@@SuperSneakySteve That's better than the $1200 they want for the K6s. It is at least in the ballpark with the S&W Model 642, and less than the Ruger offerings. That's where they need to be.
Nice lineup of revolvers,,,,, I have a Colt six shot aluminum frame that is a pretty light revolver. I did carry it for many years, but in inside the waistband. Thanks for sharing those kimber’s.
The Cobra almost fits the bill but it's too heavy. S&W is unlikely to develop a new mid sized revolver frame. They probably sell way more plastic pistols than revolvers these days. I have high hopes for a slightly larger LCR from Ruger.
Smith, Colt and Ruger have nothing to worry about. Here’s my brand new K6S. It didn’t come with a firing pin th-cam.com/video/zW6hFL4NGhg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PTNkpv_awmzFQV9H
Nice Kimber and smith and Wesson revolvers. I have a couple colt six shot revolver’s that are aluminum frame one is shot out and cannot be fired anymore. The other ones hanging in there. Thanks for showing the differences between them.
I carry a 2.5” S&W 686+ in my front pants pocket. It’s way more comfortable than hanging it on my belt, and fits in my Haggar Classic Fit slacks fine. I do have a 642, but rarely carry it. My speedloaders and speed strips may or may not contain .357 magnums, and I don’t want to grab a round that won’t fit. The XS does look like a very nice 6 shot revolver. 👍👍👍
New sub,. I just picked up my K6xs the other day, can't wait to get it to the range!!! Looking forward to pocket carrying it, I have a Taurus 605 & Ruger SP101 and have pocket carried them. Heavy but doable with a good belt and cargo pants/shorts but at 9 - 10 ounces lighter than those 2, the K6xs will be a great pocket carry gun and the 1 extra round is great!!!
Great comparison! How do the heights of the models compare, now that you have the boot grips installed? Everywhere I look all I can find for the height of the K6SX is the height with the original grip installed. I plan on installing a boot grip on the K6SX if I get it, but if it’s drastically taller than the 642 then I’ll be going with the 642.
The boot grips are exactly the size of the frame. So if you want to know how big they are, just take off your stock grips and look at the grip frame. Glad this helped. The Kimber rides in my pocket every day. Forget the Smith, get the Kimber!
@supersneakysteve have you seen the Slim Cowboy's not so nice review on the k6xs? Are you experiencing any quality controll issues regarding the barrel?
It was many thousands. I would buy bricks of primers and boxes of bullets and that was my only center fire handgun for a long time. It's still working even with very weak rifling and I did put in a new hammer and sear. My estimate would be around 6k-8k rounds.
Hear some people talking about it not taking .357’s. It does take +P and frankly with the +P Defensive Carry ammo available and the bear that a small frame .357 is to handle. ( Don’t give me a hard time, I shoot 45-70, 58 black powder, and my EDC’s are all 40S&W) I’m fine with carrying a 15 oz revolver vs 1 1/2 pound revolver. Probably going to mostly be a back up gun and a lite weight carry when appropriate.
It will chamber and shoot .357 Magnum just fine, but I prefer my hot loaded 38's. If I want to actually shoot .357 Magnum then I switch to my 3" SP101. It's a lot heavier but still pretty small.
If you are going to carry in the belt. Go with the K6S. The weight won't be a problem and you can step up in power. If you want to pocket carry, go with the K6XS. 38+P is good enough and the lighter weight makes it a joy to pocket.
@@SuperSneakySteve Also, from what I see, the K6S is stainless. The K6XS is Ceracoated, at least parts of it. I would rather have full stainless (except for the weight)
Question I’m kinda new to pistols and CCW, I have small hands and when I shot the air weight smith at range it wasn’t pleasant, with the extra 1 oz would you say the recoil is the same or better? I would practice with regular 38 but carry a + P
There's a night and day difference between the recoil in an Air Weight and a steel frame. Grips matter too, notice I have rubber grips on all. Wood looks good but rubber feels better under recoil. Steel guns are a pleasure to shoot.
@@SuperSneakySteve Let me ask my question another way how’s the difference between the SW 642 air weight and the kimber K6xs in recoil? I know that they are about 1oz difference with Kimber being the 1 oz heavier, I’m looking for a pocket revolver but the 642 was not pleasant to shoot, I know your hands are a bit large then mine interested in your w
If the 642 wasn't pleasant then the K6xs won't be much better. You'll want the all steel K6S for a difference you can feel. It still fits in the pocket but a bit too heavy for me to pocket carry. It makes a great inside the waste ban gun. Carry is all about compromise and you'll have to decide what factors are important to you and what you can let slide.@@victorinclan3359
WARNING! Many years ago, I purchased a Kimber K6s and it was one of those that ended up with a broken firing-pin. I returned it to Kimber and they replaced the pin. Recently I bought a Kimber K6xs and loved it until after 120 rounds of +p (and only dry-firing it using snap-caps) you guessed it, the firing-pin broke. Now, I was worried about using my original K6s with that pin Kimber replaced. I found a website (TK Custom) that makes upgraded replacement firing-pins for the Kimber K6s and purchased a replacement pin and had it installed by a gunsmith. I now have that gun working fine and stopped worrying on the reliability factor. Because of the broken pin in the K6xs, I will be returning to purchase another pin (I will not be returning the gun to Kimber) for the K6xs. I am not the only person with a broken firing-pin on my new K6xs, there is another firing-pin break with a K6xs talked about at Buds Guns in the “community” section. I feel safer buying a new well-made pin and paying a gunsmith to put it in.
I see you cut and pasted this comment in several K6XS videos on youtube. What firing pin did you buy to replace the original pin? What did your gunsmith charge?
@@lanedexter6303 Yes once I had the opportunity to shoot a 12 from a guy on a range. He had it loaded with wadcutters. Recoil was very low almost like a 22. I dont understand why S&W dont offer any K frames with aluminum frames.
At one point I say .452 I meant to say .358 😄
It’s all about that sixth chamber!
Sure is! 20% MOAR AMMOZ!
Good comparison. The even better news is the MSRP for K6XS is down to earth.
Yes, I paid $570 for mine. Price should drop over time but I couldn't wait.

