One of my favorite aspects of Lisa’s Wedding is the way they reveal that Hugh isn’t wearing the cuff links. I feel like modern episodes would’ve had Homer be absolutely devastated by this and Lisa would be essentially forced to have Hugh wear them for her father’s sake. But instead this episode has Homer himself be rather understanding about it, and Lisa is the one that ends up making a big deal out of it. We see Homer willingly put aside his own hope that Hugh might carry on the family tradition, because he knows today is all about Lisa, and he doesn’t want to take away from that with his own feelings. But Lisa also understands how important this cufflinks thing was to Homer, so her actively making that sacrifice of her own happiness because that happiness would conflict with her relationship with Homer and the rest of the Simpsons. They’re two short scenes, but they’re incredibly reminiscent of classic Homer and Lisa episodes: basically, Homer sacrifices something he wants to give Lisa something that’ll make her happy, but Lisa instead decides she doesn’t want that happiness if it means more trouble on her father.

Here's my list for Season 7: 10. Who shot Mr. Burns pt 2 - Not as funny or atmospheric as part 1 but good because of its scale and pace. 9. King Sized Homer - Not super funny imo but the premise and execution is really clever. 8. A Fish Called Selma - Phil Hartman is amazing. 7. Mother Simpson - Doesn't hit me as hard as the other feels episodes of this season, but still really good. Almost feels like a season 6 episode 6. Bart on the Road - The humor is a bit sparse but I love it because of the sense it gives of how professional of a fenagler Bart is. 5. Raging Abe Simpson and his Grumbling Grandson in the Curse of the Flying Hellfish - The Bart & Grandpa relationship is one of my favorites in the show. Also why Barthood is my favorite Jean-solo episode. 4. Marge be not Proud - This season is so good at feels episodes it's crazy. 3. Bart Sells his Soul - A perfect sample episode for what makes Season 7 and 8 special and different from the rest. 2. Summer of 4 ft 2 - imo a better Lisa episode than Lisa's Substitute, and probably my favorite feels episode. 1. 22 Short Films about Springfield - I love stuff that makes you feel like the world is alive beyond what you're seeing and this episode is literally just that. It gives the sense that in the world of Springfield there is perfectly scripted comedy going on everywhere all at once and I find that kind of exhilarating. Just realized Season 7 has a lot of really really good Bart episodes.
I really liked "The PTA Disbands" I thought it was a great episode that shows the Edna/Seymour dynamic and kind of... helped with their eventual hookup in Season 8. It gave the two supporting characters the spotlight and, aside from "Bart gets a Z" is the only episode to heavily feature Edna, without it being an episode about her complicated love life. Sure, as Springfield's resident flirt, she'd bound to get a couple of episodes focussing on her relationships but it's nice to see other glimpses into her personality as well. This one also shows how much she genuinely cares about her job, despite being very cynical and depressed a lot of the time due to other aspects of her life.
Bart Vs. Australia is one of my favorite Season 6 episodes. The visual gags when Bart calls all the different places in the Southern Hemisphere are gold, Homer pronouncing Uruguay as "U-r-gay," most of the Australian people like the Prime Minister, Tobias and Bruno Drundridge, Knifey-Spoony Crocodile Dundee guy, and Evan Conover and Avril Ward are some of the best one off characters ever, and the Australian flag with the booting are hilarious!
I feel like this is such a difficult set of episodes to rank since they're all just so consistently good, you did an amazing job! And yeah, tree house of horror V is just one of the best episodes of the series, period.
how come he eliminated lisa on ice and round' springfield before a star is burns or two dozen and one greyhounds?....not to hate on those 2 episodes but they are like 19th and 20th on my ranking for this season at best...they are not great episodes on rewatch especially...
My favorite scene in the whole season is when everyone is stuck in Flanders’s bomb shelter, and Moe suggests they play a game. I have no idea what the hell the noise he made was, but it was one that only Moe could make.
