  • Need to mount or install cabinets on a concrete wall (or cinderblock wall)? This video is for you!
    This video will show you how to attach or mount cabinets on a concrete or cinderblock wall using the french cleat method. However, this video shows all the basics to install the cabinet any way you want. Quite simply, I show you how to hang / install cabinets on concrete or cinder block.
    Step 1: Prepare the mounting board. You can use a 2x4, 1x6, etc.
    Step 2: If you decide to use the French cleat method, cut the board at a 45 degree angle. Next, attach the cabinet mounting board (cut at 45 degree angle (facing down) to the back of the cabinet. Install blocking at bottom of the cabinet (same size board as the cabinet mounting board).
    Step 3: Establish hanging level on the concrete/cinder block wall with laser level.
    Step 4: Drill holes in the concrete walls with a hammer drill and a carbide tipped bit.
    Step 5: Mount the hanging / ledger board (45 degree angle facing up) to the concrete / cinder block wall using tapcon concrete screws.
    Step 6: Place the cabinet on hanging / ledger board. You're done!

    Good short, clear video. I appreciate the use of the circular saw for those of us without a table saw. Don't forget that many of us do not have a laser level. I would have been tempted to screw cabinet to wall cleat, but after seeing this I think I'll first see if the weight alone is enough to keep it secure.

      I appreciate it, David! Thanks for watching! I didn't have any anxiety by just hanging the cabinets (since they were hefty) but a screw may not be a bad idea if the cabinets are light or you have kids. Thanks!

    nice video! is a 3/4 inch plywood good enough for the french cleat? would it help if I 'glue' the cleat to the wall first?

    • @AndrewThronImprovements
      @AndrewThronImprovements  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve actually heard of people using 1/2 inch! Before using glue, I would just mount a second cleat hanger on the bottom of the cabinet. But IMO that’s only necessary if you are going to be putting a ton of weight in those cabinets. Good luck with the project!

    One disadvantage of the French cleat method is that it makes the cabinets stick out from the wall by the depth of the cleat.

      Agreed - Thanks for watching!

    • @gregoryderwon3133
      @gregoryderwon3133 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can hide it by adding some wood on the side and bottom lining of the cabinet. with the same depth of the cleat of course. you will have to be creative with the space you actually need when placing the cabinet. Or you add the wood to the concreet where it lines up with the cabinet making it look flush.

    • @vhomukwevho
      @vhomukwevho 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can inlay (whatever the oppisite of offset is) the back board of the cabinet by the same width of the cleat making the cleat flush with the cabinet edges

    what if someone accidentally bumps it from underneath? it looks like its going to slide off

    • @AndrewThronImprovements
      @AndrewThronImprovements  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I put a work bench underneath to try and mitigate that - but you are correct that it COULD happen. Once you put stuff in the cabinet it is likely heavy enough that it wouldn’t pop off, but It’s still possible. Thanks for watching!

  • @TENTHIRTYONE
    @TENTHIRTYONE 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    No need for a few screws on the bottom of the cabinet?

    • @AndrewThronImprovements
      @AndrewThronImprovements  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @TEN THIRTY ONE That is actually a good point that I considered. If you are going to be storing heavy items in the cabinet, than I would recommend a second French cleat mounted to the bottom of the cabinet. I am only planning on storing light items in the cabinet, so I was comfortable using only one anchoring/hanging cleat. Thanks for Watching!

      Depending on your climate, using the cleats make you able to remove the cabinets and might be handy just to check for any cracks or water leaks in the concrete. Also allows the area to breathe behind them to prevent humidity and mildew.

    • @AndrewThronImprovements

      @@thedonssp I would go with 1” max - the thicker you go, the further out the cabinet will protrude from the wall. I think a lot of guys use 0.5” to 3/4” drywall for the French cleat. So 1” should give you a bit more durability without too much protrusion.
