No, the community forgave the store owner because he thought he was being robbed. He didn't know what was going on. He was later interviewed by Channel 7 news and he was crying and stated that if he knew he would have locked the doors and called police. My brother in law was murdered in 2012. He was 20 years old. I don't know any details about what happened, except that a firearm was used. The murder remains unsolved. It totally changed my in-laws family. The family went to pieces after he died.

We can't fault the store owner because those were gang members, and people fear retaliation. I remember the first crime, to see it makes my heart race. The five of them should have gotten a sleep sentence. The teenager wasn't even who they were looking for, not that anyone else should have been caught up, but they go on to gang bang for 25 years in prison. I think the store was forced to go out of business after that by the neighborhood residents. The cops should have lost their badges.

The owner was crying& said, he didn't know what was going on& though he was being robbed. He said, if he knew the boy was innocent he would've lock the door& call the police. The store closed after the community became furious.

For the first kid, the first sign of help came from the ladies upstairs who decided to record and talk in Spanish instead of calling 911 on what they were witnessing. Second potential help came from the store owners.
