  • A lost Florida tourist attraction, the "Magic World" skyride, a Von Roll type 101, as preserved in 8mm home movies from the early 1960s. Includes views of the now-closed Miracle Strip Amusement Park, Goofy Golf, and other 60s favorites.

I know what you mean. We live near B'ham, Al and often visit PC. Sadly it's all buildings now. I liked it so much better when I was a child. The old train that use to go around Miracle Strip is here in Warrior, Al where I live. It sits off I-65 behind the house of Millionaire owner Ted Hallmark. He purchased the train in the late 80's. thanks for sharing...

This is an awesome find for me. I actually worked at the Sky Ride for three Summers when I was a teenager (1969-1971). Most of the time I was the guy at the back stage who hauled the cars around and sent them back to the front. It didn't pay much, but it was an interesting job ... great memories. I also worked maintenance at Goofy Golf a couple Summers.
Thanks for sharing and for encouraging others to do the same. I don't have anything as old as your video though.

There are remnants of the rail from the magic world railway under the rear terminal that sits behind Shipwreck Golf. Still about 3 gondolas still dangling from the terminal and the cable was dumped all around the base.

Wow! So cool to see this working! I've seen the hulking rusted remains for at least a decade.

The year I started working there the owner installed old style police car bubble gum machines and car batteries under the seat to power them. Pretty good attraction draw especially at night, when the viewfrom the ride was less, unfortunately.
Had to charge the batteries every night. The guy had a Lincoln Mark III, which he used as a ladder to change lights and such. Moron.

Do you think there was lot of love making on those?

For three summers in the early 1970s, I worked at the back stage, where the cars were manually pulled around and sent back to the front.
There were many times when I pulled a car up that the couples inside obviously hadn't expected to encounter a live person before their return to the front stage. Love making may be an exaggeration, considering how short the ride was. But, certainly some necking and heavy petting, with disarranged clothing in some cases.

I figure a hurricane would not be good for this thing.

Obviously, it wouldn't be operating in a hurricane. The towers and cables should've done just fine, with the cars secured on the ground.

Wasn't this ride damaged by a hurricane? I thought Von Roll 101s were built to withstand everything except bad riders and bad operators
