Using The Milwaukee Hook Blades on Roofing Shingles

- If you have a roofing project, you will want to consider buying hook blades. I decided to purchase the Milwaukee 48-22-1932 Hook Blades. I put them to the test on a small project of 5@ 3-in-1Owens Corning Classic Shingles. The hook blade did a great job trimming the shingles about 3/8" past the drip edge.
I discovered these blades several years ago while talking to a garage builder. He said he always uses these when trimming shingles. I decided to give them a try and have used them ever since. If you find this video useful and informative, please give it a THUMBS UP and Subscribe! Thanks for checking out my video! Have a great day.

I never knew what those blades were for. Thank you.
They also come in handy for cutting other things, like carpet.

Thanks, I'm working on doing less talking and more action, lol!
Makes my knuckles hurt just watching.
Yikes, I have some level 5 cut protection gloves, but it's hard to say how they hold up to something like this.
@@MarkThomasBuilder not me. I just use the nitrile coated gloves for dexterity. They don't hold up too well to the demands of roofing though.
I’m thankful for Oscillating tools as they are much faster
Yes, I have some hook blades for my oscillating tools and they're very effective on the job.
Excellent video. Hook blade heard of it. Works nice for shingle trimming and I assume for cutting shingles.
Yes, several years ago I was talking with a work crew using those and I definitely went out and bought some.
@@MarkThomasBuilder Bought the stanley hook blades they wont fit in my milwaukee knife.
Had to use Quickdraw utility knife that has a slider on top.
I was wondering why you didnt use your milwaukee knife. I remember the review you did on the milwaukee.
appreciate you man! :)
Thanks!
YOu could have done the whole video in 30 seconds bud!
Did you run a starter course up that side? It helps with wind and water, also recommend ice/water shield.
Good idea. I don't believe my original roof had a starter course on the side.
@@MarkThomasBuilder it isn't always used in the trade but ties all those side pieces well
How do you Americans say Ruff (like what a dog says?) 🤔😃
Haha, I never noticed that others say it different.
I'm a Michigander, but having been raised with a Canadian mother, I say roof the European way.
How do yall like hook blades? I was first introduced to them in roof work but I quickly learned they’re amazing for so much more! When opening boxes, clamshell packaging, cutting zip ties, and other small tasks they’re sooooo handy. They offer a lot more control for small tasks like I’ve mentioned. It’s hard to explain, but you can feel an enormous difference in control and safety, and I’m a lot more confident with them. Having a hard time deciding what to keep in my razor knife 😭
I've recently started keeping a hawkbill knife handy for shop use. It's a little similar to a hook blade, which is a nice design for all those things you mentioned.
@@MarkThomasBuilder Thanks for sharing Mark! I love you’re Milwaukee reviews btw. Especially the lawn mower in the snow lol
Awesome, glad to hear it! I can't wait for spring to get here so I can try it out on some green grass.
I find them awesome to break down boxes too.
Never liked hookblades, just cut the shingle on the backside with a regular blade then bend and it will break off
Great advice. The hook blades always make me a little nervous, that's why I'm extra careful when using them.
Find a different project you dont get it!
Why do you call a roof a ruf it souds like a dog barking
u buy the best blades at the cheapest price at ur local roofing depo. Ask the guys in the trade , not the orange belts at the homeless desk spot
I'm sour at Milwaukee right now because 2 brand new 26' tape measures did not stand up 2 months of construction . Garbage
So I'm disappointed . Now, Let's see how u feel about these hook blades
You can return broken tapes at Home Depot and get new ones, we did. No charge
Its a roof not a ruf i dont see any dogs barking
Haha, possibly a Michigan accent.
But dogs also say “roof” that’s literally what my dog sounds like 😂

Jeezus man, hurry up and get on with it.
Good info, thanks for the suggestion.
Haha, I'll keep that in mind next time I make a video. Glad to hear this was helpful.
