    Newbie here. When is a good time to buy these ETFS? They are nearly all at pretty much all time highs right now. As over time they should all go up, is it still not a bad idea to invest now?
    Also, as this video is now a couple of years old, can you give an update as to which ETFS on here you llke now? 10 in total now I see.
    Thanks for your excellent videos and hope to hear from you.

    • @BryanInvest
      @BryanInvest  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You should only be investing in these if you are willing to hold them for 10-30 years. If you think the prices will be higher in 30 years time then you can consider investing in them. No one knows what the future holds, we can only look at historical prices which suggests the market usually always goes up in the long term. You could also follow a dollar cost average strategy so you don't get stressed about share prices.
      Also, I will be releasing an updated Commsec Pocket video including all 10 ETFs. Thanks!

    Commsec pocket now got about 10 etf.
    It will be great if you can consider doing another updated video, and if you can include what is the possible alternate of each of these 10 etfs.
    Only down side i see with commsec pocket is i have buy at market rate and can not bid. Any thoughts?

      @BryanInvest  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Pratik, I'm definitely planning to do an updated Commsec Pocket video! Yes, that is correct. However, when investing in ETFs buying at market or limit price won't make a material difference in the long term. The $2 brokerage is still very good value.

      Hey Tatah, you don't need a CDIA for Pocket. You just need a commbank account to link to your Pocket account. They will deduct the money from that account.

    Hi Bryan,
    I just turned 18 and I’m looking into investing through commsec pocket, this video was so helpful! I just have one question regarding tax - would the tax I have to pay on my profits when I sell my shares be really high? Or even if I don’t sell them till years later, will I still be taxed on owning the shares regardless if I have sold them or not? That’s just one thing I’m worried about and I usually do my tax returns by myself I’m not sure if it will complicate things. Thank you!!

    • @BryanInvest
      @BryanInvest  ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Hello Helen, firstly well done for thinking about investing at such a young age! 😄
      1. You pay tax on capital gains whenever you sell a stock at a higher pricer price than when you bought it. The rate depends on how much you’re currently earning in income so if you have another job you may already have some income. The current tax rates don’t charge you any tax if you earn less than $18,200. So theoretically, you could make a profit/capital gain of up to $18,200 and not pay any tax if you don’t have any other income. However, if you go above that amount, you will be charged at your marginal tax rate. Please see attached link for the current tax rates: www.ato.gov.au/Rates/Individual-income-tax-rates/
      2. If you keep your stocks for over 12 months, then you will get a capital gains discount which means you will only pay tax on 50% of your profit. Eg. You sell your stock after 12 months and make a $1,000 profit. You will only be charged tax on $500. You won’t ever be taxed on your stocks if you don’t sell them. However, you may be taxed on any dividends you receive but usually the online tax return form has it pre-filled for you. If not, you can check out this video about stocks and taxes which explains more: th-cam.com/video/9t13QmDnbo0/w-d-xo.html
      I hope this makes sense! Btw, don’t stress too much about tax returns. It’s not that complicated especially at your age. Most of the information is already online and you can do it yourself. When you get older and have more investments then it’s worth going to a tax accountant. Good luck and let me know how you go 👍

      @BryanInvest  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey DAnn, I'm really proud of you for taking action towards your financial goal. Yes, most banks these days allow you to create multiple savings accounts free of charge.
      I would absolutely open several accounts for emergency fund, investing, general expenses etc. This gives you a target to try to hit so gives you extra motivation.
      Just contact your bank to see if they allow you to open some extra accounts for free and if they don't then there are plenty of banks that do.

      @@DAnn-wi7nm Most of the paper work you get you can probably discard. • @RoszenCariaso
    @RoszenCariaso ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Bryan,
    I just wanted to clarify about dividends. I thought if it's ETF they are obliged to pay the dividend. You mentioned that sometimes companies do not pay back dividends?