Hopefully Smith, Colt and Ruger will all wake up and come out with a pocket 6 shot snub nose soon. Competition is good!

😅 heavy front pocket can’t beat the 686
12:50 Maybe I’m missing something, but they look exactly the same size. The K6s just looks like you’re holding it a quarter inch further forward.
It's actually shorter. I took my calipers to them. If you'd like I can post the actual lengths later.
That was an excellent review. You know your stuff.
Thanks for the kind words.

That's kind of you to say. My videos aren't well made but I understand these guns pretty well. Thanks for your comment.
I found that the crimson trace DAO laser grips didn't fit on the XS
That's good info to know. Thanks.
From what I 'hear' the trigger on the Kimber is way better than the Smith.
Yes, out of the box it's no contest. Kimber all the way.
I did the exact same thing, switch to the Crimson Trace boot grip.
Good choice and thanks for watching.
Kimber has a winner❤
Nice review. Tnx. One comment. I’ve been told by Crimson Trace that the K6S Red Dot Grips will not fit the K6XS.

You made a good purchase and I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.
Cast bullets must go through a sizing die. A bullet dropped from a mold is usually not the correct diameter.

S&W still looks the best but it its hard to beat having 1 round more with the same weight!

@supersneakysteve have you seen the Slim Cowboy's not so nice review on the k6xs? Are you experiencing any quality controll issues regarding the barrel?
I haven't seen his video. My gun has functioned flawlessly. The only thing that could make it better would be night sights and maybe a better finish.
How many rounds did you have through the 642 before it broke and the barrel was shot out?
It was many thousands. I would buy bricks of primers and boxes of bullets and that was my only center fire handgun for a long time. It's still working even with very weak rifling and I did put in a new hammer and sear. My estimate would be around 6k-8k rounds.

Does crimson trace make a laser grip for the XS?
Yes, they have 3 variants the LG-950, LG-951 and LG-952.
Why not just carry the k6s with 38s with the ability to go 357 if you had too?

Weight.. and twice the $
Is there a notable difference in size for jframe vs k6xs?
Not really. The cylinder is a wee bit bigger but that's all. The K6XS is my everyday pocket gun.

What grip is on the k6xs?
Factory boot grip.

Compare it to a S&W Model 12.
The k frame is much bigger.
True. Weight is fairly close. Wish I had a M12 now. Medium frame is nicer to shoot. But a small frame conceals better.@@Gieszkanne
