This method worked for me 100%. Just pay attention to where your main hardrive is located. In my case it was in Partition E in his computer it is located in partition D. So it might be different for you.

For those having trouble opening the cmd window (i had to type the password, but obviously didn't have it), first you have to boot the files (the Windows Media stuff) from your USB, then you can proceed as in the video.

Excellent instructions only had an issue with boot settings requiring a file path in UEFI settings but switched to legacy and worked like a charm. Saved me money & time!

For anyone on a Hp pavillion...
You have to restart the device by doing an advanced restart in the settings. You have to also log into an account to do this advanced startup. After that if it shows a white and blue screen with "HPEI setting" just click exit and it should take you to the windows installation screen. After this just follow the steps in the video
I forgot to mention that if your keyboard on the laptop isn't working in cmd, plug in an external keyboard and it should let you type the commands

Bro, you are the best..I watched 5 freaking tutorials and nobody said how to find the right partition where is the freaking windows .For example for me it was the E partition not D thats why it was helpful .

And although I have created a NEW user "administrative' account, to control and change my old user password, the new User account still does not allow for the change in the password via Control Panel>accounts, the option of 'change the password' does not exist as if the account was Completely protected!! What should I do in this case? I really want to access my old account ,it has all my important documents :((
you're old account is login.live.com/ associated with your windows.
so, if you want to reset it you must reset using the website there is no way you can reset the password locally, it's just for local users on the laptop.
I'm sorry I'm afraid you can't unless you change your password online

well I did actually change my login.live.com/ password successfully, ever since I changed it on my laptop, the PC keeps giving me an error that my passwords are all Incorrect!

Try to login or sign into your computer using your online account with old password and then try with new password but make sure you have connected to the internet,
I tried one of my old passwords
It Miraculously happened to be the one! !!!

Make sure you have enabled administrator account , backup your data for this account,( online account ) then logout and login using administrator account then go to settings and users from there remove it

Hey how do i do this with a acer when i get to the boot menu i have options like

which do i pick??
I'm not sure but, choose HDD:WDC WD10SPCX-21KHST0 then type "dir" if you see Windows folder that's ok

The hiccup i faced was that my pc was not recognizing the bootable usb and i could not force an auto repair session because it was demanding the password for the account to enter troubleshooting.
What i did was put my harddisk in another system and followed the first part of the video......for the second part i placed the hdd back in my laptop and followed ur steps for changing the password.
It worked like a charm.

On Windows Setup popup just press "Shift + F10" and command prompt will popup.. No need to goto next then repair blah blah thing

This does bring up the command prompt however you still need admin username and password. If you have forgotten this it is no use.
Yes you are right, but, there is always a way........try to boot from external windows installation media -> before you click on install there is a link "Repair my computer" click on it then click troubleshoot -> advanced options -> command prompt -> and follow the rest of instructions as mentioned in this video.............

after you do this , is your data on local disk c are removed?
This video is a clean solution to reset the forgotten password on your Windows laptop. This procedure is a no nonsense approach for both novice and expert users, anybody can do this. It assumes that the owner has either the Windows installer DVD or Windows on USB key to boot the machine to get access to the command prompt. Windows as the repair utility that allow user to get into command prompt to repair the computer system files if they are corrupted. However, using the Windows repair utility, it requires one to log on to a Windows user account on the Windows partition as some user found out. Using the Windows installation disk, it appears to bypass the installed Windows logon user account, but one needs to know where the Windows partition is on the drive (c: or d:).
At the step of" CD windows /system32 " gives me "the system cannot find the path specified."
Note:the instlation media is in a flash drive not CD

@Safaa Al-Hayali, first of all Thank you!!! I was able to remove the password. But was not able to follow step-by-step because of 2 things:
1. Minute 1:59. I found more volumes Volume 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. The third volume (Volume 2) was Ltr F which I believed is the system partition. So, I picked Ltr F instead of D as in your video. It worked... until the "One More Thing Step" starting minute 3:49...
2. I could restart the system but could not display the Boot Option Menu to Boot from 'Window Installation Media' which is on my USB flashdrive. When I restarted and either press F2 for setup to get to the Boot Menu or F12 for Boot Manager I don't find an option to boot from USB Flash drive. Thus, I could not follow your next instructions after minute 3:49.
What to do? Can you please help?

If you receive an error attempting to issue command "net user *" in where the error reads "not authoritative" this could mean the account you are attempt to reset the password on is a Microsoft Live account. These accounts cannot be managed locally as the credentials are actually stored in the Microsoft Live cloud provider.
Perhaps a suitable alternative is to create a new local computer account and grant it administrative rights instead of resetting an existing accounts password. To create a new local administrative account it requires two commands. The first command
creates the user account, the second command associates the new user with the local administrators group. To create the new user issue the command "net user /add " (replace with actual user name, and replace with some password you choose).
To associate the newly created user with the local administrators group issue the command "net localgroup administrators /add" (again, replace with actual user name).

Yep this worked for me. Perfect use of the command prompt and I'll remember this video for future incidents. Would it be a bad idea to keep the utilmen.exe on the (ease of access) button at the login? Or would that create some issues? I'm the only one who will ever use my PC so I'd like to leave it there if it's safe to do so. Otherwise I'll just move it back, no biggie. Great video, straight to the point, exactly like most people like it.
