  • Who wants to take an underwater train ride to China?! China is planning to build a high-speed rail connecting China and the continental United States that will tunnel under the 125 mile stretch of ocean beneath the Bering Strait. And that's just one of three other wacky ambitious plans they have that completely disregard the reality of the natural environment!

      Vertiz131 Sorry for the following wall of text, but...
      You are horribly represented in the world due to your actions. Leaving stuff like FOX News, which is internationally known for being just a step away from North Korean news when it comes to lies, and other shit like that aside and just focussing on political issues:
      - Victoria Nuland and her leaked phonecall, her press conference in front of investors that have interests in Ukraine and the fact, that Academi (formerly known as "Blackwater") is involved there aswell. (So yeah... You are atleast partially to blame for that shit in Ukraine.)
      - Your NSA scandal in general, which also revealed though that the US engaged in economic warfare against its so-called allies.
      - The fact that the US government is blackmailing the governments of its "allies".
      - Your heavily interventionist politics in the west of Asia. (This also includes statements like the one from Richard Perle, who said that the Iraq war will kill the "fantasy" that the UN is the foundation of a new, more peaceful world order. [So basically he is saying "We don't give a shit about the UN and we won't let it dictate us whether or not we are allowed to attack a country."])
      - Your neo-liberal agenda, that is also responsible for a lot of your interventionist actions, as you allowed your businesses to acquire too much power. Example Goldman Sachs: They helped the corrupt Greece politicians to cook the books, so that they could enter the Eurozone and they used a ponzi scheme, speculated and basically caused the economic crisis, just to then turn around and ask for financial support from several governments, in order to not go bankrupt, but they didn't accept any kind of regulations put on them, so they can continue the same way they've always done.
      - Your military-industrial-complex, which is way too powerful, which also includes the NRA and the fact that they give out guns to every idiot on the street.
      I could go on about things like privatized prisons and other ridiculously stupid ideas, but I think this should already showcase, why the US isn't really the most loved country anymore.
      Your politicians aren't representing the people anymore, but only big corporations.
      In Europe we have a similar issue, especially since the US started influencing us to also move towards a more neo-liberal agenda, but it's nowhere nearly as bad as in the US.
      The 5 pillars of power in a neo-liberal country:
      - Legislature
      - Judicial
      - Executive
      - Press (manipulation of the people)
      - Lobbyism (manipulation of the politicians)
      As the politicians are the ones responsible for the first three powers, the real two powers in a country like the US are the press and lobbyism, that more often than not work hand in hand.
      I might sound anti-American in quite some posts I've done in the past and will continue to do... I'm not really anti-American though... It just bothers me to see so much potential of your country getting wasted and that you basically are living in a plutocracy. (As I said... We have a similar problem here in Europe, but it's not even remotely as bad.)

    I love trains, but even _I_ would not ride a train from U.S. to China. Why? Because there are VOLCANOES AND EARTHQUAKES in the pacific ocean! I mean most of the Alaskan islands are active volcanoes. Something tells me that tunneling under an active volcano is not a good idea.
    Also, I think China forgot about the tectonic plates. The tunnel would likely be crushed between the Pacific Plate and the North American plate, then filled with lava, essentially creating a manmade lava tube, which both accelerates the lava substantially and raises the temperature, likely killing everyone in the tunnel in a horrible fiery death.
    Also, THE RING OF FIRE? WHERE ALL OF THE WORLD'S MOST VIOLENT VOLCANOES LIVE?!
    Volcanoes like:
    Krakatau/Krakatoa
    Mt. Saint Helens
    etc.
    No, I'm not getting on this train.

    • @SaneAsylum
      @SaneAsylum 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      So Japan and China should just give up the high speed rail they already have because of the Ring of Fire? Alaska is a big place and believe it or not most places in Alaska have very little risk from either consideration.

    Dude, you are completely wrong on high speed rail. You really have no idea what you are talking about. I lived in China for over four years. I rode the high speed rail frequently. Believe me, it is fucking amazing! Nothing compares to taking high speed rail for all those intercity trips that Americans are forced to make by car. I hate driving. I hate driving in the city and I especially hate driving in traffic from one city to another. High speed rail is not the best way to get from NYC to LA, but for regions like Bos-Wash, and for intercity travel of distances up to 1000 miles, high speed rail is the way to go. It gets even better on distances ranging from 50 to 500 miles. These distances are too short to fly and too tiresome to drive. For me, living in Chicago without a car, the rest of the Midwest is totally inaccessible. Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Detroit, Cleveland? I have never been to any of these cities. Why? Because they are either not worth spending so much money on a plane ticket, not worth spending miserable hours on an uncomfortable dirty Greyhound with runaways and ex-cons, and not worth spending hours in traffic even in a rented car. If there were a high speed rail train connecting Chicago to any of these cities, I would be happy to take a trip to see them.

