- Hi, this is Miss Diorama! Welcome or welcome back to my channel. Ever wanted a good paint storage idea for your Army Painter (or similar) Paints? In this video I show you how I made my own Hobby Paint Organizer using my Laser, some 3mm thick MDF, and some PVA wood glue.
Due to popular demand I will be putting the files in my Etsy shop for download, and also I will be selling it in kit form for Australian customers only;
Listing for the Kit:
www.etsy.com/au/listing/16476...
Unfortunately I cannot send the kits to the US, Japan and some other countries as they do not accept wood products from Australia through customs.
Listing for the SVG Files for everyone:
www.etsy.com/au/listing/16476...
I designed the files, using inspiration from the following people;
Link to 3D printed Paint Organiser .STL file by PrintPaintPlay - www.thingiverse.com/thing:408...
I found these Free Files for a Laser Cut Paint Carousel;
3axis.co/laser-cut-tray-carou...
I downloaded and used the above SVG files as inspiration for my paint holder. I only kept a few features such as the 6 x trays, and the carousel or Ferris wheel style. I also borrowed the idea for the drawer at the bottom of my paint holder and the centre axle that everything spins around from an amazing Etsy seller that calls themselves “The Goblin Tavern”.
Other than that, I changed everything and added the hexagonal design that is synonymous with The Army Painter, because after all, this paint rack was designed specifically for my Army Painter paints. It would also fit other brands that have the same sized hobby paint dropper bottles in their paint ranges. My paint rack holds 90 hobby paint bottles and can be made with a laser engraver/cutter, 3mm MDF or plywood and is held together with PVA wood glue.
If you could see yourself using a Laser for your hobby requirements, why not check out ORTUR’s range of lasers for yourself. Try a hanger, a metal hanger in the shape of a hook wrapped around the laser head where the plug is and make it like a hook to where it just lays in there and see if that works
Army Painter should be buying that file from you. Great advertisement for them, and that is so cool. Outstanding design.
this design is great, it has given me an idea for my own area, as I don't have the room to have 3 of these for all my paints, Thank you for giving the world this work of art
This is so rad!
Thanks @UncleJessy!
This is brilliant, thanks for sharing
Excellent design and work
Thankyou so much!
Great idea, thanks for tutorial!
What a great idea i have over 300 of the army painter paints and cant seem to find a rack that i like to hold them but these are great!
That is the coolest thing I've seen in a while. Thanks so much!
great engineering!!
Wow that’s amazing. I desperately want one
Excellent design.
Thank you! Cheers!
For the cord dragging across, you could 3d print an overhead bracket that way it just dangles down and never comes into contact with anything.
Just purchased one going to be amazing for my speedpaint set on my hobbydesk!
print a crane arm sit on table holding the cable so it freely swimgs hanging over too of all the side movement arms
OMG, I need this. Though I'd need 3.
Thanks so much for designing and sharing this! I liked the zen quality to your video, and loved that you incorporated the hexes into the aesthetics of the design.
Just listed on etsy
Try to 3d print a drag chain it solved the same issue was having@MissDiorama
With all my army, painter and Vallejo paint. I like to put a drop of the paint on the Is small circle part of the lid. That way you can tell the color
Depending on the length of the hose, You can add a tall support to the laser module and one to the side of the frame to have the hose sit on top of. Or a more complicated system with be suspending it over the frame with a small gantry or something similar. The idea works in my head lol.
Very cool design. I'm currently trying to find a good paint storage solution and may give this a shot using my buddies laser cutter.
Great idea
This Rack would be useful for mine and sister Acrylic paints 😅
Very cool
Any chance of having it printable with FDM printer?
Or PDF file? plz?
This 1000%
3d print some clip-on guide arms for the air hose. Almost like clip on oversized sowing needles but with open top eyes.
Love the design, great work. Wish I had the desk space for this with my paints, sadly, due to my AP obsession (don't know why) have over 400. Have to stick to wall mounted
I will have to design something like that 🤔
Good design. I had a similar problem, though when I count in craft paints (for terrain) and miscellaneous sized paint bottles (AK Interactive, Mr. Hobby, Tamiya) I end up well over 1,000. I found a black rotating DVD storage cabinet that's 5' tall and 24" on a side (12" of each side open), and an OpenSCAD design for Vallejo paint holders. Because the design is OpenSCAD I was able to adjust parameters to make the paint racks fit exactly into the rotating DVD storage cabinet and accommodate the different circumference paint bottles I own. Solved a huge problem for me where I used to have everything in separate boxes scattered around my studio - so many boxes they were cluttering the floor.
Wow great work thank you
Thank you too!
This is an amazing design. It makes me wish I had space for a laser cutter.
Looks great, having some dividers in that bottom drawer could be a nice addition. This style of bottle is pretty much the standard so it's a great idea for most paints. C'mon GW get with the program here.
I made something similar for my paints, I needed draws in my case, but opted to splurge on clear acrlic, so I could see the labels when I open the draws, shout out from Melbourne btw
For the air hose issue, I'd recommend rigging some kind of harness that would sit above the laser work area and hold the air hose above its center with enough slack to reach all four corners. I have the same problem with my VR headset's cable and stuck some plastic hooks to my ceiling so I don't get my arms tangled up in it.
