Load looks like a nightmare. If you get one again; run dunnage (4x4) right down the middle of each coil and then strap down on top of wood. Then chain the front 2 coils and the back 2 coils together for safety. 🤙

67 here, driving long before the legal age. Many pets along the way, (have to have to maintain sanity) would do their business on command when I had to. The odd emergency pullover, but they always told me first!!
When I was flat bedding I got a bunch of carpet remnants from a rug and flooring outlet to keep my straps and tarps from being eaten by the load and to protect the load from chain damage. Worked most of the time, but still lost a couple of tarps across Wyoming on weird ass freight like used uncrated CNC machines.

Go to a firehouse near you and ask them if they have any out of service hose you can have. You can cut it whatever length you want and it works great on loads like that.
Used carpet torn out from a remodel as well. Carpet squares of 14" is great to protect form abrasion spots, not always fantastic for sharp corners, but the sides between coil centers could have used it
Girl i give you and all bulk drivers props. I drive a little 26 foot box truck and all of those different loads would make me so paranoid. Much love and respect. Glad you made it safe. Love the adorable pups.
You are a great driver. You do a great job. I would go trucking with you any time. I drove for 30 years. God Bless you and keep the sunny side up and the rubber side down!!!!!
Hello Big Rig Becca, I hope that You are doing wonderful and amazing! I just wanted to say Hello to You and Thank You for a look into your world. Stay amazing! Happy Holidays to You and Your family. I enjoy watching You and just trucking Justin. Best always, Jack
Company just had me switch trucks and never even thought about it being the same color as yours. Had been in a 2017 Orange Peterbilt with 697,000 miles. Now I'm in a 2020 dark blue Peterbilt with 333,500 miles. Both are 18 speeds. Guess thay usually get rid of them at about 500,000 or 600,000. Didn't realize I had already put about 88,000 miles on the orange one this year just since April 5th, but we do go to all lower 48. Last week I had about 3,500 miles with a run from Columbus, NE to Baker City, OR and then Harrisburg, OR to Omaha, NE. We all have loads occasionally that want to chew up equipment, that's part of how we learn out here. Good job and keep it shiny side up.
Becca I ran flatbed a lot of years. Another thing I've used for edge protectors is decommissioned fire hose. Use to get it from local Fire departments. Then I would cut it on a bandsaw 12 to 18 inch lengths. It's really handy you can double it up under straps for loads like that one. You acquire a lot of tools running a flatbed. Some you invent. Just passing on a little info from an old retired trucker too a young one. We never stop learning.
The company you drive for probably has a safety person. When in doubt securing a weird load call. Rubber coil mats are handy to have. Those things are so loosely coiled I would have run a single strap (weight of a coil dependent) through access the bottom with coil mats for strap protection. Another option depending on how tough the coils are you might have been able to put dunnage through and run a strap over that. Don’t be afraid to phone a friend and send pics getting another opinion
Pretty sure I saw you a few weeks back, thought I’d see you somewhere down the road again, wasn’t expecting it to be on TH-cam lol doing a fine job out there. Safe travels 🤘🏻
My opinion. Use chains on that load. Front two get chained to the rear. Back two get to the front. Dealers choice on anything in the middle. If you wanna do extra…lay your 4x4s along each side then run straps between the coils to cinch each 4X4 snug into the sides of the coils. One strap for each end of the 4x4.
Been there done that. Ran out of fuel right in the Sturbridge Toll Plaza on the Massachusetts Turnpike when I had my Freightliner Century. Luckily was able to have a relative run me fuel out to me and was able to get it going again and head to a nearby travel center for fuel.
Merry Christmas Becca and to all your family. Thanks for sharing your life on the road for this year and wish you, dogs and families a happy new year. Following from Sydney Australia.
I would have put a strap on the front and back coils pulling them into the others and used some edge protectors. Then I would have run a chain across the floor of the trailer in front and back and used two portable winches across the top. Everyone is going to have their own way of doing it, that's just what I would have done. Another tip I can give you is that a bungee cord could have helped keep your edge protectors in place.
That the shipper wasn't helpful in suggesting how best to secure the load was disappointing. Unacceptable, really. Maybe chains would have been the better choice, maybe not. The straps did a good job in tying it down. No matter what you used, those rolls, loosely coiled as they were, were going to have some give and take. In an earlier comment there was a suggestion to use old worn out straps, folded back and forth, underneath the ones used to secure the load. That seems workable, if you have the old straps on hand. Very much enjoy your videos, Becca. Happy holidays to you and your family!
Merry Christmas, Becca! I love your videos. Stay safe and keep the greasy side down. Enjoy your time with family this Christmas season and prayers for a Blessed 2024. Peace!
Hey Becca try getting some sliding strap covers for your straps!! They are thick and will protect your straps in addition to your corner savers and alot cheaper then new straps !!! I run a step deck to and have never done a slinky load but you look like you did a good job to me and I know for me use those edge protectors cause those straps ain't cheap at the truck stops 😆
They should have rolled the screening material tighter and banded it so it stayed tight. Then you could have just run your straps through the center and flat strapped it.
You need to learn to reject A load when it is like those roles. They are not rolled properly and you could easily get a fine or even cause an accident if one of them comes off. The company needs to secure them much better than what those are secured. That kind of load can cost you more money than it pays especially when it destroys your straps.
I was going to say I didn't want to take it, but I had already been sitting for over a day waiting for that load and needed to get rolling. I was mad also about my straps because those ones weren't supplied to me.
@@bigrigbecca i would not reject. i would not change their way of loading since i load myself. keep those roles round by packing them forward with a dunnage trough center a winch would be nice

If you ever get another load like this use chains and binders. cross your chain through the "coil" use two binders it looks like two chains and two binders per coil. They will not tear up your equipment.
