- The Bow Tie Vet Guy takes the case of Benny who is excessively sneezing, a common reaction to there being something up his nose. Dr. Mike and veterinary technician, Jessica "Jesse" Johann, put Benny under and begin a search through his nose to extract the foxtail.

Becky Giles yeah when doggies wake up from anesthesia, their tongues do that. I always joked with the head vet at the hospital that I work at whenever the anesthesia is ready "we got the happy juice ready doc"

Tempani dogs are like little kids sometimes.
Dogs use their noses WAY more than any other sense. It's kind of a surprise they don't get MORE things stuck up there!! Thanks for watching!!
The Bow Tie Vet Guy hi their sir...please excuse my ignorance I don't know what a fox tail is can u explain...i mean I know what a FOX TAIL is but I'm not sure what that term means...does it mean foreign body.i have had dogs all my life and never came across anything like this.....by the way u do a grand job for these animals sir I take my hat off to u.
Stuart Campbell it's a spikelets of certain types of grass and the seed of the grass. It's called a fox tail because it resembles a foxes tail. It can be from a bushy patch of grass or the flower of grass that is dry. Most likely will not see them in a well groomed lawn.

My cat got one in her eye. It was a big one. And it went under her eye ball and deep so it didn't puncture but we couldn't see why she was closing one eye. She let my mom pull her eye open and my mom saw the tip. So I held my kitty cat close and gave her kisses while my mom pulled it out and we got the whole thing and her eye started watering but she meowed and purred and loved on us for days for saving her hahaha my noonie 😊❤️
Miss Mallory I had the same thing happen to my dog. I feel so lucky to have noticed and removed it right away. My poor puppy could have lost an eye. I'm glad our pets are okay :)

What is a foxtail?
Mama Love - a kind of long seed, that looks sort of like grain. Their rather bad on account they have 'scales' that make slip one way and only one way, so they're a nuisance to pets and children.
Pretty sure my Boxer has this right now, she's trying to blow something out of her nose with the power of 1000 suns non stop but to no avail. I feel so helpless :( Hopefully the vet can work the same magic as you for me tomorrow.
One thing's for sure, once this is sorted i'm going back to where those foxtails grow with a flamethrower and a bag of salt.

@@franklinnlsn93 I remember the vet said there's a good chance that whatever it was she's already ejected it but it likely left an abrasion inside her nose (she bled from the nose when it first happened) so it might feel like something needed to be snorted out.
Vet gave me some antihistamines and anti inflammatories to put in her food and over the next few days she gradually stopped doing it.
I reckon she was right on the money.
It's horrible when they can't tell you what's wrong 😔 but she's fine now, on the sofa snoring next to me.

My boxer hat, one suck her nose actually I just realized it was too stuck in her nose thank God I was able to step in the sunlight and see it.. you won’t be able to see it in the house I was able to get tweezers and grab that little piece without breaking and come to find out that was not one but two

My dog had a foxtail lodged in the back of his eye once! Thankfully we noticed him pawing his eye a lot and a little blood. Took him to the vet and it took him a bit to get out a 3" foxtail. We were shocked because we couldn't see anything in his eye.

My dog has had this procedure done twice! Once in Utah, once in Las Vegas. We can't escape these things. We now take extra precaution not to hike in fields and we weed our garden of those pesky things regularly. They are the worst! It only takes one sniff to get those things up their nose. The only reason I figured out what was going on is because I googled "dog violently sneezing." Untreated they can get into the dogs blood stream and cause severe damage.

I really love it when pet owners pay attention to their pets so much when they realize something is up, like sneezing.
My dog simply had his head titled to the side and was always shaking his head. Took him to the Vet and the pulled out a tuff of hair as big as that fox tail that was inside his ear canal. He said he could barely see and was happy my dog was still enough himself. Said he would of had to put my dog under if he wouldn't have been still it was so deep.
The smallest things like sneezing and shaking of the head can lead to something more severe.

my puppy had one stuck in the corner of his eye... and he's beige & white, thought it was part of his hair.. until I felt it protruding.. 300 bucks later, my baby is fine! hate those foxtails.

@@sprakful Well, the vet has to anesthetize the dog in order to remove the foxtail safely, and the anesthetic drugs can be very expensive.
@@cellogirl11rw55 the anesthetia + removal procedure of foreign object is like 130€ at my vet. But maybe it’s because europe has price regulations on medication and the us doesn’t 🙂

Wow. I’m pretty convinced that my dog has inhaled a foxtail up her nose. I took her to the veterinarian, but he didn’t look up her nose and told me her sneezing was from bad air and that she’d be bleeding if she had a foxtail up her nose. Still wish I’d asked him to check up her nose just to pacify me. After watching this video, I’m really hoping she hasn’t inhaled anything, because I’m sure the procedure costs a pretty penny (that I will pay if necessary).

@@SophiaTrevor she eventually stopped sneezing. She died a couple years ago at the age of 13. She, Garbo, had a large skin cancer that was causing her pain and discomfort and I didn’t want to put her through the stress of plastic surgery (she wouldn’t have had enough flesh to cover the wound), so I had my veterinarian put her out of her misery.