    • @peterutman9754
      @peterutman9754 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      roygbiv330 Yes, its true. I have not left Chicago or been to any of the other major cities nearby in the year I have lived here because I don't own a car and I don't want to spend so much money to fly such short distances. The bus is slow and uncomfortable. The train is slow and expensive. Flying is expensive and unnecessary for short distances. Driving a car is stressful and tiresome. I really don't understand why Americans don't appreciate the benefits of high speed rail.

      ***** please talk something about rest of the "Just keep..." to politicians in ur state. no one can claim the best thing is something blah,blah,blah without reason unless he is stupid. i know about 1 decades ago they discussed about the bullet train installation in ca but it faded away becuz the population density in ca is too small. the recent increase of the train infrastructure in china causes the united states to arise the issue again becuz the united states notices the train transportation in china is successful and it requires very little amout of gas and it becomes more important after the fukushima nuclear plant deterioration here in my country.

    I'm fifty years old, and bruce lee was one of my favorite heroes growing up, and will always remain so. In learning more about him, i learned more about the rich and ancient chinese culture which had produced and shaped him, and i fell in love with it.
    But that culture is entirely gone from china today. Mao systematically murdered the 'old' ways in order to implement his communist ideal. We obsess about what Hitler did to jews, but we overlook the fact that Mao (may piss be upon him..) exterminated the entire ancient history and culture of an entire massive nation of people in less than a generation and replaced it with a superficial, hive-like state religion.. and we LET him..
    ALL WE HAD TO DO IS STAND UP TO THEM, to just say, 'no, not going to give it up without a fight' and maybe this monstrous thing could have been stopped, maybe Tibet could have been spared some of this nightmare..

    Lol, I actually created something like this in my sci-fi story called the intercontinental Logistics System, but its built throughout the second half of the 21st century. Its basically a massive two kilometer long Maglev Vac-train/hyperloop train that could travel up to 8,000 kilometers per hour stretching from Beijing to Seattle. It gradually expanded to Moscow, Paris, Nairobi, Singapore and even Rio de Janeiro. It substantially decreased the need for ocean freighters and cut down on pollution. But, it's sci-fi so the laughable cost such a system would require is more tossed to the side lol.

  • @rexsham

    The train that crashed is not a High Speed Railway. In China, only trains that are faster than 250km/h are categorized as High Speed Railway.
    The trains that crashed are CRH1 and CRH2, which can only run at 200km/h, and they crashed at a relative speed of ~80km/h.
    "High Speed" is not the cause of the accident but a big design flaw in signaling system, irresponsible human operators and illegal operations in the tendering and corruption are the major causes.
    The host made a fundamental mistake in mixing up the terms CRH and High Speed Rail.
    The name of all the modern trains in China are called CRHX (where X as the model number)
    It does not mean that all CRH are using the same system, there are diesel powered trains called CRH built recently.
    The Chinese High Speed Railway (that runs faster than 250km/h) never had serious accidents.
    So if you compare the fatalities caused by the High Speed Railway in China with that of all the Boeing and Airbus planes, the Chinese High Speed Rail is infinity times safer.
    Building fast trains is the only way to improve the efficiency in long distance travelling in China, if you have been to Beijing and Shanghai, you will be pissed by the serious plane delays.
    Riding High Speed Rail from Shanghai to Beijing is faster than by plane since you don't need to check-in early and wait for the delayed plane and wait for your checked baggage.
    Train stations are always located in the prime areas of the city while airports are freaking far away just like the Pudong airport in Shanghai, where they need to build the fastest commercially operating train in the world (Maglev) to connect the airport to the city.

China is a capitalist state now with more government control than western countries and everyone in China knows it. And I can also tell you most of young generations in China hate Mao. In your opinion we are just stupid people who do not know what capitalism is. This is because you do not know China and you are influenced by the fake news from west media just like this video. • @frankshang8718
      @frankshang8718 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure engineers will be able to bypass that... Hence the route they have chosen first of all so as to minimise the distance travelled by water to as low as possible instead of going straight across the Pacific.

    • @MrThewildrider
      @MrThewildrider 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Still have to deal with shifting plates

    • @frankshang8718
      @frankshang8718 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plates move VERY VERY slowly, it is a thing that all engineers deal with whether they are working on land or at sea. The Eurasian plate is only moving at 2cm a year and no earthquakes are expected in that area. The tunnel is only 200km long underwater and is enclosed in the North American plate. The rail line will of course bypass the plate boundary in Russia, this project is possible, it's just hard and will take years of planning to be made possible.

    • @ubentu
      @ubentu 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rail is incredibly efficient. We are ADDICTED to plane travel. Train travel could be just as good and cheaper.
      it also has 2 islands to make stops at and for air pipes inbetween. One could lay a section of the pipe that could adjust with the changing times, but airports require quite a bit of plant life abatement in the 100 year scale you're speaking of.

    • @imiritu
