    Great respect for Mr. Kumazawa and Yamaha 🇯🇵 It’s quite possible that Yamaha simply is the worlds most popular brand in HiFi as well as music instruments and gears. Thanks Gene👍

    I have one of the speaker greats, Infinity IRS, and have had many amps I just haven’t been happy with. European amps, American amps, famous designers, famous name brands. The Krells, Pass Labs and Mark Levinsons of the world. I have done a ton of upgrades from ladder dacs, to power isolation and conditioning tweaks to the point that there is not much more that I can do. I found an M-5000 deal, and I have to tell you, this thing beats out A-LOT of ultra high end amps. I’m talking stuff like Constellation Hercules etc.
    The sound stage blackness is very, very noticeable even when there is not much more to improve on a high end system. Very unusually quiet amp. I hate to sound like a typical audiophile broken record, but I rediscovered all my music again with this deep “black” background noise floor. Yes, other amps perform great, as does this amp, but it’s how quiet it is that really got me shocked.
    One of the reasons I looked into this amp was that I know about Yamaha being really good, but spectacularly underrated by the audiophile community, and secondly, the design philosophy. The pull-pull design is very unusual - and very special. Only 4 amps that I know use this. 2 of the 4 were designed by the late Bascom King, and the other 2 by Yamaha. There is an interview of Bascom where he talks about why pull-pull is superior to any other mosfet configuration. This is one the reason the M-5000 performs the way it does, and add to that the floating circuitry, plus all copper frame that acts as a ground reference, all adds up to why it is staggeringly more quiet than any other high end amp. The first amp to use this was the Yamaha B2, from which Bascom discovered Yamaha’s secret sauce.
    When I found out the M-5000 unarchived this very special design, I was curious to see what they could do with modern parts. I’m currently running BHK300 monoblocks for the top end to incorporate tube influence, and now the M-5000 uses the same design philosophy of pull-pull but is solid state all the way through for bottom end muscle. A combo made in heaven, and same design philosophy!! Could not be happier. Well done Yamaha!!

    I'm one of those 80's Navy guys who bought Yamaha while in Japan. And I am actually listening to my A1000 Integrated amp right now. The only things I have done to the amp over the years is clean the pots and the relay. Sounds warm and full range with a streaming DAC as the front end.

    Being an owner of yamaha a-s3200 and cd-s3000 I can confirm , these units sound like end game, BUT for "normal" sensitivity speakers, if you want to drive Magnepan speakers, you need more current that what the a-s3200 offers, I have my eyes on the M-5000 model ;)

    A very experienced audio engineer told me that a fully differential design in audio is a solution for a problem that has not been an issue in (domestic) audio since the sixties. These amps don't measure better than other state-of-the-art equipment...
    I could not argue with that. I own a Yamaha A-S1100 and love it.

    • @Audioholics
      @Audioholics  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Differential circuits are always a superior circuit to its single ended equivalent. The audibility difference is another story with many factors. That said these Yamaha's measure among the best in linear amp design.

    Thanks a lot for doing this, I think the M-5000 may be serious contender to the coolest audio product ever made, the design, the love going into the design, quality of components, it is even more beautiful inside than outside, WOW .... everything 😍🤩🥰😎❤
    I really believe that wide bandwidth is vert advantageous, a wide bandwidth makes diffrerences into what we can hear within the audible passband!!!!
    I want them as monoblocks 😍
    The C-5000 is wow too 😍

    The big question is when will we see a CD-S5000 or maybe a UD-S5000? That would round out the whole series. If they did a separate phono like the HX-10000, that would be killer.

    This is indicative of the quality of construction that is missing in audio components these days. Too few companies are willing to go to such extremes even though they are charging more for their gear than this. True effort like this is worth a listen and a possible purchase. Would like to see the review with the specs like your other videos hopefully later? These are worthy of that! How about it Gene?

    I love this look. I might be biased since the first proper HiFi system I was gifted from my uncle was an old Yamaha stereo receiver in the same silver color from the 80's along with a pair of Jamo Power 250R (If my memory is correct) speakers. And I just think thought that combo was the coolest thing in the whole world and played loud with good sound (especially as a young teenager). I really wish I still had them so they could be on display in my basement. 🙂

    Currently, I have three Yamaha Pro-Audio Amplifiers powering my home theater and have had one of the first Yamaha Dolby Prologic receivers back in the day. I love Yamaha and they will always be a brand in my rack. The P-Series of Pro-Audio, specifically the P3500S is what's driving my system coupled with Outlaw's 976 Pre-Pro is a perfect match. This line of amps ran for ten years and were very popular within its community. Extremely good sound and very good quality.

      No AV receiver can compete with the quality of these separates. The M-5000 for example operates like an ideal voltage source doubling down with halving load impedance all the way down to 2 ohms. The noise/distortion is extremely low as well. Superb electronics. In our listening demo, this rig sounded great!

  • @SwirlingDragonMist
    @SwirlingDragonMist ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Really nice seeing the trim options on the headphone jack, the output controls, and all those impedance options on the phono.
    This is what I love about this type of gear, you have all the essential options right there at your fingertips on the front of the receiver.
    Not buried in some menu, or omitted for the purpose of cost-savings but disguised as minimalism.
    Easy access to a host of quality features, on a stylish gleaming silver faceplate. A great recipe!

      Nope, not really. If you look at what's gone into them in more detail and focus on those fine intricacies of every part that comprises those speakers, not really, they're actually underpriced compared to other maker's speakers that aren't even there in terms of build and quality yet cost sometimes 2-3 times more.

      Actually NO. You know these speakers have lower distortion levels than the Focal Utopia floor stander that is worth 120.000 USD a pair right now????
      So, for 1/6th of the price you get actually a better speaker at 108dB in the Yamaha. Honestly, if you have not listened to those speakers, do not speak.
      Those NS-5000 are ridiculous. Hard to decide between NS-5000 and JBL M2, really hard. Yamaha's are cheaper, so!
      The only reason why I do not have them is that I already have something close to, and I do not need to play that loud to benefit from the low distortion at high SPL.