I absolutely love bart of darkness, I would definitely have included it. Great jokes and I love the shift in tone after bart is confined to his room. I never found the ending all that great though
Love love love your channel! I listen to it all the time at work, and it reignited my love for "The Simpsons" after I had stopped watching. Looking forward to season 7, one of my personal favorites!
This is probably the hardest season to rank. I've been watching a lot of old Simpsons during the quarantine and out of the 25 episodes in season 6, at least 20 of them are bangers.
I just wanted to say, that the other night I needed some videos to put on while I was lying down with a headache and wanted to listen to something, and your videos were perfect. Your voice and the music you use is so great, so thanks for making that easier for me!
Two things: I was hoping you'd make a pandemic referral during Bart's Comet and lo and behold, you delivered! Lmao Secondly, speaking of the pandemic, if there's one thing I'm grateful for, it's the potential quarantining you may be taking part in to give you time for these videos. Keep cranking them out, they're awesome!!
I love how the background music for the "Who Shot Mr. Burns: Part 1" segment is the "Simpsons Mysteries" theme song as "Who REALLY Shot Mr. Burns" is your longest running Simpsons mystery. It fits rather well.
I love Lisa’s Wedding! I remember that when I first saw this episode, I almost thought that Lisa and Hugh were a great match. Over the years I have come to see how flimsy they really are. I totally do also respect the ending. I will always love the episode for how iconic it really is! Now I always cheer on Homer and Lisa! But when I was very bummed when Lisa’s wedding got ruined. Bart of Darkness is also a real classic and definitely deserves more love!
Good call on the atmosphere of Who Shot Mr. Burns Part 1. The quiet, eerie shot of the wind blowing open the dug up box is one of the most interesting shots in the whole series.
I love your retrospectives and top 10s, they're so well made that I find myself watching them over and over again. Can't wait for your take on the other seasons of the golden age!
Never really disputed one of your rankings before but "The football! His groin!" "On closer inspection these are loafers.", "Truly you are the king of kings!", "Excellent.", "Just hook it to my vain!" and of course, "Don't cry for me, I'm already dead."
My Top 10 Simpsons Season 6 Episodes: 10. Sideshow Bob Roberts: I have to say I do like this take on American politics and the fact that it is yet another stellar Bart and Lisa mystery to take down Sideshow Bob who becomes a fraudulent mayor of Springfield. It is well-written and there are some standout jokes throughout. 9. Homer Badman: This is an interesting take on how the media can make someone (Homer in this case) look bad even though he is misunderstood all throughout. Love the "Rock Bottom" segments and the Candy Convention. Rowdy Roddy Peeper is one of the best jokes i've ever heard. Top Tier Episode. 8. Bart vs. Australia: Any episode that has the Simpson Family traveling out of Springfield is a great plot in of itself. But the set-up to the main plot is a hilarious romp. Homer talking to the guard bits and Bart mooning the country stand out to me a lot here. Lisa and Marge get some good bits too traveling Australia. 7. Itchy and Scrachy Land: Another travel themed episode but this time The Simpsons go to a Theme Park. The Bort Joke is on another level, Bart harassing the Itchy costumes is hilarious and the ending with the murdering Itchy and Scratchy Robots was an iconic moment of the series. 6. Homie the Clown: Act 1 steals the show in this one with the new billboard day gag and Homer thinking of clowns all the time. Every joke in the Clown College bit sticks and the ending with the Unicycle track works. Great all-around episode. 5. Lisa's Wedding: My Favorite Flash Forward episode of the series. Every moment with the Future Simpsons and Lisa's boyfriend is hilarious. The wedding is well-done and it's always nice to see what the Simpsons kids would be like as adults. 4. Bart's Girlfriend: Another one of my childhood favorites. Every scene Jessica Lovejoy is in she steals the spotlight and it's cool to see a female, more extreme version of Bart rivaling him. Another underrated moment is the Groundskeeper Willie bit. 3. And Maggie Make Three: This is a classic episode exploring a different dynamic with Homer and Maggie's relationship. As it shows events from 2 years before the series began with Homer getting a dream job at the bowling alley. Homer finding out Marge is having another baby is another iconic moment. "Do It For Her" is one of the best endings to an episode in the show's history. 2. Treehouse of Horror V: This is the literal gold mine of all Treehouse of Horrors, ever. I probably will never put another Treehouse as high as this entry in their annual series. The Shinning is gold all the way through. Time and Punishment is a hilarious (while simultaneously having an eerie feel towards it) romp, and the Nightmare Cafeteria segment is probably the scariest bit in their entire run and it's absolutely excellent. Special mention goes to the end credit bit too. 1. Lisa On Ice: Top 5 episode of all time for me. I love the Bart vs. Lisa plotline with the hockey games and them trying to one-up each other and then have probably the sweetest ending to ANY Simpsons episode in the entire series with the Bart and Lisa penalty shot ending. Top Tier.
