Fleming does a really good job. Rich and vibrante sound. But Tomowa has greater expression, top notes and much fuller volume on the high notes. And her voice is extremly beautiful ❤️
HVK was a huge fan of Anna T-Sintow. This is a wonderful aria from a wonderful opera. No-one sings it better but Annemarie Kremer does a fine job also..... I've always thought if Korngold had been born 30-40 years before he'd be rated one of the greatest ever composers. Let's rejoice and enjoy what he did write.
WOW! Tomowa-Sintow is in fantastic form. Extremely moving! I love this aria. Korngold was a genius. Other permormances I have enjoyed are by Fleming, Lehmann, and Annemarie Kremer - all on youtube. This aria is pure passion, and I resonate completely with Martin Geeson's perfect commentary, below.
I am so grateful that we a TH-cam that brings us such music: I probably would not have Fleming’s sing this masterpiece, nor this wonderful rendition! And, I would not have heard the Russian basso Boris Shtokolov, whose singing almost always brings me to tears!
Love has rarely been so perfectly expressed in sound as here. It is many years since I experienced the extreme of attachment to another person. This ecstatic music makes me long to recapture, before I die, the utter absorption in the beauty of another.
Would rather say different. Fleming does an amazing job, I think that her passion is unparalleled and she does some brilliant phrasing. I do think that Anna wins due to her incredible topnotes and that her voice isn't as lush and creamy as Fleming's is. The vibrato Anna pulls of when hitting the highest note and how she increases the volume in it with a soaring crescendo, that's insane and magical. So she's slightly better, but surely Fleming should be credited for her marvellous performance of this aria, because a life full of singing Strauss gives her a completely unique vocal approach to her performance.
If the world can be so dismissive, or non-appreciative of this masterpiece by Korngold, why should I fret if so few have heard or purchased my music?!

I had the great chance to hear Tomowa-Sintow in "Die Frau ohne Schatten". A huge voice with an incredible top D.

Tomowa - unattainable ideal! Absolutely the very best.

I love this... bought the CD when it came out the harmony composition and expression..
This is stunning! Woooow, I'm just speechless!!
I am in LOOOVE with this!
What a class act! Also a good quality recording (which is what some others of this aria on TH-cam are not)
Heard this earlier by Renee Fleming. It was nicely done. This performance has much more passion in it. Really NICE!
Simply stunning. The best
superior to the Fleming version in my opinion
Bravissima. Surely better than Fleming
