You nailed it. I just loved exploring all the areas in the Sierra games and typing "Look at..." at EVERYTHING on every screen just to see what glib text box was going to pop up
He is probably the ONLY reviewer who really gets the magic of Sierra games from this era. There was nothing like them before, and there has just been nothing like them since. Yes there were other graphic adventure games, but they just did not have the same magic.
Space Quest III is my favorite adventure game! I can't believe there's a fan made remake (even if it's just proof of concept)! Thanks for making my Friday! :D
That Metroid 2 remake was finished. It's really good. Part of the problem is that Nintendo came out with their own remake on 3DS soon after, so they didn't want that around.
I haven't been subscribed all that long, but congratulations on a fantastic six years, and this does look like a really fun remake. Here's to many more awesome videos and quests through space!
been missing the friday debuts cuz of work but need to catch up, I don't know if SQ3 was you're first video but it was the 1st on your channel I saw over 5 years ago and made me an instant fan, so glad to see your subs increasing significantly like they should be. keep up the awesome content, bt of course only after your new family's priorities, take care man
All the fan games are good apart from Roger Wilco and the Voyage Home the guy who made it used a lot of assets from the other games far too many and it was kind of a personal tribute to his dad who had passed away and introduced him to the Space Quest games when he was a kid
I think it’s my favorite of the series, although I started with the first one over 30 years ago. But having Gary Owens narrate the later ones was amazing. I loved all the Sierra games back then, and played them way too much on my Tandy.
It's a shame this never was finished. I would've loved to check it out. I'm a huge fan of these fan remakes/remasters and too often they get shot down before people can experience them.
Congratulations on the anniversary! I'm so happy I found this channel because the content here is just super chill and enjoyable - the appeal for everything here at Friday Night Arcade is very much in line with how Clint of LGR does things, and man, there should be way more TH-cam channels that have that vibe imo. Thanks for pumping out great content consistently dude, and I hope you're around for a long time :D I also can't wait for future Space Quest videos. I know you've blown through the actual series, but I can't wait to hear what you think of fan games, or even just thoughts on that cancelled PS2/Xbox 3D Platformer reboot that Sierra was toying around with. Seems like it would've been a fine enough game in its own right, but probably a bad Space Quest game :/ Still, it would be fun to hear your thoughts on it, I'm sure. I don't even play inventory-based point-and-click adventure games, but I enjoy listening to people like you talk about them! Activision owns the company now (they should be called Activision-Sierra, but the Blizzard name was deemed more valuable so Activision-Blizzard is the name they went with. They use the Sierra name as a brand/banner to publish indie titles occasionally now, though - White Night, Shiftlings, and Velocity 2X for instance. I'm sure other people have pointed that out, _but_ I want to point out this specifically; they generally seem pretty cool with people toying with these old IP. Even when they wanted to do something with 'em, like that King's Quest Episodic series from a few years back, they didn't flat out shut down fan games. Phoenix Online was working on that King's Quest fangame, "Every Quest has a Silver Lining," and all they did was tell them to remove the King's Quest name and they called it simply, "The Silver Lining, inspired by King's Quest" or whatever.
Thank you so much for the kind words and for sharing, Barry. I'll have to look into those indy games you mentioned. White Night looks really interesting. At some point I do plan to revisit the fan SQ games. I had not heard of that Phoenix Online game -- will have to check that out. Thanks for the suggestion!
Great job on the six years! I enjoy your channel because you have genuine joy in the gaming experiences! I had several Sierra games on my old IBM-PC, and I couldn’t get enough of the text-based adventures. I wish Activision would get Disney’s permission to remake The Black Cauldron. Aaron, are you familiar with the two DOS games Castle and Rogue? I have to say those two were my favorite from childhood. I loved to examine everything to make certain that I didn’t miss a thing!
Thank you for the kind words! - I feel like I've heard of Castle and Rogue but don't think I ever played them. Will have to find them for an episode - thanks for the suggestions!
I think the first 6 or so games I bought after I got my first PC in 1990 were all Sierra games, and I'm about 99% sure my first one was SQ3 as well. I remember being blown away by the animation of him climbing out of the giant robot head in the first area. That and Maniac Mansion on my C64 are some of my favorite early computer memories.
Congratulations 🍾🎉🎊 on 6 years! Your show is fantastic! Please keep creating new content! It is well worth the hard work and effort that you continually put into it!
I remember being 14 back in the 90s and i got this old IBM XT machine with EGA screen and with it came a big box of black floppies and on some of them was Space Quest III which i played the whole summer. Such an awesome game!!!