I was always taking those things out from between pet's toes. Learned to clear the foxtails before they cluttered the yard and hurt my dog and cats.
I currently started working as a veterinary assistant and I really ask myself: How and where do you find such a nice team that works so well together?

There is a product called an ounce foxtail guard that can be used on those dogs and cats it covers the head in the mesh net foxtails from going in they are a wonderful product it is called an outfox foxtail guard

Fox tails are nasty and they get into a dogs fur or in this case the nose. My dog had a fox tail in her paw that I was not aware of. After I got home 12 hours later she had chewed a large hole in her foot trying to get it out. The emergency vet thought she might of stepped on some glass, but after they went n to clean the wound and suture it they found a fox tail. They had to leave a drain in her paw so that any infection would have a place to drain.

Yikes! Foxtails really suck! I've seen some pretty bad damage from them. The worst is when you know it's in there, but can't find it. That's frustrating for everyone involved!!!
was he sneezing? how'd they know he had a fox tail in his nose? I just pulled a whole one out of my dogs paw, but he's been sneezing and coughing for weeks could he have one in his nose?
Samantha, Yes, he was sneezing. Plus the owners were on a walk with him, and he sniffed in the weeds and came up sneezing, pawing at his face, and snorting. We gave it a day to see if it was just an irritant (like dirt), but it was pretty obvious. Sometimes we aren't sure, and when we look up there, there's nothing. Just a lot of inflammation. If your dog's been sneezing for weeks, you should get him checked. Even if there isn't a foxtail up there, you could get him some relief from whatever is causing his signs.
My dog has been sneezing for about two days, I’m trying Benadryl with him I don’t think it’s a fox tail as he’s no where near them but I’m giving it another week with Benadryl and if it doesn’t stop we’re going in.

Fox trails are no joke! My dog got one in his eye when he was a puppy and if the vet hadn't gotten it out they did, eventually my dog would have suffered vision damage.

My puppy not to long ago got one extracted from her ear:/ it ruptured her ear drum but she is okay now! Just one ear flops down and the other extends out lol. Btw your dog is so cute! So glad Animals have owners like us who care to pay a lot of money to help them feel better :)

Living with a dog is a gift from the God
Today my 4th opinion vet said my dog needed a ct scan to see if he has a foxtail or grass seed in his nose or to see if it was a nasal tumor but 1300 for a ct is difficult to cough up when it could be a grass seed... Or if it is a tumor it's just the tip of the iceberg I don't see myself spending 10k on cancer treatments for my dog I love him he's 10 and my bff but gesh such hard choices. Today we did another round of antibiotics blood work and a urine sample dr testing for signs of cancer, diabetes and if he doesn't have diabetes then we start steroids tomorrow.

Ijust adopted a dog just like this one. The arl told me it,was a minature poodle. I know he isn't. Do you have any idea what breed he is? He also hangs his tongue like this dog does.

Hi! Any advice would be appreciated 🙏 I was walking my dog around some grass and dirt and he had a violent sneezing fit. it’s been 3 days and he is still sneezing lightly but more than usual for sure. he doesn’t paw at his face but sometimes he rubs it on the ground although he used to do that before. Ears are clean, one lower molar tooth has light infection that the vet gave an antibiotic for. He has light clear discharge and no other symptoms. Could it be a fox tail in his nose?? I’ve tried looking with a magnifying glass and flashlight and really can’t see anything. He is 17 and has heart disease so I don’t think this procedure is an option for him… thanks so much

Benny's Dog Memory and Thoughts:
I was at vet. Weird sting. Old McDonald had a farm in my sniffer. A big pink farm with only one plant growing. Then some big shiny metal sticks from the sky and began to poke the pink farm. Metal sticks found the one plant growing and plucked it right up and took it into the pink sky. Never to be seen again...Then I remember the vet people shaking me...Benny...Benny. I could use an extra-large biscuit for a fat dog.

How did you know it was up there...
We had a dog which was similar to that one which we had to get put down after she (Lady) got hit by a car 23 years ago,it severed her spinal cord & she lost movement in her rear legs.
Probably about 27 years ago she had a foxtail seed stuck in her neck,well,the veterinarian had to remove it then a shunt had to be fitted into her neck to drain all of the puss out !

How much did this procedure cost and how long does it take for the fox tails to go so far down their nose that they need an endoscopy?
My dog might have got a fox tail up her nose yesterday, I took her to the vets straight away, they gave her an anti inflammatory, it doesn't seem to have helped so today they just used a rigid scope which only goes about an inch in. They didn't find anything, flushed her nose (which seems to me to not be enough to get one of these buggers out), and nothing came out. I don't have much confidence in my vets after this and they said their endoscope is broken and costs about £800. Which seems like a lot to just look up the nose.

My cow used to get those in her jaw, lining the cheeks along the upper and lower jaw. Maybe fifty or more. It was so inflamed I could just reach in there with my finger and squeeze them out.