    • @BryanInvest
      @BryanInvest  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, ETFs do have to pay dividends IF the companies/stocks they hold in the fund pay dividends.
      However, individual companies/stocks do not have to pay dividends. It is at the discretion of the company and how well they do that year or how much cash they have in reserve. Even though some companies advertise a high dividend yield. They don’t have to legally pay any dividend at all or can stop at any time.
      So an ETF of blue chip companies would most likely pay dividends since their profit is predictable every year. However, it’s not guaranteed.

      These are all ETFs. People tend to hold on to these for a long time (20+ years). The idea is you keep adding to them and over time it will compound and grow into a nice nest egg for you. So if you're looking for short term profits, these are probably not the right investments.

    I just wanted to ask a question on Aussie dividends.
    If I buy a unit and that involves multiple companies within the unit. For example Rio Tinto 8.7% of that unit. Is the dividend paid; the full yearly dividend (approx) $9.40 p/year per stock unit OR do we only get paid 8.7% (that is apart of the Aussie dividend share) of the $9.40 per year .
    The reason why I ask this is because they have also grouped companies like NIB and Medibank at such a low percentage, that if we were only to get the percentage share of 3.2% of their yearly dividend paid quarterly, it would be less than 1c paid per year…. That means 3 of those companies are using my money and not really paying me any return.
    Obviously it would be better if I got paid the full dividend amount but if I don’t then CBA has grouped 1/3 of my investment knowing I won’t get a return for my money on top of fees. Is that kind of against fiduciary duty since they picked it and financial advisors would have been making these investment options?

    • @BryanInvest
      @BryanInvest  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey Claire,
      Happy New Year! That is a great question to start 2023.
      Here are my thoughts:
      1. An ETF has to pass on all the dividends they receive from all their companies inside the fund. So you are not getting ripped off in that regard.
      2. The nature of ETFs is to include different types of companies. Some may give out strong dividends. Some may give out less dividends but may outperform in share price growth. Nothing is guaranteed of course. The whole point is diversification since we won't 100% know which of these companies will perform well during a given year. If we only choose the 'strong' companies like Rio and leave out 'weak' companies like NIB then it defeats the whole purpose of an ETF. We may as well just invest individually into the 'strong' companies. Also, unless the ETF is a specific 'Dividend ETF', there is less emphasis on choosing companies that only pay high dividends. There are 2 ways to make money from shares: 1. Dividends 2. Share price appreciation. The ETF is trying to profit from a bit of both so it can't optimise dividends as the sole criteria.
      3. CBA/Commsec has no control over how these ETFs are run. They are just the gate keepers that allows us to buy and sell shares (ETFs). As investors, we need to do our own proper research and ensure we trust which funds we are willing to invest our money in.
      I hope this explains it a bit better 😊

    Hi Bryan, so on the commsec app it says you need to invest a minimum of $500 to start. Will this occur for each ETF or share you invest in or is it only the starting fee all together?

    • @BryanInvest
      @BryanInvest  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this a rule called Minimum Marketable Parcel in Australia where you need to spend at least $500 on any stock purchase for the first time. After that, you can invest in smaller amounts on the same stock.
      You will have to spend $500 on EACH stock/ETF for first buy.

    Would I be wrong in saying that this is setup just like a super fund? Would you not be better off just investing more money into your super? Same risks same long term investments it’s just seems like a superfund that’s been dressed up to make people think there investors. If I’m wrong I apologise 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @BryanInvest
      @BryanInvest  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You are absolutely right Marc. The only difference is you usually pay a lower management than some of the popular super funds out there. Plus with Super, your money is tied up until you're 60 at least. Some people may want to retire earlier so they may sell off some of their portfolio to cover expenses or live off the dividends. Investing everything into super basically means you've accepted that you will only retire when the government says you're old enough to.

      There is no such thing as an investment that never loses money. If it were that easy, everyone would just invest in it. Historically speaking the stock market has always increased if given enough time. However, we cannot guaranteed that this will continue to happen in the future. We take calculated risks and hope that it does.
