We are back and got our Credit Card Bills and Holy Crap is Icon of the Seas Expensive. This was easily our most expensive cruise we have ever done and we are here to share with you what it truly cost us.

Shocking how fast cruise fees can add up. How much is too much for a cruise for you???
We try to keep cruise fare around $1000-1200/person
My travel agent did get us a JS on a 14 nt Oasis transatlantic in the fall for $1200/person!!
$70 a night plus taxes and fees plus gratuities. Of course, we are retired and can travel any time of the year and generally avoid the summer months as we would rather escape the Arizona sun to the mountains of Utah. Prefer HAL, Celebrity and Princess but will consider most lines. Will NOT consider Costa or NCL.

We're going on our 3rd and this one cruise y'all took could've paid for all 3 on my end. All of which were 7 day itineraries.
I understand that and this is definitely the only one we had even considered booking at this price and especially the inaugural sailing. We typically get free or heavily discounted ones from the casino program but this one we felt compelled I guess. Unfortunately as you pointed out this will actually take the place of another this year probably.

Yikes us too now that we know the price of it. The one good thing is that you pay overtime instead of just one lump sum but that is also how the price gets away from you

Wife and I were on the third sailing. Cost more than most cruises, we had Large Balcony Room and drink package. Beautiful ship, newest ship. Well worth the cost. I'm sure all cruises are costing more going into the future. We recommend this ship for all cruisers!
Thanks for sharing! Yes we don’t regret it at all, it was an amazing experience and glad we were able to afford to do it. Luckily this is the only cruise in 10 since 2021 that we had to pay full price for and can understand those who think it’s too much

Thanks Dave and Sonia. The prices really add up over times and are so sneaky. We knew the initially charge was a lot but then as you pay for the other items over a years time you don't really notice it and the price can get out of control quickly. All that being said we had an amazing time and so glad we did it!

Just got back from the Virgin Valiant Lady cruise loved loved it all adult cruise stopped at 5 ports in the Caribbean amazing all food fine dining all inclusive probably will only do adult cruise Virgin staff was top notch thanks for sharing your experience
That sounds great. Back in 2020 we were booking our first cruise together and it was between Virgin Scarlett Lady, Carnival Mardi Gras and Allure of the Seas. We have been quite happy with going down the RC path but ready to try out some other companies next year
We have done Valiant lady 2x and I loved that you just don’t have worry about the added costs!

We just booked on Icon, Oceanview balcony for March 2025 . Just over 3K with taxes and port fees. Feel like we got a great deal. BTW, your videos are great! Very informative and entertaining.

Cruise ships age fast. By the time you get there it’s not going to be the same new feel. Rooms, carpets, furniture will go through so many people in the year and will not go through upgrades yet.
Let me be a bit critical. I have an Icon booking at the end of April (after Easter break) and it cost me $3,000 for two (ocean view). We also booked Hideaway for $35 each. We usually cruise out of Galveston and a similar cruise on RC is about half that price. Inaugural cruises are always more expensive and the popularity of Icon is growing and demand is high so RC will continue to charge more until demand slows. Many of your other expenses would have been incurred no matter what cruise you would take (airfare, cabs, drink package, dining package, excursions, etc.) Sailing on a popular ship and/or a popular route will always cost more. Your style of cruising makes for a very expensive 7 day vacation to which you are more then entitled to but if you can cut out some of the extras it is easy to sail on another ship for under $1,000 pp for a 7 day cruise.
We don’t disagree with you but this was our first inaugural sailing and we typically get offers from casinos but this was the first cruise in 10 where we paid all out of pocket and wanted to capture the true cost we paid. Not saying all cruising is too expensive but currently on Icon it is or was for our sailing.
If we felt cruising was too costly we wouldn’t do it but have 3 booked in the next year

I think the cruise industry has been talking to Disney on how to rapidly raise their prices and price out a lot of people...myself included. Thanks for sharing all of this information.
Hopefully not with the purpose of pricing people out but it is having that effect. The good news is that there are still good deals you can be had if you do some of the smaller and older ships, not even the very small and very old thankfully but hard with these big new ones