That was great that he did that! "If you don't your Roman numerals, you may not be able to figure out what year certain movies came out." And also the Adrian's revenger rocky joke was great later in the episode.
its amazing how this one season has a few episodes in it that could make good for the finale for the entire show three in total Maggie Makes 3 Bart's Comet and Lisa's Wedding
My theory is Time and Punishment explains why the characters never age and they are on a shifting timeline, and would explain why the Treehouse of Horror episodes are self contained segments.
You should do a Simpsons Histories for Scott Christian. I never realized there was a second news anchor until I recently rewatched the series(first nine seasons) on dvd. I don't know where to put suggestions, so I'll put this here.
Most of mine don't even hide it. Its certainly interesting from an outsider's perspective. And I've now gotten terminology ingrained that I use all the time. It's hard explaining Kayfabe to some people you know?
Aside from the clip show, season 6 is probably my favourite of them all. Even the Santa's Little Helper episode is hilarious. I have absolutely no idea what my top 10 would be, it's probably be similar to yours, but I'd definitely find room for Lisa on Ice.
I honestly feel that mmm homer is the modern simpsons equivalent to nightmare cafeteria. Both have some good humor but have heavy emphasis on the horror and creepiness. That and both are literally the best segment for their given era. Nightmare cafeteria for the past and mmm homer for the modern era. Mmm homer even uses that old warning gag they did for the old treehouse of horror episodes.
Can you please make a video about the episode Simpson and Delilah? I want to hear your thoughts about why Carl became Homer's assistant. He obviously didn't need the money. Seems like he had a crush on Homer, but how did he even find out about the job opening? Did he have a crush on him before he applied? I like the episode but I especially enjoyed the joke of Homer burning the dollar bill.
Season 6 is definitely my favourite overall. I would have to say that my two favourite episodes of the series are 'Two Dozen and One Greyhounds' (I'm a massive Disney fan, so this is a huge homage to the company) and 'Lisa's Wedding' (honestly such a sweet natured story). They might not be the most critically acclaimed episodes, but they're the ones most personal to me :)
Season 6 is my favourite season of the Simpsons, so many great and hilarious moments, almost every single joke lands the OK episodes are just little in this season and whne it's at its best, it's comedy gold
Another incredibly stacked season. Treehouse 5 truly is the best Halloween episode and it's great to see it ranked so high. I do appreciate that you went for the more emotional episodes and stronger overall stories (I really need to give Lemon of Troy another watch, I dismiss that one a lot), but it hurts to have to leave off a few really strong favourites of mine, especially I+S Land (which particularly appeals to me as a Disney Parks nerd) and PTA Disbands, (which is an absolute quote gold mine and probably gets the most mileage in my daily life! I can't tell you how many times I've said "The finger thing means the taxes"). And even though A Star Is Burns is a cheap crossover, I certainly didn't know that as a kid, and I still love it anyway! The football! The groin! It works on so many levels!
