    • @positroll7870
      @positroll7870 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Um, your info is out of date. A lot.
      After a decade of cuts, German military spending has been going up again from 34 billion EUR before Crimea in 2013 to 51,5 billion in 2020. Number of soldiers has grown again from 180ooo to almost 200ooo.
      Germany did order an additional 104 LeoIIA7V (refit of LeoIIA4s still in the depots from cold war time) in 2019 to bring Leo numbers up to 330 by 2023. And another 80 are under consideration, for 400 Leos overall. Funds for another 210 Pumas have already been agreed and will be used once the Puma has overcome its growing pains (meaning reliable electronics and enough spare parts produced).
      The recent budget proposal for 2021 includes funds for 38 new tranche 4 Eurofighters and 2 new submarines to increase that fleet from 6 to 8.
      Now, if we also get around to finally put out the replacement orders for the Tornado and the CH53G with modern aircraft in a supplemental budget next year after the elections, the BW soon will be in reasonable shape again.

    I am glad the see British-German relations are strong and we are still contributing to a strong, stable, close, and collaborative, Europe. Even if the training is for missions in the Middle-East, it is still valuable training should there ever be this kind of close combat in Eastern Europe. I hope it never happens, but there has been plenty of concern about Russia over the past several years, so this collaboration and unity is very important as a deterrent. I also dream of peace in the Middle-East, so anytime there is this kind of training, and that is the purpose, as much as it is good and important, it makes me a little sad.

      The german military careers are quite different. As a officer or seargent you sign a first contract for 12 years, the following contract is for the rest of your live. You leave the Bundeswehr getting 55 years old. (General depents on the rank. Some retired earlier some later after their 55th Birthday). But you mostly leave combat role with around 40. So even in a combat unit there´s no need staying in a good condition.

    Ha...that's my old stomping ground...I remember back in the day some lads would take out the 432s and the local German farmers would ask them to take a little detour through their fields and rip up their crops...they'd get a bottle of Asbach and a carton of ciggies...in exchange the farmer would put a claim in to the MoD for damage to his crop...he'd get three times in compo off the MoD than what his crop was worth so the the story goes...win win I guess...cheeky buggers...I wonder if the Sene Eke is still there on the strip...I know my old unit was sold off by the MoD way back....in fact the MoD sold off a lot of property in Sennelager...the good old days...I do miss the lads...well, some of them...some now though are long gone...I saw my first UFO while on duty in Sennelager...I had to write a report and everything...the QRF was scrambled and MoD plod out...never seen anything like it...some believed me...some did not...I didn't care as I was just glad to have seen it and say I had actually seen one...I wonder where that report is now...yip...good old Sennelager....known for its strippers, beer and UFOs...
