Dude love your Civic build. The first car I ever bought on my own out of high school was a 98 Civic EX. After 200K miles I spun a bearing on the original D16 and it sat while I went off to USMC boot camp. After saving some cash I did JDM B18C ITR swap on base at the motor pool with my dad and some Marine buddies. Man that thing was fun. Not the fastest thing on the street but I loved gapping Mustangs. Some of the best memories from my youth were spent wrenching on that car. Even now at 40 I'm still obsessed with doing another ITR swapped EJ8 but this time with my son. Thanks for the inspiration. Stay obsessed!

I used to work at Magnolia HiFi in the 90's and was able to score 2 complete home theater sets one CHRISTMAS FOR 75% OFF MSRP. One set was M&K THX and the other was a top of the line Boston Acoustics VR series set up w/2 subs. Both were $5000 systems and I was able to get them for $1,250 per set. I remember that you had to PAY CASH and wait months for them to be built but it was SO WORTH IT!
I just recently got back into hunting down some used equipment and came across a guy selling a B&K avr202 and a 5pc set of Vienna Acoustic Hayden's. The guy originally had it listed for $200(including an old pioneer Kuro plasma) and came with at least $100 worth of cabling. Turns out the Receiver has a blown rear channel which blew out one of the surrounds so he offered me everything for $70. I ended up buying a used Theatro center channer for $180 and used one of the drivers to replace the blown driver from the surround/satellite. In the end, I paid $250 for a Vienna Hayden set and have an extra driver & tweeter. I found the original receipt w/the manuals and the Original owner paid $2,610 + tax for the speakers alone(from Tweeter out of San Diego). Also he had sent the AVR202 back to B&K at some point for the $1,000 upgrade to become an AVR212. Now I just need to find someone to fix the amp section(he had the original remote too).

      No, not so much.
Actually, it increases the effectiveness, as well as extending the effective bandwidth downward.
Absorption is achieved via velocity based devices, or pressure based devices.
Those ceiling panels are velocity based absorption.
When the sound energy encounters a boundary, the velocity is zero and pressure is maximum. Therefore, such an absorption panel on the surface isn't very effective.
Bracketing the absorption panel off the boundary surface by several inches, places the panel into a higher velocity area of the soundwave. Thus, increasing it's effectiveness.

Just found this older video and man, this was awesome! I actually subscribed to OG probably a year or so ago. I'm really not at all a car guy but I loved the way he covered audio gear. Clearly a super smart guy that doesn't seem to "review" hifi in the traditional way and despite being a dealer for just a few of his personal favorite brands and models he doesn't even seem to be "selling" people in his videos. He's an incredibly interesting guy to listen to.

Luckily I have a solution for the whole enjoying the theater thing. I'm a little OCD myself so I can definitely relate. There are two things you can do:
    1. Actively start rating movies you watch with a grade from 0 to 100.
A key here is that instead of focusing of what mistakes the movie makes, try to focus on the things that makes the movie better, and the things probably no one else would care to look for, basically those little details OCD people like us perceive in the narrative, storytelling, meaning, and philosophy behind anything occuring in the movie.
    2. Start ranking movies in terms of sound mix, sound quality, and sound editing. Make your 100 best sounding movies of all time, and rank them.
This is great because there are so many movies that they will always be changing in rank, so that top 100 will likely be very fluid, at least in the last positions, which is something that could definitely grab the attention and excitement of OCD people like us that care about those details.
For me a good parameter when it comes to sound are the movies Gravity, and Roma. Roma in particular because that movie has three different Oscar winners making the sound for a single movie, which is why it sounds so spectacular, even though the movie has no action whatsoever.
Those two are very good tricks for OCD people like us to start enjoying the home theater we already have right now while still leaving a little bit of mental space for improving the theater in the future without bothering us.
By becoming occupied in the rating, and ranking, we start putting attention to what the directors directly want to communicate, and what the movie itself communicates arbitrarily, which is something very exciting on its own.

Simply epic. So glad this guy gets in there and does it himself, even though he doesn’t have too. What an amazing property! Totally drooled over the bike more than anything else in the video... except possibly the outdoor bar setup. The grill is, after all, a mans natural habitat! Remember folks, there’s nothing wrong with having nice things as long as you remember to give to the Lord first!! Happy holidays!

Love Matt being so transparent with his OCD. He is an audiophile first / HT guy, with passion for cars, right down my alley. I would love to experience his HT once walls are painted black.
The Revel Performa system with all the acoustic treatment and the subs is fantastic. I love to listen to music concerts in my HT. My suggestion to Matt is to turn off one of the subs, bring the cross over down to 40 for the one sub, and I guarantee that he will love the experience of video music concerts on his HT. Thanks Mike. I miss the 'old' content frequency of posting.

Always watching your videos for my love of car detailing, but decided to watch your home theater video, because I love this stuff too. OMG, as I listened I heard you speak of JTR speakers/subs, Emotiva and Panasonic plasma TV. I have custom made JTR fronts and center, SVS sub, Emotiva amp, and will not let go of my 65" Panny plasma. I almost pulled the trigger on some Sonus Fabre speakers a few years back; but just too much for me. Couldn't believe that I heard you sold your house (what I thought was your dream home). Must be life is REALLY good. Can't wait to see your family's new place.

"I just like cool stuff" literally explains me in one sentence. I spend my nights researching an diving deep into things I like to find the best of the best no matter what it is. From pocket knives to headers for my two owner 01 GsR Integra to PC parts to pillows I'm on rn. It's the journey for those of obsessed with cool stuff. Investigating, researching, comparing then finally holding in your hands," yup, that's cool" and right onto the next thing.

The sound panels are separated from the wall to allow the sound waves to pass through it and bounce back into the panels from the other side.

Sound Advice - Yes! I bought a LOT of audio and video gear from them, and still own a some of it. They were so awesome that you could haggle over the price of some of their items. They also had a speaker upgrade program. If you bought a pair of speakers you had a year to upgrade to better speakers and got full credit for the speakers that you bought. Too bad they shutdown.