I love these so much. Been looking forward to this season since you started. Btw, are you going to go all the way to modern The Simpsons because that’ll be both amazing and, for you, potentially torturous
Season 6 is a great one by memory it is my favorite of the bunch. But I will know for sure soon when I get around to reviewing it for my channel. I must admit I am enjoying comparing my thoughts on these episode and seasons to yours as i go.

"I thought the blood got off on the second floor" lmao. Oh and the "This is indeed a very disturbing universe" maggie bit. If Simpsons were tea it would have been brewed perfectly at this episode
Is the cat burglar one in season 6? I don’t know why that episode gets no love. I think it is HILARIOUS... “oh my god, underage kids drinking without a permit” is just amazing alone, but moments later when they pan over to homer trying to stop them, he’s instead drinking and being encouraged to CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG... AND then zerconia ztolen headline, that’s homer corrects to say that he wasn’t asleep at the watch, he was drunk... and who can ever forget “oh Kent, I’d be LYING if I said my crew wasn’t committing crimes...” “Touché” And the rapmaster 2000- ITS HAMMER!!’ That is honestly one of my all time favorite episodes PERIOD, especially since I can swing a sack of doorknobs with the best of them Ps, if it’s in season 5 or 7, and I just didn’t remember it being possibly ranked in the season 5 rankings, forgive me, and never mind... but go back and watch that episode. It’s literally a laugh a minute (or less) episode and it’s GOOD, mostly hard belly laughs too
Dominic James Lol yeah another great line... that episode is amazing... homer’s appearance on brockmans show, where he thinks the cat burglar is marge. Then starts strangling the cameraman lol... I strongly suggest anyone reading these comments go back and watch that... STAMP COLLECTION??? Haw-haw!

Lemon of Troy is my all-time favorite episode, but that stems from my personal love of the alternate universe trope. I know Shelbyville isn't an alternate universe, but it's played the same way. Treehouse of Horror V is my favorite Treehouse of Horror.
I remember being on Usenet (alt.tv.simpsons?) and how we all hated these episodes and how the show had lost its charm. Never would have guessed these would become beloved 25-some years later.
I’m guessing from the time the episode came out that “Homie the Clown” is also a reference to the sketch show “In Living Color” and the character Homey D. Clown (which was hilarious btw, if you haven’t seen any of the sketches go check them out)

@@TheRealJims You left Lisa on Ice off the list! I demand vengeance! I want vengeance! (Marge voice)
@@toma6068 It's an bloody outrage it is
Here's my list for Season 7:
Almost feels like a season 6 episode
Summer of 4 ft 2 is incredible... and I forget which season but MILHOUSE DIVIDED is arguably top 5 of all time
@@masterrserch3971 That's season 8 :)
22 short films is easily the best Simpson episode in any season
+Agent Clyde
This.
Any opinions on Homer the Smithers?
The visual gags with the member of Parliament and the president was so funny I didnt fully understand as a kid 😅
Your use of the Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door intro music is stellar. Great list to boot.
2:57 TheRealJims must be part of the No Homers Club cause this is my number one favorite episode of Season 6.
Same it’s my favorite of the season too
My favorite scene in the whole season is when everyone is stuck in Flanders’s bomb shelter, and Moe suggests they play a game. I have no idea what the hell the noise he made was, but it was one that only Moe could make.
It was a baby ox
"Hold on, children! I'm coming to rescue the lot of ya! AAGGH! Ach, I'm bad at this."
Probably my favourite ToH moment ever.
"Dad! Your hand is jammed in the toaster!"
Lemon of Troy is hands down the best episode of this season. So many good jokes, a great adventure and incredible rewatchabiliy.
Lmao
Secondly, speaking of the pandemic, if there's one thing I'm grateful for, it's the potential quarantining you may be taking part in to give you time for these videos. Keep cranking them out, they're awesome!!
