    In this video Josh and Rachael try out Vetri Cucina in Las Vegas at the Palms Hotel and Casino. Let's just say we thought it was overpriced for the size of the portions, but was the food good?

    Sorry being a downer lately, but it's hard for me to enjoy a meal when the prices are this high. $400 with tip for dinner is too much. I am no cheap-skate, and make a very good living but Vegas is turning out to a vacation for the wealthy. Not the middle-class.

    The amount of food was so small! But the pricing has gone up for everything... we don't go high end, but even sit down casual is ridiculous. My wife and I stopped off just for a drink and an appetizer at a sit down chain place, even just that was $38 before tip... basically store bought tortilla chips and definitely not home made dips and two beers. Thank goodness we were not actually hungry. And then for lunch one day we went to a Korean soup place, one of my faves... very simple menu... but portions became smaller, they no longer provided some of the amenities that go with the soup... we only got one soup and 6 dumplings = $42. not going back, even though it's one of my faves. The appeal pre pandemic, was that it was simple and was a good value. not anymore.

      Part of me is wondering if we will look back on this meal as one of the turning points for us on how much Vegas has truly changed and value has simply gone out the window.
      We have certainly had very expensive meals before but we never felt like we “didn’t get our moneys worth” as much as some of the meals or dishes this past trip.
      It might be that we are being able to travel to so many other places and seeing that there are great options elsewhere.

    I just got home from Vegas, and I have to say Vegas is not geared for you to have fun, it is designed to take as much money from you that they can.
    We went to the Golden Steer steakhouse for two people, we had 4 drinks total and we had the Cesar salad for two no appetizers and no sides, we both had the 24 oz ribeye steaks and two oversized lobster tails and no dessert, the total with tip was an astonishing $707 total, the portions were excellent and very tasty but for two people it almost gave us a stroke 😢

Last year the cost per person was $88.88 before tax; this year, price jumped 45% to $125.88 per person before tax. To add insult to injury, they changed their menu options for this special brunch by eliminating certain items they offered on last year's menu. Couldn't agree with you guys more, but at least your food was all good.
    My family and I made the mistake of visiting Vetri on a trip last November. When making the reservation for 7:00, I informed them that we had a 9:30 show reservation and they assured me that would be no problem. They couldn't have been any more wrong.
    Seafood appetizers and salads were very good and arrived promptly. By 7:35 things were on a great pace and all appeared to be well. Then, the meal went completely sideways. Our waiter simply disappeared. We had long since finished our cocktails and our wine (ordered 20+ minutes prior) never arrived. Water glasses had long been empty, as well. After we had been ignored for nearly 40 minutes, I got up and flagged down another server who said he'd "try to find" our waiter. Our waiter soon emerged, but still didn't come to our table, instead going to an adjacent table and casually chatting with them about how often they come to Vegas and what shows they would be seeing. Finally, after over an HOUR since we had finished our prior course, our waiter brought our entrees. Instead of being apologetic for ignoring us for over an hour, he blamed the kitchen and told us they messed up our orders (which he had never come to explain) and we were "lucky" that someone "left before their entrees were served" and we now had their food (?!?). My daughter said her pasta was good, but my wife's fish was ice cold and hard (had obviously been sitting out for some time) and my grilled Wagyu was simply inedible. It was cold, unseasoned, and so damn tough it was like chewing on a baseball mitt. By the time is was all said and done, our meal took over 2 1/2 hours and we missed the first 30 minutes of our show.
    As others have said, I don't mind paying for small portions if the quality is there. Have done so many times in LV at places such as Robuchon and Milos, and would happily do again. However, the portions sizes here are comically-small for what you pay. There is ZERO value per dollar here and the speed of service is glacial. Unless you want to pay $200+ a person for a tiny bit of food spread out over 3 or so hours, I'd avoid this place.

