@@romeohulu9194 If you get the car high enough to reach in there you could be done in 20 minutes, takes more time to jack the car up and get tools out and put away then the actual repair, par for the course and the fish won't wait lol
This wasn't necessarily helpful to myself but a great video all the same. I have this exact model and I have had a really hard time not only getting parts but finding information about the vehicle at all so thank you a lot
@zilentchaos9964 Your welcome, these cars tend to eat a starter and alternator at least once or more in it's general driving life, have the alternator video as well when you need it, thanks for watching
As someone who JUST finished doing the starter in my 99 SL, I can tell you that doing the blind bolt SUCKS! The rest of the job took all of 30 minutes. I spent more than 2 hours getting the blind bolt in on top. Ended up having to kneel on top of my engine and use my telescoping magnet on a stick to get the tip of the bolt in the hole then very carefully use the tips of my fingers to get it started a couple turns. Then 10 minutes of fighting to get it tight. FYI I HIGHLY recommend a Milwaukee M12 cordless 3/8 ratchet for this job. Huge, huge help. I'll also say... If you have the ~$400 just take it to a mechanic to get this done.
You should watch the alternator video where I do it one handed while videoing, I'm glad you got it, I'm not a small person and believe it or not I can reach around the starter and feel the bolt hole and bolt to get it started, I've had some practice over the years on these though, again, I'm glad you got it and I hope this video helped, thanks for watching
$100 with a lift it's one hour (If they aren't busy if they are busy they will quote you some crazy $400) You can order this part for $30 rebuilt $40 new
Can't believe more people didn't like the video?! Anyways, I guess my hands are bigger than I thought, but I got it off and on in about an hr (kept dropping the back bolt). Anyways, thank you for posting!
@@ccreations123 Sure thing mate! It's people like you that take the time to post good videos that save us from having to go buy the Haynes manual. Thanks again.
I have replaced my starter and opted to install a double ended stud and nut instead of fighting the bolt on the backside of the starter going in. worked wonders GM part # 1589054, this is hardened 8.98 and higher, you will need a nut for it , M8 x 1.25 it will have to be Hardened 9.8 nut this will work for all saturns 91 - 02 with the 1.9l motor, not sure for the 2.2
Hey Scott,,that Is a great idea..i have a 2000 1.9l Saturn, which i dont really know what model It Is since It does not have says nothing but Saturn,,,anyways i have driven this car for about 12 years,,It Is amazing..but Fit the first Time Yesterday when tried to Start It It just wont go,,It makes no sound at all, It just wont start,,,y checked the fuses but them seems to be ok..maybe It Is gonna be the starter, but It Is kind of hidden,,Is there any way to check if the starer Is down ??.. Thanks!
@jamesfoster8077 That is a s.o.b. if it wants to fight, I've been pretty lucky with them for the most part, leave the bottom a little loose and thread the top in almost all the way by hand
@jamesfoster8077 I thought this was the alternator video haha but I guess it still applies, yea initially it seems tough but if the car is high enough I can reach around both sides of the starter to get at it and just thread it in
@@ccreations123 your video was definitely the best out there! & it really wasn’t that bad but I made the comment after battling it for 45 minutes. Thanks for the content & tips.
Great project car - my neighbor has one as a daily driver though probably pays more for filling it up than the thing is worth especially with sky-high gas prices.
Thank you. I needed the words of encouragement. I can do this!
Big thanks for this video. Made the job a breeze all things considered. You the man!
Your welcome and Thanks Poot, I'm glad it's a help
Very informative! I will be performing my first starter change today, thanks for all your help Chuck! :)
You're Welcome, hope it's still starting for you
Thanks for the video buddy! Gotta change out the starter is my sister's Saturn today
You're welcome, good luck on it!
@@ccreations123 thanks! Hopefully it won't be too bad. It's cutting into my fishing time this evening lol

These cars tend to barely sip fuel as they weigh nothing and generally run well until they don't, thanks for watching