My favorite is Lisa on Ice, the sibling hockey episode. "Kill, Bart!"/"Kill Bart", "I'm just going to [do x] and if you get hit it's YOUR fault"
The "it's your own fault" part is one of my favourite sequences.
I love how the background music for the "Who Shot Mr. Burns: Part 1" segment is the "Simpsons Mysteries" theme song as "Who REALLY Shot Mr. Burns" is your longest running Simpsons mystery. It fits rather well.
"I bet Smingers did it"
Who Really Shot Mr Burns Part 50 coming eventually
"And Maggie makes three" is the absolute best episode of the series. It's funny and heartwarming.
I think 'A Star is Burns' deserves to be in the top 10 just because of the boo-urns jokes. Also '#V: Lemon of Troy' lol
Good call on the atmosphere of Who Shot Mr. Burns Part 1. The quiet, eerie shot of the wind blowing open the dug up box is one of the most interesting shots in the whole series.
Cant believe "the PTA disbands" isnt in the Top10. Its probably my favorite Episode of all time
C'mon in order to include that one we'd have to raise taxes
Not including The PTA Disbands? Oh, you better believe that's a paddlin'!
“So this is what it feels like when doves cry”
On closer inspection, this list is loafers
the fact he has lisa on ice bart's girlfriend and round springfield so low is straight disrespectful
Can’t wait for your analysis of Season 7 - absolute peak Simpsons
I just wanna say I really enjoy this series/"yt channel?" The way you format everything and the foloow through is just pleasant.
Her: "Oh yea baby, whisper it in my ear"
TheRealJims: "Who else could have shot Mr. Burns?"
It's a secret.
You put so much effort into these videos, I find myself disagreeing with you, hearing what you have to say and then completely changing my mind :D
"The portrayal of the Republican Party in 'Sideshow Bob Roberts' is over the top"...
2021: "Hold my beer..."
When ''A star is Burns'' makes the bottom of the list, you know you have a legendary season in your hands...
for me its like 20th...thats how good this season is...
This is the hardest season to give a definitive top 10 to. Every episode is near perfect.
I love your retrospectives and top 10s, they're so well made that I find myself watching them over and over again. Can't wait for your take on the other seasons of the golden age!
Honestly, Freemasons are just a fancy men's club. Members are generally relatively wealthy, so they have some local influence that way, but that's it.
Never really disputed one of your rankings before but "The football! His groin!" "On closer inspection these are loafers.", "Truly you are the king of kings!", "Excellent.", "Just hook it to my vain!" and of course, "Don't cry for me, I'm already dead."
How does Jims sleep at night? Probably on top of a pile of money with many beautiful ladies.
My Top 10 Simpsons Season 6 Episodes:
Top Tier.
Beautiful Easter egg using the V for 5. Goodness gracious I love this channel for how damn intelligent some of the humor is!
Finally somebody else who likes homie the clown
Very excited for the season 7 retrospective, which has to be Troy McLure's best season!
I love it when Homer quits and he literally burns the bridge behind him on his way out.
I found this channel recently and found a new weird love for the simpsons thank you
Dude you dropped the ball on the ice hockey episode! That episode was gold! Nuff said!
Worked himself into a shoot? I have a theory 90% of youtubers I watch are wrestling fans who hide their power levels
For real, we're all 90s kids. :D
kayfabe
It was a work shoot
Most of mine don't even hide it. Its certainly interesting from an outsider's perspective. And I've now gotten terminology ingrained that I use all the time. It's hard explaining Kayfabe to some people you know?
Aside from the clip show, season 6 is probably my favourite of them all. Even the Santa's Little Helper episode is hilarious.
I have absolutely no idea what my top 10 would be, it's probably be similar to yours, but I'd definitely find room for Lisa on Ice.
Thanks for posting this. It made my day.
