Such a beautiful woman , so proud and so wonderfully full of love and soul how could anyone not love her , RIP dear Hattie , you will never be forgotten xxx
Thanks for sharing this tribute to Miss McDaniel. She persevered through much wrong that was deeply hurtful and used her amazing gift and talent to beneft the public. Thank God she waa able to enjoy many of the fruits of her labor as well as her public. Miss McDaniel was pure class. Look forward to seeing her in the presence of King Jesus. 🙏♥️✝️🇺🇸
She was an outstanding actress. She deserved every bit of the Oscar she won for GWTW. She was a strong woman who blazed a trail for others to follow. RIP Hattie. We will never forget you.
If you ever want to see a strong black woman open your eyes she had to endure a negative society to prove herself there will never be another like her deep love and respect ❤️❤️❤️
To me, the most outstanding performance in the movie "Gone With The Wind" was that of Hattie McDaniel in the scene where she is expressing her concern about Rhett after the death of Bonnie to Melanie as they ascend the stairs. In a film with so many great performances, this one stands out as a truly classic scene. She certainly deserved the Oscar that she was awarded.
What a woman! She stole the show with her performance in GWTW. Her acceptance speech for her Oscar was filled with sweetest sincerity and humility. Thanks for the memories, Hattie. May your beautiful soul rest in peace. Amen.
Hattie McDaniel was the foundation of the movie Gome with the Wind. She made me laugh and cry. I don't think I would have liked the movie without her. She made the movie click with her sternness, out spokeness, laughter, and her wonderful talent. She was a true artist.
In high school, me and a couple of friends had a GWTW club, more for the book than the movie, but as far as the movie went, we revered Miss McDaniel's performance. We used to say " Mist' Ashley come home to Atlanta and you be waiting for him jes like a spider."
Hattie was such a confidence beautiful, happy, strong talented black woman.she definitely paved the way for other black starlets.she seemed like a good person and seem happy with a smile all the time like nothing bad was or would bring her down.her roles were funny I just seen on another video they even made a cartoon about her mammie maid rolls.there has to be a documentary about her somewhere if not that would be a shame.I think they should do a movie about her life that would be amazing and it would be good to I know she got a story to tell.I loved her smile, her personality and her beautiful silky chocolate skin it was so shiny and smooth made me want a chocolate candy bar lol lol.r.I.p Hattie
Agreed! There was SOOO much more to her than maid & mammy roles-she was originally a gospel singer with one beautiful, powerful voice. I have always loved her, though she passed years before I was born. Monique showed the epitome of class, graciousness and respect for Ms. McDaniels when she paid tribute you her in her Oscar acceptance speech. Thank You, Hattie, for the pleasure you gave your fans over the years.
She is an ever enduring and amazing woman. Her character in Gone with the Wind was absolutely perfect. So loving and genuine. Her lines and expressions were outstanding and really just made you feel cozy and cared for. Thank You, Ms. Hattie McDaniel for being such a warm and wonderful human being.🌹🕊🌺💐🌸👌🏻
just what I had in mind. I've always loved her part in Gone With The Wind, more a leading role than a supporting one, she really deserved her Oscar. If anyone should dare a remake of this picture Hattie has left a powerful performance that will not easily be upstaged. Love Hattie forever :)
You can never help but love this woman. She was the greatest. She had the most outstanding talent of those days. She was a brave strong woman who knew what she was doing. Although she always played maids, she was far too wonderful for anyone to hate. After all, she said so herself, "I would rather play maids than be one." So beautiful and talented. God rest her soul.
Thank God Haattie is being remembered now more than ever! It was a struggle for her, but she was a truly great lady and actress. May she rest in peace.
If ever anyone deserved every accolade the film industry could bestow, then it has to be Hattie McDaniel. Just take another look through the stills here then tell me your not looking at one of the nicest persons one could ever wish to have met. Her face speaks volumes. A big lady with a heart to match.
You and all Hattie McDaniel fans simply must go see Hattie: "I want to tell you"- it's a dynamic musical play wherein actress Vickilyn Reynolds portrays Hattie in such a remarkable way, you have to remind yourself that Ms McDaniels is singing with the angels instead of on stage before you!
I first saw GWTW in 1969 in a theater. The greatest scene in the movie is when "Mammy" (Hattie) is emploring Melanie to have Rhett bury his dead little daughter. At the end of that scene the audience appaluded Hattie who by that time had been dead for seventeen years. The performance was so powerful and moving we just had to. I know she was somewhere up in heaven smiling.
I always loved the way that she tried to parent the wayward, spoiled Scarlett! "It ain't fittin, it just ain't fitten!" One of my favorite lines from GWTW!
The sad part about it was. It was our own black males who did there best to try to destroy this woman to put a light skin woman in front of the camera. This man hated her so much until it put so much pressure on her and she got sick and passed. She said all she ever wanted to do was act and make people happy. And then she said why would he attack her like that and she didn't know him or did anything to him. It's our own who will try to destroy everything we worked for. Sad. Rest in peace legend
today's young ppl can learn allot from the sacrafice ppl like hattie went through to get 2 where she was.things are allot easier today and still u see ppl making excuses for themselves based on their skin colour learn from this great woman she made the impossible possible in a time where balack ppl had very little options or freedom.
@jckfmsincty - I just finished reading her biography by Jill Watts, who said that although Selznick staff had reportedly written her a speech, she left it at the table and instead gave her own, composed with the help of her long-time publicist, Ruby Berkley Goodwin. Watts also wrote that McDaniel was the first African-American to attend the Academy Awards ceremony, and that she received a huge round of applause upon entering the Coconut Grove ballroom at the Ambassador Hotel.
I just got done watching GWTW and her facial expressions were priceless. That to me is the mark of an outstanding actor... the skill of facial expression. Does anybody know where her Oscar is? I heard it had been stolen.
Hattie was born in 1895 to former slaves ( the youngest of 13 children ) and died in 1952 aged 57. She was married 4 times but remained childless. She died from breadt cancer. Hattie was a great actress who will NEVER be forgotten.
When Holly Berry won the Oscar she implied she was the first black women to win the Oscar, and everyone was "to the moon" about it. But the older generation knew that wasn't true and I thought was dishonest of her, as every black person knows Hattie McDaniels. Was Berry trying to make more of herself, and elevate her standing.
Halle is the first to win in a "Leading" role. I haven't seen that years show and haven't heard her speech, but I'm sure she did not have any ill intentions to the women who paved the way for her.
the photo of Hattie holding the Oscar statuette at 0:34 has been photoshopped. The full statuette's in the 40's only went to Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best actress. The other categories got the "plaque" which you can see her holding at 0:54 At some time in the Academy history, you were able to exchange your plaque for a full on statuette when it became common practice to hand out only statuettes.
@jckfmsincty You're right, but remember it was another time. As wrong as it was to treat her like that, at least it was a start. The studio and the Academy should be applauded for making that start and not denegrated. At the time Hattie was critisized by the NAACP for playing a maid. Her response was, "I'd rather play a maid than be one." The point is, let's remember the good surrounding the occassion of her winning the Oscar and put the bad behind us.
She played numerous parts besides Gone With the Wind. She starred with James Cagney in Johnny Come Lately. Enjoyed that movie-Gone With the Wind-nah. RIP Hattie McDaniel.
My favorite character in "Gone with the Wind".
Hattie McDaniel is so beautiful and talented 😍. R.I.P gorgeous lady 💖💐.
Such a beautiful woman , so proud and so wonderfully full of love and soul how could anyone not love her , RIP dear Hattie , you will never be forgotten xxx

