I saw this band. I was 18 yrs.old. it was 1989,in Los Angeles. The whole conception from Green River-mother Love Bone was life changing...I have been blessed.
That is the ultimate blessing man.I bet Andrew wood f**king rocked it. I mean without Mother love bone there would be no Pearl jam or Temple of the dog. Alice in chains would have never wrote the song Would?. To be a part of that history is amazing.
I had this tape for a long time and never listened to it, then shortly after my brother died I finally listened to it and found this song and heard it for the first time. Now it reminds me of brother John every time I hear it
I cried when I listened to this song, my names Chloe and my dad showed me this song a couple years ago. I just listened to it again and it reminded me of him; I haven't seen him since before thanksgiving.
Andrew Wood was such a beautiful, poetic lyricist & this song, back in 1989 helped me through some hard times. In 2016 once again I turned to Mother Love Bone...along with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Blind Melon, STP, & Incubus to help me kick heroin for good & have not since. I owe my life to all of my saviors, who sadly are in heaven. Andrew reminds me of Shannon Hoon. I am so fortunate to have seen all my saviors live before they passed. Rest in peace Andrew, Shannon, Chris, Layne, Scott. Your voice lives on through me.
@UCOHddf072D6Qe4X-AMX7gSQ DEFINITELY is AMAZING my Beautiful Friend! Their voices are spiritual experiences on levels that most people will never know. Glad we share the same bond & love for our "Saviors"! ✌💕🤘🙏🎸
I had this on tape on the SINGUED soundtrack back in 92, but I would ajways skip this song because I didn’t know how to take the vocals. I was not a fly air metal guy..I tried to be but it was too macho for me…but I DID like Skid Row…and a wee bit of G N R. Alice and Chaibs, Anthrax, and Panteracall attempted and failed at the hair band thing because ultimately that wasn’t in their soul. Shannon from Blind Mekon similarly was a hair guy. I bring it yo because I think that given time, these guys would absolutely have lost the hair band thing. Now, listening to this as a man, after going through heartaches and addictions and burying loved ones, I am touched by just how sensitive Andy’s voice really was. He is trying to be an LA shrieked like Vince Neil, but his echoey falsettos take on a ghostly banshee cry effect here instead. I think he and Shannon Hoon were both an archetype for a new type of warrior Piet that we never got to see a mature example of. As much as I liked old Pearl Jam(admittedly I don’t listen to anything past Vitology), Eddie is a completely different kind of guy. Even as a bare chested surfer darling, he was way too soulful and artistic to ever be a wild-haired front man; old live tapes of him acting up make me feel like I am watching a librarian trying to be a punk rocker or something. It’s a shame, obviously, but think about this-at this point, we have lost all three of the Big Seattle trio:Nirvana, Alice, and Soundgarden. The fact that we lost Mother Love Bone first is almost like that billet was taken by Andy so we wouldn’t lose Pearl Jam later. Say hello to heaven, Andy…now Cornell can tell you in person.
I love this song ,so evocative of being a little cosmic drugged out hippie / goth type thing back in the good old daze .Its sucks I guess being 52 now but I' m sure glad to have been young wild and free in the 80' s ,early 90' s .We never had 2 bans to rub together yet somehow always had a pot of rice and veges on the stove to feed my mates ,Thunderbird wine and enough homegrown to sink a ship. The other tyhing I remember about those pre- mobile phones and internet days is thatwe were never in ,always a great rock band to see in a seedyclub downtown. To all the geration X' s I salute you ,so many talented people ended up OD- ing so young ,lost too many beautiful mates.
If he hadnt died we wouldnt have had Pearl Jam, so I guess something good came out of it. Like his father said in his funeral to his bandmates, "Go and get another singer, but dont get a junkie".
His voice, music, just legendary, this grunge rock took me thru my teenager to young adult years, with no cell phones, social media, I appreciate grunge music so much more than youth today, much more respect to the grunge gods who are not with us today! LOVE, ROCK, GRUNGE ~ FOREVER YOUNG!
My new puppy, Chloe Dancer, represents everything about this song. I wont forget the time spending by her side. And yes as a puppy she dont know better.
I too named my pup chloe after this song. Shes a little over a year old and the sweetest girl. Praying I get the chance for her to get to go to Nola before she fulfills the song
I was at a five guys late last night and Stardog Champion came on the sound system. It wasn't radio, it was a song list. I can't remember ever being somewhere and hearing any Mother Love Bone playing. I have loved this band since the first time hearing them. It really saddens my heart to think of what they could have been if it weren't for the unfortunate passing of Andrew. Too many great artists leave too soon.
My #2 I heard this song when i was 12 loved it but had no idea what he was talking about. Didn't realize then it would be semi autobiographical when I was in rehab listening to it at age 28.
