1984 was when the entire market came crashing down, Coleco still did quite well in 1983. The following year, well, the entire industry went down in flames, so there's that.
I didn't start buying Coleco until it was discounted I was able to buy the systems and games cheap at that point and enjoyed it until for a year or two . I believe it's at my sister's which is the home we grew up in.
I did not collect ColecoVision back in the day. I had an Atari 7800. I was in college and one of the dorm guys had the CV, so we could play with each other's systems! LOL
Unfortunately I never had the Colecovision experience back in the day like you did. All my friends and I had were Atari 2600s. I do remember being amazed by the ads for Colecovision though.
The Colecovision was special system, It was definitely a nice upgrade over the 2600 which I never liked anyway. I had the 2600 add on module thingy but I didn't play much with that. I grew up with Coleco, Odyssey 2, Apple II, and NES... my earliest systems.. ^_^
I'm on Team 5200 myself. Probably helps that I played the Atari 5200 close to its original release. I didn't get a ColecoVision until I found one at a yard sale in 1992, after I was spoiled on the NES. That much hyped "arcade faithful" port of Donkey Kong was anything but, with dull graphics and missing play mechanics. It's better than the Atari 2600 version of Donkey Kong, sure, but quite far behind the NES version (which itself was not perfect).
I just bought my first colecovision after 40 years. Always wanted one and now I have a cib one with the Atari expansion. Really enjoying it

Me and two of my friends had one. One had turbo and the action controllers. I had the expansion module 1 and roller controller.
Your vision is our vision--ColecoVision!
Coleco was one of those consoles that very few had. I did have one, only Atari, Intellivision back in those days.
Love my colecovision. Substantial upgrade from atari. Such a thrill to play arcade like games even w the stubby

Don't remember Coleco since I had the Atari 2600 and my friend had a Commador 64

great stories, love the new content
Thank you!
No one in my circle had a ColecoVision. It seemed to high end to us and our parents.

Love the 5200! Pengo for president! 😁
Colecovision was awesome compared to the Atari 2600. I remember people literally gasping when they demonstrated games at my local department stores.
