    You said the magic words Randy, "what a good steward." One can buy this boat with loads of confidence, its so obvious this guy really loved his boat! My favored kind of episode; boats that are sort of within my budget and are not too much of a project! Wishing you the best this season and always Captain & Randy!

    Apologies to anyone not quite 'in the Christmas Spirit(s) yet.
    Thank you Capt Q and Randay. I think its fair to say that you are without equal on TH-cam. You certainly added much needed colour to my 2022 and taught me not to overlook classic yachts. To everyone. Sailors, armchair sailors and everyone else. I wish you and your families and friends an exceptionally Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year and 2023.

    Raced on an old Cal 27 back in the 80's with my skipper Jim Conner who has long passed. Boy those were the greatest days of my life... racing every Friday night in the Spring-Summer-Fall and Saturday days in the Winter in the Florida Indian River; Eau Gallie Yacht Club . Did that for about 4-5 years. Just wonderful. Thanks for being a great Skip, Jim! RIP!

    • @BrewsterMcBrewster
      @BrewsterMcBrewster 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YachtHunters Oh sorry... I edited my comment. It was in Melbourne, FL. We raced in the ECCA (East Coast Cruising Association) and included the Melbourne Yacht Club as well as the Eau Gallie YC. There was a Olympic racer, Dick Tillman, who tried to recruit me to race on his J-24 when they were taking the world by storm. He cleaned EVERBODY'S clock when he was there. RIP, Dick. I later crewed in the same place on a San Juan 32 "Eagle" and had an unbelievably good time. I'm trying to remember my Skip's name (Jeeze... he later became the EGYC Commodore) but it escapes me at the moment. "Smitty" was the first mate. He hauled me in after I fell overboard in a race. Luckily I held on to the jib sheet! LOL!

    Very nice boat. Knew he was an engineer thinker, with tech hobbits.. he did a great job.
    The cedar is an RV trick.
    In all closets too. Less mold, & smells great.
    Personally, I'm looking single person, Caribbean, cruising. But this looks sweet for a day tripper. Would be great for west coast FL sailing, (out and back).. Keys sailing...

I was not familiar with Cal until you educated me on the manufacturer and I am more than impressed. It's a lovely boat and in great shape. It's a give away at that price and won't last long on the market. And so ends the 2022 season with the best sailing channel on youtube. Best wishes and drive carefully.

    I noticed a few things:
    1. The captain's head was a bit askew while lying in the V-berth. Generally, the Captain requests a pillow, followed by a suggestion that he might nod off. That didn't happen here;
    2. While the galley layout is good, and the ice box is okay, 12 volt refrigeration would be desirable for cruising, in fact, essential, according to my wife;
    3. While readily accessible for adjustment, the main sheet traveler location would make for awkward movement from behind the helm to the companionway.
    Thanks gentlemen, for another excellent video, and remember, during the holiday season, not to over-toast your buns. ;)

      A 12v Dometic refrigerator/freezer chest would fit nicely in the Stb quarter berths. They are very efficient.

    • @rogerl7533
      @rogerl7533 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@captainrehab2047 My C&C designed, Mahone Bay built Paceship 29 has a retrofitted Novacool refrigeration unit installed in the factory icebox. The compressor, and related equipment, are, of course, not in the icebox itself. They are located in the aft portion of the engine compartment. The previous owner equipped the boat with numerous upgrades including a completely rebuilt Atomic 4, furling jib, electric windlass (which can be operated from both the bow and the cockpit) solar panels, pressurized water, deck wash-down pump, dodger, bimini and connector etc.
      Like the Captain, we're very fond of the non-pressurized alcohol stove.
      As with this Cal 29, it is a lot easier, and far less expensive, to buy a used boat with many of the upgrades/refits already done. Needless to say, there will always be more to do, as Ran-day can attest.😉

    This boat isn't a blue water cruiser and certainly not suitable for living aboard for more than 1, but it is a beautifully kept boat and one of the most turn-key, sea ready boats I've seen in a while. I could see myself spending 4 seasons on her if she had a heat source, but it would certainly be a minimalist in terms of a residence. And I think I would need to shower at least once in a while. I really liked the way the saloon is laid out and they've made excellent use of the space. I doubt this boat will be for sale much longer, she is a bargain for the right buyer. Thanks for another great video and wishing you and Randay a very happy holiday season.

  • @vidguy007

    I watch a channel that spent 7 years building a “classic Bueller” designed boat. Today the marinas are full of well equipped, older molded fiberglass hulls, with aluminum masts and stainless rigging, that are superior in every way to a wood hull with wood masts and rope rigging. That Cal 29 will out preform that home made boat in every way for eternity. You can buy a lot of boats for peanuts that can leave tomorrow and not take 7 years.

I'd be happy to write a check for this one but it might cost me a whole lot more when the wife leaves. Sea Cook wow seems twice the size of a sea swing. Don't see those often anymore, maybe on a VOR boat.
    Owner got rid of the plastic feel of the 60s-70s boats. I think a little pricey though but a nice boat. I was expecting a atomic 4 but pleased to see Yanmar

      @@YachtHunters I've spent many an hour working on Atomic 4s. Heard many years ago they were a marinized John Deere tractor motor from 1929. Lord knows if I was teaching the basics of gasoline engines I would have made it my choice.

    Just recently purchased a vessel in Annapolis Maryland , and I am curious as to why a bell is needed for the coast guards.

    • @YachtHunters
      @YachtHunters  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      to warn other vessel in low visibility like fog of your presence so they don't hit you CG Regs..certain pattern of sounds

    • @svinevitable
      @svinevitable 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is for an audible signal of "I am here!" in times of fog. No batteries to fail. The sound is piercing and carries incredibly well over water.

      @@RickMentore The rocking of the boat will ring the bell ... old school stuff. Nowadays I suppose you could interface your horn with AIS or radar ....:-)
