no easy thing to pass. Well done and good luck with the job hunt.

Thank you! That’s great to hear you’re starting your flying journey. I would say the TKIs will help you get through the exams. Think about how you’re going to finance your training after the CPL too! Good luck. 👍
Well done Rory congratulations on your great achievement, regards to your wife and Jack and a smile to video best regards from Mike at Yeovil ps super video.
Rory you must have risked a fortune to achieve that qualification. Well done. Employers will be queueing up to have you fly their rotary assets. Nice looking baby. Most aren't.
Thanks Jed, yes he’s had a very busy 6 months too actually. I’ll pass on your comment though! I’m hoping to get back to microlighting at some stage for sure.
It’s interesting that in the US the FAA doesn’t have any multi-engine ratings for helicopters, instrument or otherwise. The only helicopters that have type-ratings are those with maximum takeoff weights over 12,500 lbs.
Congrats Rory on your journey so far. Its great to see the step by step process. The biggest thing I think that's missing though it just how the money is sourced for something like especially how much is spent at the different license levels and how much of a risk it is to do this privately. Could I ask is it something you were gifted? (obviously dont have to be too specific) or was it just a matter of years of saving? Or does the audio world pay the way? Thanks in advance!
Hi Col, it’s always a tricky one when it comes to the money. I’ve been weary about talking about it as I only know now, having completed pre employment training, how much it has cost. I’ve borrowed from family, sold my house and used savings I’d built up over years of shift work at the BBC. It’s extremely expensive and there’s no way round that really. I have been thinking about doing a breakdown of the costs but I’m scared I’ll across like I’m showing off (which I’m not!) We’ll see!
@@RoryOnAir thanks for being as honest as you can as the the money side is so important for less fortunate people to engage with. I’m in the same industry as you were but more the filming side. I’ve wanted to do this since I can remember, however, can never get to the 150k and just go for it as lots of boring adukt finance things get in the way when you are freelance 😅. Wish I could say that I would be brave enough to sell my house but that’s just too much for me so hoping after this pandemic now I can rebuild the funds and begin my training soon. Good luck to you and hope you get that job and complete the dream. You have come this far 🙌🏼
@@request_lift yeah it’s a massive risk and I’m always wary of encouraging people to go for it because there’s no certainty that it’ll pay off. I’m very fortunate things have worked out ok for me so far and I’m hopeful about getting a job. I would certainly advocate doing it in the modular way and if you don’t think you can make commercial aviation your life I would highly recommend microlight flying for fun.
Congratulations! Good to see you back, guessed that you were busy - no apology needed, we all need balance in our lives and screen staring isn't what humans were designed for, in all truth. Jack is a bonny happy little lad, glad to hear that the family is doing well. Lots of positives in what has been challenging times, lovely to see. Always liked the look of the A109s, SAS and SBS used to like them too (under 658 Squadron) - very cool helo. I've been promising my better half a helo flight for several years (I'll go without heating a lighting through the winter months🙄🙄😲😄), and now I know of a highly qualified helicopter pilot for hire👍😄😄 Understandable that with a family, now that SARS2 is burning out🤞 that jobs will become available and you have to make good on your investment. Imagine coming back, with lots of practical experience under your belt, as an instructor - you and the students will be all the better for it👍👍😊😊 Go get your dream job!👍😊🤞😊

great job rory on air trast you to be my helicopter pilot any day sir
I've been promising my better half a helo flight for several years (I'll go without heating a lighting through the winter months🙄🙄😲😄), and now I know of a highly qualified helicopter pilot for hire👍😄😄
Understandable that with a family, now that SARS2 is burning out🤞 that jobs will become available and you have to make good on your investment. Imagine coming back, with lots of practical experience under your belt, as an instructor - you and the students will be all the better for it👍👍😊😊 Go get your dream job!👍😊🤞😊
Great comment, many thanks. Yeah I think things look pretty hopeful now. 👍
@@RoryOnAir 👍🤞🤞🤞
Aw mate, well done. And you never have to apologise for lack of content that you produce FOR FREE whilst also having a life :) brews still on me anytime you're in Barton.
Legend, thanks very much. 👍
Congratulations! 🙂