Her performance in GWTW was formidable and absolutely awesome.

HATTIE MCDANIELS PART AND PERFORMANCE IN GWTW MADE IT A CLASSIC.
Miss MDaniel's scenes with Clark Gable, Bonnie's birth and death...are some of the most evocative in the movie.
She was "something that the angels gone done" RIP Hattie, thanks for the joy.
Well stated sir. She tread where angels dared. :)
What a woman! She stole the show with her performance in GWTW. Her acceptance speech for her Oscar was filled with sweetest sincerity and humility.
Thanks for the memories, Hattie. May your beautiful soul rest in peace. Amen.
Miss McDaniel was truly a queen. I remember her comment " I'd rather be paid to act a maid than to BE a maid. " Such grace of spirit.
This was one of the most gracious ladies of our time, I wish I could of met her.
Hattie McDaniel was a very smart woman who made it in Hollywood and so many others could not. Hats off to you Lady.
This surely bring back good memories. Used to watch her growing up. Very talented lady. God bless her.
She was the true star of GONE WITH THE WIND. She made Scarlett toe the line.

Ms McDaniel was a real star, born too soon for her full lifght to shine. She brought her roles to the screen in an eloquent and soulful manner.

Wonderful actress, and the movie would have not have won the Academy Award without her performance.
She must have been a strong, great woman.

She was a remarkable woman.
She grabbed her chance and made the best of it. Proud, intelligent woman. She will be remembered forever. Is it true her Oscar statue is lost?

I recently watched Gone With The Wind on Turner Classic Movies. They had cut out Hattie's wonderful "ain't fittin'" speech.
I just got done watching GWTW and her facial expressions were priceless. That to me is the mark of an outstanding actor... the skill of facial expression. Does anybody know where her Oscar is? I heard it had been stolen.
HATTIE was fabulous.
@@aarondigby9859 11 years later I give you a thumbs up lol
Always wondered when and how she died. So sad it was cancer. RIP Hattie. You totally rocked.

0:04, She's damn beautiful in that picture!
When is the film of her life going to be made. I thought Monique was going to play her.
I think they may get someone darker. Because you know all hell would break loose
She played numerous parts besides Gone With the Wind. She starred with James Cagney in Johnny Come Lately. Enjoyed that movie-Gone With the Wind-nah. RIP Hattie McDaniel.
is she that woman in Tom and Jerry cartoon?
Is she the same women in Tom Jerry cartoon showing the leg only always ??