Great design on the carousel, I'd make feet out of more of the scraps to make access to the draw a little easier.
hot tip: every bottle has a little well at the very top of the cap, where also the small nubbin from the injection molding process is. you can fab a little drop of the respective paint in that and let it dry, that way you can identify your paints from above, and have the added benefit of seeing how your paint looks dry contrary to its look wet and through hazy plastic bottles.
A drag chain is a good solution for the air assist hose and cables.
Drag chain will work
you can 3d print a cable run chain then run any cables and the air hose in it
nice job
Thank you! Cheers!
Would love these files
That looks awesome.Great idea but putting a turn table underneath would make it even better
Cool idea!
I had the same issue with the air hose on my LM3, I just laser cut a guide that I glued to top of the wheel covers.
Good tip!
look at the sprung boom arms for mouse cables.. that should what you need, attach it to the actual laser or carriage .. I use a system like this on a 2.5 D cnc machine for the air and Vac. lines.
use a wire coat hanger unbend it put a loop on one end and secure the other end to the laser cross beam. run air hose through loop to keep it up off the surface
Great idea; thank you!
Looks great. Would you be willing to share your version of the files. They look better to be honest.
Thanks for replying.......... oh wait!!!!
What a cool idea, wonder how it would work with tamiya 10ml paint pots?
Working on one be up for sale soon
Build an arm that helps the hose sit well above the machine
How do GW paints fit in the cradle can you still stack 2 deep or is it to narrow? tyu
I would love to buy the files for that. It looks like a fun project
Me too, looks fantastic, i want one 😮
Agreed. I would buy Miss Diorama's files. Her paint carousel looks more detailed and well made.
Hi and thankyou! I will be putting this in my Etsy shop - I did not think it would be popular and so initially I wasn't going to. It should be up there soon, keep an eye out!
link to your store. ? awesome idea by the way.. i would used the ones you posted links to but i also use army painter range and like the looks of your design.@@MissDiorama
ok found the link to the store.. :) was on your main page. :)
Maybe have an arm that can hold the air tube over the top of the build area.
Nice storage, how about an idea to make a smaller wall mounted carusell for a single row of paint 🤔, i made two staircase models but they eat up soo much table space soo the idea is to make something wall mounted or a carusell with less footprint :)
Cool idea! I might look into that one!
Hi
for the problem with the tube...... thing about a mouse cable holder, only bigger. print one that will hold the tube with a little torsion above it.
Thanks for the tip!
Nice work!!! You should sell a kit for this.
I might; problem is there are many restrictions sending wood and wood products overseas from Australia.
I don't paint, but it would seem interesting to transform the drawer into a wet paint palet to keep paint the next day. It is a good idea or not?
Dear Miss Diorama, I don't suppose these would be available to ship to the UK? Best Wishes Johnny
I definitly wanna buy those files (my cousine just bought a engraver).
I was just on your etsy and the files were available for purchase but when i went back they were gone?
They're back up again
Would it work still with bottle topper ? What is the height between the top of the bottle and the next drawer when it turn?
Probably not as the clearance is less than 10mm at the closest point - but I really love that idea. I have never seen those bottle toppers before you mentioned them.
My other comment seem to disapear when i want to post the link of the topper i bought to show you what it look like. But its à great feature especially for speedpaint range. I bought them on etsy(with army painter bottle topper as tags)
It allow you to show how the paint is on a mini way better than their "cube" .
Would be à great thing if it would fit aswell.
I would love to pick up a couple of Thea if you are selling the kits.
They're now on Etsy
excellent video and thank you for not speeding any part of the video up.
No problem 👍There were sped up parts during the laser cutting - up to 10x and during the 3D printing - up to 50x, otherwise the vid would have been too long.
... or print an energy chain 🤗
I had to look this one up! Good idea, but would it be flexible enough to move within the 400 x 400 cut area?
Hi Miss Diorama. Would you be able to tell me the price of the cut file? It's saying it's $110AUD on etsy.
Yes
i want to buy some
Hi @mannydeleon4066 if you live in one of the countries I can send wood to, then you can buy some! I will be putting this on Etsy shortly, probably both in kit form for Australia and UK, and the files for everywhere else.
You should sell them. I'd buy one.
It’s on Etsy
@@MissDiorama I'm gonna buy one.
Why would it be out question if u don't own a 3d printer?
You could probably use a CNC machine or some other cutting machine
just use a tin of duluxe lol
Can I please just order this from you 🙏
Hi @SirusV88 if you live in Australia or England I can definitely send one, however unfortunately I can't send wood or wood products to certain other countries as they won't allow it through their customs... I am thinking of selling the files on my Etsy. Would you be interested in those?
Yes, please! I'm out of the US. I'd definitely be able to put that too good use
First, get a vented enclosure for your laser cutter. the little tiny shield around the laser is not enough to protect you from the laser it self. Cutting MDF also produces toxic fumes that need to be vented outside. second "DIY" is a bit of a stretch considering this requires hundreds of dollars worth of equipment. the paint rack is pretty awesome though.
Hi @freedoomed - I have a vented room (check 05:00 where I talk about this). But yes it is so important to practice safety when using these Lasers. Thankyou for your concern! I do appreciate it.
