This interview is spot on with a number of critical points that are all to offen overlooked in our industry today. All to often in this and related industries a mentality has taken hold that there is a narrowly defined "way to do things", often based on a lack of foundational knowledge and broad experience, that results in standards and guidelines being misinterpreted as checklists and thereby giving advantage to the bad actor.
First and foremost to be truly successful in our profession we need to be educators first. Second we need to engage and connect with those we intend to educate in a way that makes them want to learn and apply the knowledge we impart to improve their security. Third and critically foundational is that security professionals should embody the hacker spirit which is driven by the desire to learn, understand, innovate, and impart this knowledge in a way that inspires others to do the same. Thereby collectively improving the world around them.
