I think every character has a costume from 5, 6, and 7, which really just goes to show how influential those particular seasons were considering the game came out in 2003 and didn't have a long development cycle at all

its not as funny as seasons 3-6 but you know what its a better version of season 2 and 8...its a good mix....its got heart and neat story telling..it feels like the show is still solid enough..it may not be a 9.7/10 anymore consistently but its still above an 8.2 usually so its good enough

@@razkable I totally agree. Actually, season 7 reminds me a lot of season 3 and some of season 4. It has more heart than seasons 5-6 but way less gags. It really depends on your preference - jokes or story. And I think I just prefer seasons 4-6

Season 7 is definitely the best season of the show. It pretty much takes what made earlier seasons great, and built on them. Not to mention this season is great with balancing out humor with heart. Earlier seasons did that too, but this season had Mother Simpson which I consider the Jurassic Bark of The Simpsons. I think one of the biggest reasons I love Season 7 so much is because it has what also made Futurama so great with being hilarious while also being very earnest while tugging at the heartstrings as well as adding emotional depth to the characters. Another great retrospective from you Jim, and I look forward to seeing what episodes end up in the top 10 list.

This might be my favorite season from Lisa period. Lisa’s Wedding was the best single episode portrayal of Lisa and this season seems to have built off of that to make Lisa who she is now while also incorporating how she was at the beginning.

  • @EmployeeAMillion

Season 6 may be my favourite, but I still love 7 for a lot of reasons. I don’t think it was the best with the outlandish stories, but it always felt like it was made by people who loved The Simpsons. Loved the characters, and loved the comedy. And that’s why I think episodes like Lisa the Vegetarian and Marge Be Not Proud are so iconic. I know they’re not the most universally loved episodes for one reason or another, but they’re honestly warmer and more meaningful than the earlier heart-heavy stories.

I once got in an argument with a guy who claimed that Season 7 wasn’t the “golden years” anymore and that the writers had already started to lose their touch. I can totally understand if someone prefers the more grounded atmosphere of earlier seasons, but holy shit Season 7 is such a machine-gun of bangers that I can’t comprehend why anybody would diss it this way.

I think season six is my favorite, but season seven has Bart Sells His Soul, which is my favorite episode. I see what you're saying about it being sort of an homage to season three. As a kid, I was convinced that A Fish Called Selma was a much older episode, probably from season three or four. It took some getting used to once I get the DVDs and I realized it actually came pretty late in The Simpson's golden years.

Despite season 7 being modelled after season 3, I think it's more accurate to say that it fits the mold of season 2's similar sarcastic, dramatic, and sentimental stories. Homer especially feels like his season 2 self here, being portrayed as ignorant and well meaninged, rather then outright stupid and aggressive in most scenarios.

Every classic Simpsons season has 2 universally loved episodes:
for season 2 it was Lisa's substitute and Bart gets an F, for season 3 it was Homer at the bat, and Mr. Lisa goes to Washington, for season 4 it was Marge vs The Monorail, for season 5 it was Rosebud and Cape Feare, for season 6 it was Lemon of Troy and Who Shot Mr. Burns? Part 1, Season 8 was You Only Move Twice and Homer's Enemy. There's one exception though: Season 7. It had Who Shot Mr. Burns? Part 2, Bart Sells His Soul, Marge Be Not Proud, 22 Short Films About Springfield, and Summer of 4 Ft. 2.

Love season 7. I agree it has its “modern” moments. Back in the day Homer getting fat and meeting his mother felt like very “new” concepts, as did the whole publicity around the shooting of Mr. Burns. That said, the opening of Bart Sells His Soul is such an iconic moment for me and is about as classic as it gets (and Milhouse is incredible in that episode). Also, Flying Hellfish is such an amazing action/adventure episode, it’s one of those fleeting moments of greatness, highlighted more by the fact that it’s practically the only one of its kind. One of my favorite seasons for sure.

i think S7 is probably the most iconic one just because of 22 short films. even ignoring steamed hams as probably the best joke written in the entire series to the point the meme isn't even truly dead, it's probably the one people are quickest to jump to when it involves really funny episodes pure comedy episodes. I mean i made friends with a guy at work who was 30 years older than me just because we referenced the nelson bit in the episode. i dont think its a stretch to say its an episode that defines the series as a whole.
