I grew up in the 1960s, and we were poor. About the only thing I got for Christmas was Army Men and Matchbox Cars. Until I was 9 my Army Men killed my Cowboys and Indians. At 9 I finally got 12 Japanese and about 30 Germans. They still got wiped out about 10 times each because I had about 200 Timmee plus a couple of Timmee Tanks. And I'm 66. I buy for my Grandson. Oh, and I had everything against me, I owned a Mom and Pop Comic Book Store for 24 years and in 1994 I started Collecting Action Figures. My Wife collected Barbie's.
@@theplasticcommanderWe really didn't have Toy Stores. We got toys at Woolworths, Newberry's, and Ben Franklin stores. I was like a Junior in High School when Walmart came in.
Ah, my favorite toy at Ben Franklin was the Jeep with the machine gun in the back. BMC has them. Oh, and the way to tell the 1960s Timmee from the modern ones, the guy I always called the Sergeant, he had a grenade ready to throw, and he was therefore useful, the modern one has an open hand, I call that version the arm waver, and he's useless. In fact there are 4 useless figures, the Arm Waver, the Crawler, the Minesweeper (no kid uses the Minesweeper), and 90% of the Radiomen. You only need 1 for every 30-50 soldiers. Useful: M-60 Machine Gunner Bazooka Man Flamethrower Kneeling M-16 Prone M-16 Bayonet Man Pistol Man (Lieutenant) Mortar Man always in the rear as he's most of your Artillery.
From what I read of the Bergen army men, they originally had WW1 doughboy style helmets in the beginning, and when the US entered WW2, they modified the mold to make the helmets look more like M1 helmets. They could be the very first toy soldiers to depict WW2 US troops!
Your videos are what I look forward to every month. You know how to be funny. I really love your channel. Bergen is a city in Norway 🇳🇴 I've been there.
I love your channel I also love Toy Army Men. I want to grow my Army Men collection but I have to wait till official good brand Army Men come to my city. I love to Find Army Men at Thrift stores
Interesting comparison Plastic Commander. So do you think the paint chipped or rubbed off in the last 86 years, or they didn't paint the whole figure? What do you think the old set is worth these days? The new set is certainly good value. Good luck with your personal conquest. Let us know how that goes. Cheers, Gary
I am 2008 and My Parents were buying me Fake Chinesse plastic Army men, they broke like paper so i learned how to value it more, i have found Originals just in 2021 at christmas as a present, there were originals found 2024 in basement that were there for 7 years but i found them when homecoming