This is what we the people need in uncertain times like these
Thanks
My neck hurts from agreeing with you so much....
Jims, in this channel we obey the laws of thermodynamics!
I spent years looking for the movie that fog that turns people inside out reference was about before realizing it was a Simpsons original.
I love your channel Jim’s, your analyses are always quality, and your editing and vocals are always great.
Please do season 7!
Bart's Girlfriend will be number 1 in my head. Ned singing in the church is still one of the funniest scenes
"Bart vs Australia" is one of my personal favourite episodes ever.
Next to "Mountain of Madness", but below "You Only Move Twice".
“Homer worked himself into a shoot” brother
I love The PTA Disbands so much it's just a blast. I am personally offended it wasn't in the top 10
Season 6 is my favourite season of the Simpsons, so many great and hilarious moments, almost every single joke lands the OK episodes are just little in this season and whne it's at its best, it's comedy gold
The whole list, I was wondering where Treehouse V was. I never expected it to be #1, but you definitely convinced me.
This season’s Treehouse is my favorite in the entire show. The Shinning is my favorite segment in all of Treehouse of Horror.
Season 6 is a great one by memory it is my favorite of the bunch. But I will know for sure soon when I get around to reviewing it for my channel. I must admit I am enjoying comparing my thoughts on these episode and seasons to yours as i go.
It’s so bizarre. I just got finished playing Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and I heard the background music to “And Maggie Makes Three”...
Nice :)
Thought I was watching one of your videos from years ago till you said the thing about toilet paper lmao
edit: yeees, glad you ranked TOH #1 too, that shining parody is just perfection all the way through. "I thought the blood got off on the second floor" lmao. Oh and the "This is indeed a very disturbing universe" maggie bit. If Simpsons were tea it would have been brewed perfectly at this episode
1:33 Yet another point in the episode’s favor
‘No beer and no tv make Homer go something something’. ‘Go crazy’. ‘Don’t mind if I doooo’.
Like my favourite treehouse of horror episode.
TheRealJims literally just did a wrestling reference.
Amazing.
AND then zerconia ztolen headline, that’s homer corrects to say that he wasn’t asleep at the watch, he was drunk...
and who can ever forget “oh Kent, I’d be LYING if I said my crew wasn’t committing crimes...”
“Touché”
And the rapmaster 2000- ITS HAMMER!!’
That is honestly one of my all time favorite episodes PERIOD, especially since I can swing a sack of doorknobs with the best of them
Ps, if it’s in season 5 or 7, and I just didn’t remember it being possibly ranked in the season 5 rankings, forgive me, and never mind... but go back and watch that episode. It’s literally a laugh a minute (or less) episode and it’s GOOD, mostly hard belly laughs too
'Somehow much more vertical than usual'
Dominic James Lol yeah another great line... that episode is amazing... homer’s appearance on brockmans show, where he thinks the cat burglar is marge. Then starts strangling the cameraman lol... I strongly suggest anyone reading these comments go back and watch that...
STAMP COLLECTION??? Haw-haw!
It was season five I think but also a excellent episode
@@carlyskolnik296 yeah its season 5, I just checked... well still, I saw him reference it kinda sorta in this video and i got confused... i mean, seasons 4-9 are all a blur cuz they're all so good lol... but i DO see on other lists amd stuff, that HOMER THE VIGILANTE doesnt get as much praise and love as it deserves... cant remember if this channel did or not, just saying, I remember a lot of things I read or watched not putting it on top 10 lists or whatever
Imagine that the Shinning is only 6-7 minutes long. All that story crammed into that!
Just another reminder that season 6 is full of brilliant Simpson episodes
Thank you for the good work, enjoy the content
I’m guessing from the time the episode came out that “Homie the Clown” is also a reference to the sketch show “In Living Color” and the character Homey D. Clown (which was hilarious btw, if you haven’t seen any of the sketches go check them out)
