Banjo-Tooie Any% Speedrun in

This is the Banjo-Tooie Any% world record!
Achieved on July 9th, 2024 using an original NTSC-J game and N64. Upscaled using Retrotink 2x Pro and recorded with Avermedia Live Gamer Mini and OBS.
Why I'm playing the Japanese version:
The NTSC-J version of Banjo-Tooie saves about 9 seconds in Any% over the NTSC-U and PAL versions due to faster text boxes.

Congrats on the world record! I just discovered the other day that the Jinjo’s locations are randomized! How does that affect the speedrun? Does the RNG help or hurt your chances winning the any percent run? With 100 percent runs people don’t worry about that because you collect them all anyways.

Anyone more educated on this games speedrunning please answer this. Does jumping while talon trotting actually make it faster than regularly talon trotting?

In certain cases yes, however the release of tooie brought the addition of feathery flapping when talon trotting. More or less meaning you can’t spam jump without flapping so you have to time the jumps. This isn’t a major issue and jumping while talon trotting definitely still has its perks.

In general, for both Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, you want to initiate your movement using a jump in Talon trot. The speed of walking vs jumping on flat ground is the same, but jumping immediately accelerates you to full speed.
The kicker is, at the end of the Talon trot jump slide, there is a slowdown. So to avoid that you just keep jumping after you start.
It gets a little more complicated when the ground is not flat. If you initiate your jump from a downhill or flat ground, your speed is actually faster than if the slope is uphill. So typically you want to maximize your jumps from downhill slopes and make them as small as possible if the slope is uphill
