it seems like yesterday the winning tune up in the engine was 40 degrees advance in timing(lock-up),slightly rich tune in carb that depended on ambient temp and elevation or air pressure .sometimes with really bad traction you could kill some ``excess``torque with cam settings but those who had the opportunity were a few.i was one of them few as i managed to trade a really expensive oilpan to a jesel cam drive.also fiddling round with valve lash worked if you knew what you are doing.i did a lot of street driving with chevy big blocks and holley dominators(carburetors)and managed some good results like squeezing 750 hp out of 11.5:1 comp iron head 461 cid stock block chevy.also a 800 +hp roots blown 467 was pretty nice street engine.then i built a blown vintage pro stock engine and run out of money as the engine just blew thru my A-1 race converter.nowadays guys read computer screens,yesterday we read ign plugs.(some still do as sort of back up).
Something for the future and 1320 guys to take note of is rolling shutter and the parallax effect when reviewing footage. You'd be better using slo mo camera (even an iPhone) mounted right at the *exact* finish. Panning along with rolling shutter actually won't show the cars in their *exact* position and parallax will make that more so if there's any other movement.
Absolutely LUV that AMC. Aside from the obvious rarity these days I have always wondered why we don't see more of that body at the track, it was so ahead of it's time WRT the aero design.
I'm neither a Ford or Chevy guy, I like both. But just about every fast Ford in the world has a Chevy LS swap. Not sure why there's any debate who's better. It's obviously Chevy lol.

Not really, the 1/4 has way more time to big end a car. In the 1/8 if you can't launch then you're screwed. Its all about the tuning and less about who spent more money. If by difficult you mean you have to work harder at your 9-5 to compete, then sure. The 1/4 traps higher but the 1/8 is more competitive, especially in a no prep.
Michael I totally agree it was mostly just a joke because each requires different things from the car and the tune I just prefer a quarter mile because the feeling of an 8 second car is unreal
@@mguay001 All the money is made on the front half tho. Very few races are won on the big end, but when it happens, its usually dramatic and more exciting. Those moments get all the coverage. I gotta say, I prefer 1/4 mile racing. Those higher trap speeds are what get my blood pumping.
This is my home track and I am surprised they are using the shut down area as the starting line. They are actually racing towards the state road that runs directly behind the normal wet box/staging lanes.

If by difficult you mean you have to work harder at your 9-5 to compete, then sure. The 1/4 traps higher but the 1/8 is more competitive, especially in a no prep.
Michael I totally agree it was mostly just a joke because each requires different things from the car and the tune I just prefer a quarter mile because the feeling of an 8 second car is unreal
@@mguay001 All the money is made on the front half tho. Very few races are won on the big end, but when it happens, its usually dramatic and more exciting. Those moments get all the coverage.
I gotta say, I prefer 1/4 mile racing. Those higher trap speeds are what get my blood pumping.

When you keep seeing the same fox body mustang.....and then you realize it's not the same fox body mustang.
This is my home track and I am surprised they are using the shut down area as the starting line. They are actually racing towards the state road that runs directly behind the normal wet box/staging lanes.
Finish line is still before the finish line for the normal track. They're racing 1/8 mile with 1/4+ mile shutdown. Plenty of room.