Took a lot of them way too early!!!!!It's a great thing to have them right here at our fingers.....Always paying tribute to the ones that help us cope and understand what we go through everyday just to get through.....People don't understand the complications of a distorted youth.....If I can give anyone any advice (not that they would listen) DON'T WAIT UNTIL 50 TO TRY AND MAKE THAT CHANGE!!!!! Consider myself lucky to be listening at my age..... Peace
Cool song to be named after, Chloe. For the record, my dog was named Star about a decade before "Stardog Champion" came out and I used to call him Star Dog long before it too. My beagle, Star 1980-1995 RIP
You got a cool name girl. The one who gave you this name must be humorous. I hope you are a nice daughter of your pure grunge parents.. Lucky You.. This is my favourite song of Old Pearl Jam , i.e, Mother Love Bone..
I love Andrew Wood I'm so happy that Layne Staley wore his shirt in the AIC video..WOULD!! And the song was a dedication to Andrew Wood..god why did herion have taken the greatest musicians ever
Great song. Seems like he inspired Axl Rose. From 1:58 to 2:12 it reminds me of The Revealing Science of God, an amazing musical journey from the Yes album "Tales From Topographic Oceans". From 3:34 to 3:46 , that beautiful melody and the melody of Chloe Dancer, has a striking similarity. Awesome.
Landrew the Love God had that SUPERSTAR quality, that charismatic aura....can't help but feel, no!.....KNOW he would've still been HUGE in whatever path he chose. Just imagine Andy instead of Vedder (gonna get some hate but fuck it, I got the floor here!) in PJ (w/Abbruzzese, of course) Talk about heaven rite there!! "MALFUNKSHUN The Andrew Wood Story" is amazing, everyone should see it! what a beautiful soul he was & his Family-I just love them all & gorgeous Xana, feel SO bad for her loss too. If only love alone could've saved you....RIP Andy & Layne
Personally I think Pearl Jam sucks Just never really liked Eddie Vedders voice... Not many people agree with me ... I'm sure the 2 guys in pearl jam were thankful to find a front man and go on and still be famous but I guarantee you it's in the back of their mind what could have been if Andy would Have lived... His musical talent would have only increased. So sad really bugs me I was only 9 years old so I never got to experience his music only through chance finding it in TH-cam At that age I had not found the music that I truly Was into
You cant really compare the two . They are both completely opposite sounding vocalists. Saying just imagine Andy instead of Vedder, would be ok if MLB had actually done that and continued as MLB with Eddie in Andys role..but it wouldn't have worked at all and that's not even close to what happened. Jeff and Stone were at a loss after Andy died and still wanted to create more music. They were in the middle of forming Mookie Blaylock and had just hired Mike Mc Cready for lead guitar(who was Stone Gossard's childhood friend) later they heard Eddies audition tape and the lyrics he put to their music (the Mamasan trilogy)and hired him as their vocalist. So, then Chris Cornell approached Jeff and Stone to form Temple of the Dog, the amalgamation of part SG,part MLB . Chris was Andy's best friend and roommate back in Seattle and TOTD was formed because he had songs he wanted to record in tribute to Andy( funfact: TOTDs name came from the MLB song "Man of Golden Words". ) Eddie happened to be present at a Temple of the Dog rehearsal because Mookie was rehearsing later that day. Eddie noticed Chris having a little difficulty with his own arrangement of Hunger strike and so he stepped up to the mic during that rehearsal of "Hunger strike" to give Chris a hand with the lower octave vocals and it was perfect. Eddie would never have suited the MLB vocal style of Andy and he never tried, intended or wanted to replace Andy, but he certainly showed his versatility and writing skills with the Mamasan trilogy and with his unique voice. He completely suited what sound and style Jeff and Stone were going for and so MB/later becoming Pearl Jam, was born. Eddie would also become the new close friend of Chris too. Comparing Eddie and Andy is like comparing apples and oranges . That's my lil opinion. ❤️✌️
@@SlimJ1980-Eire Absolutely! Not to mention the different personalities and lyrical minds. Apples and oranges. With Ed, the guys went on to craft some truly beautiful lyrical gens and deserve every ounce of success.

In high school I was a handsome but shy loner that was very talented at something but no one but me knew about it and I didn't have any friends. Then one day a beautiful and quirky girl named Chloe came to our school. She came and sat with me at lunch and started talking to me like we already knew each other and we became best friends and that turned into a relationship. Then one night I was standing in front of a window with no shirt on playing a beautiful song I had written on the saxophone and all of a sudden she caught a disease and died. 350,000 people came to her funeral. I tried to get her parents to play this song but they wouldn't. Now everytime I hear it I don't think of Chloe.
I know everywhere you look these lyrics up, it says "Chloe danced the tables", and that certainly fits the context, but it really sounds like "Chloe does the tables"....
It reminds me of my ex that passed away from melanoma cancer in 2012. It was so fucking hard. She was older than myself. It's 2023 I'm still not over it. I don't want another girl. I don't want another one. I don't give a fuck. Feel that
