Max Graetz is President of the company Erich & Gretz in Berlin, Germany, which develops and designs Petromax lamps.
Initially, Max Graetz wanted to create a paraffin-fueled lighting device for his company's new product. Furthermore, Graetz discovered a process for making gas out of paraffin, has a very high heat energy and can make a very hot blue flame.
Graetz then designed a pressurized lamp, which worked with paraffin vapor. Briefly, how the pressurized lamp works is as follows
A ceramic net (made of a mixture of metal oxides very similar to clay content - ​​now known as lamp t-shirt) was heated with spirit. Then the paraffin is pressed with a hand pump in a closed tank (which is located under the ceramic nets) so that it can flow through the pipe leading to the nets.
The paraffin will evaporate (because the position of the pipe is very close to the nets burned by the spirit) and become fuel for ceramic nets.
thus producing a bright light. As long as the paraffin gas supply from the tank continues to flow, the ceramic nets or lamp shirts will continue to glow to produce light.
When the pressure runs out, there is a hand pump which is useful for adding paraffin vapor pressure to the lamp shirt.
On November 5, 1920, the name Petromax was registered as a trademark. Since then, Petromax lamps have been mass-produced in various specifications and sizes.
Not only in Germany, Petromax has become a very popular lamp in various parts of the world, including Indonesia.
This popularity makes the name Petromax a generic name for lamps with paraffin fuel. The design and workings of Petromax lamps are now widely adapted by various parties to make lighting products with various brands.
That was the beginning of the petromak lamp was created.
And very popular at the time.