    • @JoshRachael
      @JoshRachael  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wow thanks so much for sharing. Yea no clue why it is so slow, it’s 3 bites of pasta and when we were there we were one of the latest reservations, no reason to pretend they were so busy to not get to it.
      The further we are out from the experience the more annoyed we are by it.
      Thank you for sharing to help us see it’s not just us

    • @canoone1975
      @canoone1975 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When we were there, we were one of four occupied tables in the entire restaurant: Us, two other couples, and a table of 6 just behind us. Not busy AT ALL. Our waiter, at least before he disappeared for over an hour, was far more concerned with telling us (and the table behind us) about all the "big-time places on the East Coast" he had worked before moving to LV than he was in providing service.
      Like you guys, our feelings on the place have hardened further as time has passed. Arrogant and rude service, no concern for our time, and insane entree prices for tasting menu portions. Honestly, outside of Guy Savoy, Robuchon, Milos, and a few other French/Japanese places, this may be the most-expensive restaurant in LV. Certainly the most-expensive Italian with prices rivaling the top steak places. Places like Brezza and others give you better food & reasonable portions for a fraction of the price.
      No idea how this place stays open. @@JoshRachael

    I go to Vegas often and have learned the only way to save is if u have comps for food, hotel and free play. I went to Vegas Thursday since I had a free room and 2 free meals and $25 free play. Turned that free play to $150 which was nice. All in all, I lost about $400 and I was playing $25-75 pai gow hands. I also parked at treasure island so I saved on parking. There are ways to do a cheap Vegas trip, u just have to plan it right and use all ur comps. But u can still end up losing a lot in gambling so try to do other stuff even if it’s just walking around

      We definitely play the comp game, but there are times we want to try out restaurants that aren't at our main playing hotels. We ran our numbers and right now it seems our comps are barely outpacing our losses so it just feels like we are prepaying for our rooms lately.

Also, the branzino was way over priced as well. Branzino are small fish that aren't insanely expensive. To charge $100 for one branzino , that's also crazy. For instance at Carbone, we each order a starter and a pasta dish, that plus the complimentary bread/salami, Parmesean cheese off the wheel, and marinated cauliflower, we are both stuffed... too full for dessert actually. For that we spend $140 plus tax and tip (not including coctails).

    While Ivory Tower at the Palms Hotel and Casino offers an upscale dining experience, it falls short in several aspects. Firstly, the prices are exorbitant even for Las Vegas standards, making it inaccessible to many diners. Additionally, the portion sizes are disappointingly small for the price, leaving patrons feeling unsatisfied. Furthermore, the service can be inconsistent, with some staff members appearing disinterested or inattentive. The ambiance, while posh, can sometimes feel pretentious and overly formal, detracting from the overall dining experience. Overall, Ivory Tower fails to justify its high prices with subpar portions, inconsistent service, and an occasionally unwelcoming atmosphere.

    Prices are high in Las Vegas for several reasons and the first being that it is a tourist town. Labor, ingredients, overhead and profit. I can afford to eat out but choose to eat at home for the last 15 years unless traveling. Why? The food quality mainly in that at home, I can control what I put into my body. Restaurant food, even the nicer places use dangerous industrial seed oils to cook with. Butter that may not be butter or olive oil that may not be that. The portions are simply too large, too many refined carbs and other processed foods. I'll save my health and my budget to spend lavishly at the grocery store on the best ingredients that I can source here in Las Vegas which is not an easy task.

    Does it feel like a lot of places are just trying to push the prices higher and higher to see how much people are willing to endure? If you keep visiting these places and paying the exorbitant prices, they will keep doing it. What my wife and I have been doing is we sit at the bar. Bartenders don't care if you split a plate of food as long as you're drinking. This way we share a couple of dishes with a couple of cocktails and get out for under $150 most times.

      @@user-ix7se4lb3s I would argue more that they have been priced out of the lifestyle they are chasing, whether its because of social media, entertainment or whatever.
      Everyone thinks they need to live in a big city, have the big apt/house with a view, new cars, all the new gadgets, and have money to travel and dine like people online.
      They don't often realize that most people in this world give up some aspect of the "perfect social media lifestyle" - Us for instance have an 85 year old home that could use some work, in a simple neighborhood, in a town many don't aspire to live in. We have one reasonable car payment and both work full time jobs, and don't eat out 95% of the time. We don't use door dash or grub hub. We choose travel as our high priority spend.
      People would be better off knowing that most of the time you truly can't have it all and learn to love and accept what you can have rather than chase what you can't have.