We booked March 2nd on Independence for Icon leaving November 9 at $4900 that price almost doubled in October, we absolutely can't wait to get on the ship. A side note you guys hands down do the absolute best cruise videos in my opinion
Wow thanks so much that means a lot to us. The freedom class which I think Independence is a part of is one of those decent value spots we think. It seems you can find some good values at ships that are smaller than Quantum Class

I think roll Cribb is catering to wealthier folks or at least people that have a lot of expendable cash. I would never be able to afford a cruise on icon because that is way too rich for my blood.
I heard the royal family suite cost $75,000 for seven day cruise, who has that kind of money??
Would you guys ever consider a Cruise in the yacht club on MSC cruises? I have been watching lots of video about the yacht club and it sounds very nice . I’ve heard the pricing for yacht club and apparently it is half price of a Royal Caribbean suite. I heard the Royal Caribbean suite is $14,000 for seven days and MSC yacht club is 7500 for seven days.
That is wild $75k is too much for pretty much anything let alone a week long vacation.
Royal definitely is targeting a higher tier with its newer ships but you can actually get decent deals if you target their mid tier ships.
Think about Independence or Navigator level of ships. That is what some friend of ours are doing and getting great prices on them.
Luckily this was the only RC cruise we have paid full cost for in 10 since 2021 since we usually sail with free or heavily discounted casino offers.
Also since you pay over time it is a price that sneaks up on you. Would we pay a lump sum of 10 Grand today for it no but we paid over almost a year and a half so we didn’t notice how fast the costs got away from us
Just gonna wait a year or two for it to be offered on the annual tier cruise list for the casino. Hopefully when star of the seas is out, icon will be included on that list
We have heard rumors that people have been able to book it with cruise offerings. We are also hopeful that our second time on will be a casino offer

You did get a good deal! Our cruise for October 19, 2024 will cost us $6400 for a guaranteed ocean view balcony. This does not include gratuities or anything else! The drink package was added on later for an addn'l $1300. We'll have to get the internet package since we have someone dog-sitting for us and we have to stay in touch; and we're going to have to fly from Nashville to Miami, so that will be extra too. Compare this to our 17 day Hawaii cruise on Holland America last month that was $9000 which included the drink package, air fare, internet, $500 onboard credit and two excursions - this is an expensive one week cruise! LOL! 🤣 But you know, I can't wait to experience this ship - you only live once!!
Totally agree. It costs a lot but it was worth it for us. Cruises can just be so sneaky with how the prices sneak up as you add different things over time. At least it’s not just one lump payment
Did you guys purchase straight from cruise or an agency? We did our booking though an agency. The price is crazy, but we didn't pay as much as you both. We're about to do that full video soon.
We book on our own. Have considered using a travel agent, but haven’t yet.

As much as you two like to gamble, same as us, we use carnival and princess, free rooms and alcohol can’t beat it

I was looking at Icon of the Seas for a seven day Caribbean cruise in the cheapest inside cabin. The cruise cost was HIGHER than a seven day YACHT cruise in a suite on Windstar Cruises. On one, I will get barely average food on an overcrowded ship. On the other, I will get superior service and menus from the James Beard Foundation. On one, I will get the same tired old cruise ports. On the other, I will get to more unique interesting ports. Guess which one I am selecting???

Only been on one cruise so far, on RCL which i won . Gratuaties were included, yest there were gratuity envelopes presented to us everywhere at cruise end. Guilt won the day & we popped $20/person for each envelope except one. Anything like this happen with your prepaid gratuity?
With prepaid gratuities you still get the envelopes the second to last night or last night of your cruise but it is not mandatory
That is a crazy price I think!!! A month ago I booked a 12 night sailing on odyssey for 4400. For just a week you paid more. I am good, lol. I will stick with my quantum and smaller ships please.
RC is just pushing the extremes on Icon it seems. We had an amazing time and loved it but will not be paying to go on it again any time soon.
Quantum is actually my favorite class - perfect sized, hopefully Icon and Utopia coming out this year will help push Quantum class prices even lower
If you know a new ship is coming out and you want to sail on it. BOOK AS SOON AS IT IS RELEASED!! They know people want shiny and new. This helps drive up prices for people who don't watch for new releases. ICON IS WAY TO EXPENSIVE!!!