Hey thanks for the kind words! As for the poster, it was pretty easy. There are some super high-res photos of all of the games' covers over at the Two Guys' blog. LINK: guysfromandromeda.com/fan-made-space-quest-box-poster-art/ I pulled the image file off of there and then ordered it as a 16x20 print off of Shutterfly. It turned out pretty good. It was like $30 for the print and then I just bought a super cheap poster frame for it from Wal-Mart. Enjoy!
My first adventure game was Gold Rush also from Sierra. We didn't have a computer so I played it at my Grandfather's house with my aunt. She also had Dagger of Amon Ra and I was hooked immediately on adventure games. I'm still not a huge fan of parsers, but if the story is good I'm willing to abide. EDIT: I take it back the first adventure game I ever played was Maniac Mansion, but it was on the NES so I don't think it counts.
Wow 6 years! Great video to celebrate that! Have you played the 2015 King's Quest game? If not you should really check it out and it'd be nice to see your take on it
The funny thing is that Sierra has let others remake kings quest and quest for glory 2 and release them for free. KQ even has Graham's original voice to do the voice over.
I love this channel more than life itself, but I'd be good never having to see another Space Quest upload again. There's been close to ten since the channel started. I know its a favorite of the channel but there are so many other topics and the content on those is always amazing.
So you're saying I should cancel my next upcoming six episodes re-re-revisiting Space Quest, Space Quest fan games, Space Quest Theory (Was Roger Wilco DEAD the whole time?!!!!) and The Making of Space Quest lol?! j/k... thanks for the feedback, doublecut. I actually am working on an "outer space themed games" video here shortly and I promise Space Quest will only get a very brief mention, definitely not the focus of the video... it will give me a chance to spend some time on some other games such as Starflight or Space Shuttle on Atari 2600.
Vivendi games merged with Activision in 2008 and became Activision Blizzard. In 2014, Activision announced they were reviving the Sierra name and rerelease some titles........
What a fun episode. Thanks Aaron. I love this. The passion for these kind of games that you show make these episodes very special. I hope you and the family are staying healthy and safe. Have a great weekend good sir.
I played all of the quest games growing up(King's first, then Space, For Glory and Police). So have you seen the King's Quest remake on steam? They are not as great as the original but fun to seen the new KQ.
The space quest brand isn't exactly in high demand so if this were made into a full game as long as it wasn't sold I don't think they would take legal action. If anything they might just give a cease and desist order. Dr.Mario64 got a cease and desist but AM2R lives on through some other people. Nintendo seems to only care about fan projects if they're actively promoting/working on their own version of said game.
Unfortunately it was never finished. The company is "gone" but Sierra was bought out by Vivendi and later by Activision so they technically own all of the assets. Although they may not even realize Space Quest is in their library, but technically they could enforce a takedown and would be legally entitled to do so. It's a bummer though because that means Roger Wilco is stuck in legal limbo for the foreseeable future.
Good callout to the Metroid fangame that got shut down. Compare companies that handle fan work well - Capcom, which creates rules that as long as you don’t say your game is official, they’ll let you do it, and they occasionally release their own games which may or may not take inspiration from fangames.. to Nintendo and Paramount, which will sue anybody who creates much of anything with their IP on it. I like your approach- if it’s a good prospect, just hire the guy to finish it, and sell it for boucoup bucks.

Space Quest III is my favorite adventure game! I can't believe there's a fan made remake (even if it's just proof of concept)! Thanks for making my Friday! :D
Also one of my favorite and "first" games that got me into the Sierra series. Congrats on the 6 year anniversary.
Happy 6th Anniversary FNA, and by the way, all the rights to SIerra properties now belong to Activision nowadays.
That Metroid 2 remake was finished. It's really good. Part of the problem is that Nintendo came out with their own remake on 3DS soon after, so they didn't want that around.

Happy 6th birthday! What TH-camrs inspired you to make videos yourself?
At first I was reluctant to watch your content .. but when I did I stuck around.. great content bro..
Thanks for the support, Ricardo.
I had those same white-enveloped floppies back in the day. How I miss them. Can’t beat something not connected to the machine of today.
Happy 6th Anniversary, FNA! Cheers!
Do you think you’ll ever take a look at the fan made games: SQ The Lost Chapter, Vohaul Strikes Back, Roger Wilco and the Voyage Home, etc.?
Yes - not sure if I'll do an individual video for each or a "fan games" episode where I look at all of them at once.
@@FridayNightArcade I think you should split them up. Being such a big fan you would probably have a lot to say about each one.
