My German granduncle used to be a submariner in WW2 and fought against the British. Their submarine got hit by the royal navy and now his body is lying somewhere in the north Atlantic. Good to see we're way closer nowadays and how far we've come in our relations 🇬🇧🇩🇪

As the daughter of an RAF W/O and a German mother (who was sent to the Flemish coast to man the searchlights for the flak in the war), this gladdens my heart in a thousand ways 👍🇬🇧🇩🇪❤
Actually my grandpa who fought in WW2 died just a few years ago in 2018, and we have had the British Army in Westphalia since 1945 training along the German Army since the mid 1950's :)
Think our grandads and great grandads would prefer to not see this as would rather those in power seeked peace, jaw jaw instead of war. I think they would have a heavy heart knowing that thousands of our working class sons and daughters will die as have in previous wars. As has happened and happening in Ukraine and Russia. Never those in power who die or their sons and daughters they will all go on to live a happy healthy life. However plenty money to be had in war for doners same for those in power they loose nothing, No money to be made in peace.
We‘ve come a long way during the last 70 odd years and I am more than happy about it. British troops were a very common sight in the area where I live (Lower Saxony, Fallingbostel county) during Cold War times. To see them back here and train with our forces is reassuring. Salutes to you Britons!

Yes we fought two wars against the Germans but the Germans/ Prussians saved Wellington's army at Waterloo . So it is not the first time British and German forces have worked/fought together . Working together is the way forward it just might make Mr Putin think twice .
When the British were still in the German barracks in Dortmund and Herford, it was easy to invite them to the maneuvers. We had a lot of fun and communication was good. Now that they are gone, everything has to be reorganized and experienced anew. I hope that the bond will be like it used to be...

Completely agree. I lived in Germany for 3 years when I was a kid. It was one of the happiest times in my life. I have been back many times in all parts of the country and miss it immensely when I am not there. We have so much in common

What is so horrifying is how small our contribution is compared to what it was and what it ought to be. We are not nearly strong enough given the threat from Russia. Our 250 tanks are not nearly enough? In the case of battle losses what replacements have? None! Do we really expect to fight a war without losses?
Our role wouldn’t be supplying tanks. That’s why we only have that many. Our contribution would be as part of a coalition. For example Poland has a large land army, we have sea and air power, etc

But I wouldn't worry about Europe. Even if you exclude the US, the European part of Nato spends around 400 billion dollars on military and has over 1.5 million active military personel, around 7000 tanks (and unlike Russia we don't count every rusting carcass of a tank on our scrap yards towards that number) , 9 carriers, 100+ frigattes and idk how many jet fighters (too lazy to add up all the numbers from wikipedia) but Germany, Britain and France each have around 180 jet fighters, the US currently has around 200 more stationed in Europe and can ship countries worth of fighters here in a matter of days. And that's in peace time. Now imagines us spending 6% of GDP like Russia Russias army didn't look much different before the war than ours does now. As I said, they just counted every wreck they had stored somewhere towards their vehicle fleet. Their actuall army was much smaller but now it has ballooned as every army would during war time.
As a German I can understand Britains for leaving the buerocracy EU, Brussel went to far. Germany should also step out and found something newmwith the real allies.

But I think logistic would be a LOT easer if the Challenger 2 had a smooth bore gun in stead of that rifled trash were still using! we should have stopped using that dam gun then the Challenger 2 was going though it's prototype and develop phase! 😡

The army should never have left Germany, BAOR was a massive deterent to russia.

The UK was instrumental in even closer European ties after WW2 to stop future wars. Just because a few lying, Russian-influenced 'politicians' (some never actually elected to UK parliament) tell you European integration is bad is no reason to believe them. It makes you look what you are - easily fooled.