Did you know that with the deluxe bev package Evian is included? $20 is still $20... Do you feel like you had enough time on the ship since you decided to be on excursions instead of staying on the ship?
We do know it’s included but we like having it in our room so we don’t have to go out and get a water whenever we need one.
We definitely could spend more time but also wanted to see St Thomas and St Kitts since we had not been to either

Morning peeps ! So my question is which one of you is selling a kidney to pay for this trip…Josh or Rachel ? Seriously though that was pricey . My 9 day European cruise with 2 nights in Barcelona 3 nights in Athens and 5 nights in London was $12 thousand in comparison. Royal is definitely making some good money with this ship . Hopefully on your next trip to Vegas you can afford more than a room at Circus 🤡 Circus 🤡 or Excalibur lol 😎😎😎
Haha thanks Anthony as always. This one was a definite outlier and we get it. It’s the big new shiny ship that everyone wants to try out. Luckily we have never paid full price on any of our other cruises, so we can make it up but did have to skip a 4th cruise this year cuz of the cost (first world problem for sure but still counts)
I know that you both love to try alot of drinks. But do you think if you didn't have the drink package that you would have drank that many drinks per day,?
Probably not. Not that it forces you do get one but when we don’t have the drink package we are constantly thinking about the cost. It’s a double edge sword sometimes

At CocoCay the meals were included but not in St Kitts and St Thomas
One other comment, paying extra for dining package and then still having to upgrade a couple times added $$ ? Over 100 cruises and we now have NO cruises booked. Normally would have several but honestly outraged at the ridiculously large ship ships and charges.
It is pretty crazy how many spots they are trying to sneak in extra costs isn’t it? We have friends who have been taking their kids on the mid sized ships like Mariner and Independence and it seems there still are some good deals to be had but not on these mega ships

OUCH! No surprise here. Booking it early is cheaper early. We experienced the same thing on Celebrity Edge. Cutting out the fishing trip would save you $500 and paying as you go for Specialty Dining could save some. Would you be better off using your free drinks as a Diamond Member and pay the extras above? You basically celebrated your honeymoon for $10k. Did you spend +/-$ on gambling? Cruising is no longer cheap. We are glad you had a great time. 🎉
You can definitely find cost cutting spots, we obviously went a bit overboard with our extras. We debated for a long time about doing the drink package or not since this was our first cruise as diamond, but in the end we were too excited by the number of new and old bars that we felt we really wanted the drink package. We did not gamble as much - this one had zero discounts from gambling and we had both basically reached prime for next year so come April we will be looking to book our free Prime cruise - even thought about seeing if we can get a room on Icon again haha.
My key takeaway: when you have kids, your disposable income goes down. significantly.
Understandably so! We won’t be having children, but may add a new dog 🐶 to our family!
You could have flown to Rome, spent a month there traveling around Italy eating amazing food and seeing amazing culture and history instead of seven days on a crowded shopping mall at sea! And if not Italy, pick some other country. 😂

I just got back from this ship and spent about the same amount of money. It’s a very nice ship, but I felt like I was trapped in a giant overcrowded Chucky Cheese for 7 days. For me, it was a huge waste of money.

How much weight did you gain with all this eating and drinking extra? I don’t drink alcohol, and don’t spend one penny on drinks or any non-complementary food when I’m on a cruise.
We tend to gain 10-12 pounds on trips like this. We can generally take off most of that in less than a week after we return home to dieting and exercise.

Drinks we just buy a few when needed.. we booked on opening night as will and go in dec on this ship. But I feel all the add one doesn't seem worth it. You could of just booked 2 cruises for what you spent on Extra's.
It's your money but $1300 for drinks $700 for food when you guys were off the ship buy drinks and food on top.
To each their own. We cruise 2 times a yr and spend less with a family of 4 and have a awesome time.

I think it all depends one what you are going for. We did 4 cruises last year and didn't do the dining package on any of them and only did the drink package on a 3 day cruise with friends and didn't on our 3 7 day ones. There are values to be had for sure it all depends on what you are going for on each cruise, and we do each differently.
It is what makes the "add-ons" not all bad since as you point out not everyone needs the upcharge restaurants or all you can drink cruise options. Every cruise can be different for each person based on their needs or wants
