    I use a few mods for Slay the Spire. All of them are Quality-of-Life improvements and do not have any effect on the gameplay. Here are all of the mods I have active:
    Slay the Relics Exporter, used for the live stream: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
    Relic Stats, to keep track of how many times the relic effects happened: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
    UI Sliders, to reposition the Discard and Exhaust piles, so that they are not hidden behind the camera: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
    Run History Plus, giving us more info in the Run Summary screen about the run: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
    Map Marks, for path highlighting - here, typically, Green means an easy, intended path, and Orange or Red means a harder path that I might take if I get good rewards: github.com/casey-c/mapmarks
    Even though I do not use it, I recommend Minty Spire for people looking for various Quality-of-Life improvements: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...

    This was a wild run. Baalor takes a pile of crap cards with floor 1 coffee dripper and somehow takes it home. Best spire player alive.

    I admit. I am struggling to figure out what it takes to win Act 4. I'm at a fairly low A rank on the four characters (sub 10) and I have successful heart runs on 3 of the 4 characters, but I have a lot of runs where I feel like I have a very strong build that is demolishing elites and bosses only to be destroyed without putting up much of a fight against the heart or sometimes the shield and spear. Sometimes it feels like I just can't scale out fast enough against the act 4 enemies, and sometimes I feel like I could but the draw order just sucks for me. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I feel like watching you I can predict most of your picks, but I don't understand how you get such consistency.
    Any suggestions on how you are preparing for Act 4 that aren't things like 'Have Calipers' or 'Have Ice Cream Cone'?

    • @ItsBaggyboy
      @ItsBaggyboy 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Ice cream is overrated.
      Take attack cards in act one. Remove starter cards. Fight elites. Skip cards if they don’t improve your deck. Try and find a synergy between your cards and relics.
      Just keep watching Baalor and you will learn more. He has great intro videos for new players.

    • @icewithboba
      @icewithboba 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      i'm not too qualified to answer bc i feel the same way about act 4 with any non-infinite deck, but here are some things i thought about:
      - damage / block required **per turn** is super high; my estimates for combats are:
      > tim requires ~ 30 damage / 30 block
      > bird requires 20 damage / 30 block per turn
      > donu deca requires ~50 damage / 30 block per turn
      > it feels like shield and spear requires ~70 damage / 50 block per turn
      > the heart requires ~120 damage / 60 block per turn
      so act 4 is actually just a big jump; baalor saves potions to get over this gap, fairy / ghost / actual hp for health, dup / power / ambrosia here for damage
      (weak and vuln are good in act 4, they lower the required damage / block by a lot, hence shockwave pick)
      - card draw required is super high:
      > baalor would take and bottle foresight, and i never really liked foresight, but it is so helpful for shield and spear turn 2. without card draw on that turn, the deck needs to live 61(+4) incoming damage on 3 random cards.
      > 30 damage / 30 block might be achievable with 5 cards; 120 damage and 50 block takes twice as many cards. tim requiring 10 value per card roughly suggests that (with some potions), you'd need to play 12+ cards per turn.
      > this suggests that most of your deck should serve the purpose of allowing you to play more cards, beyond the numerical value, through card draw or energy
      you can pay a lot of hp to start setting up in the heart fight, but if you only play 5 cards per turn there's so little to do, and that's when i feel the most powerless in act 4.

    • @celebrim1
      @celebrim1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@icewithboba Card draw and an energy engine of some sort is one way to do it, but I find that those decks still tend to fail turn 1 and turn 2 if you don't draw your card draw and before act 4 when that happens you are only moderately punished for it. In Act 4, if you can't scale out turn 1 or turn 2 you just lose. I ran a run last night with lots of card draw in a small deck that could often play Omega turn one and did consistently play 12 cards a turn versus Timewalker and the elites leading up to that, and then I got to act 4, got a bad hand early and just could not recover because if you don't snowball then the act 4 fights certainly will.

    • @celebrim1
      @celebrim1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ItsBaggyboy The thing about calipers and ice cream cone is that they both do basically the same thing - they protect you almost completely from holding the wrong cards at the wrong time.
      Any good deck is going to have strong cards and some draw. But a lot of fights come down to needing a lot of block on some turns and then a lot of attack on other turns. If you are holding strong attacks at the same time as the opponent, you lose. If you are holding strong defenses while the opponent is buffing, you lose. Ice cream cone and calipers protect you from this by letting you hold your turn and play it as part of the next turn. With adequate card draw it's hard to lose while holding the ice cream cone. With adequate scaling of defenses it's hard to lose while holding calipers. Building 70 block but dealing no damage on a turn that the opponent is buffing no longer ends your run.

      Part of it is that we see winning runs mostly, so even knowing his winrate is I believe somewhere between 50 and 60% (because he tells us), it feels higher, giving us less realistic expectations of how often we can win. Even some super-powerful decks he's had have just bricked shield and spear draws and died.
      Including enough draw, card manipulation, and where possible some energy generation seem to be key for act 4 because you really have to go fast.
      Big block on turn 2 and/or 3, and killing one of them turn 3 seems essential.
      All this stellar advice from someone who hasn't passed A10 (I watch more than I play)

    Somebody do the math I want to know how much dmg pummel+can do with wrath+vulnerable +wreath of flames+pen nib+fasting ?

    • @zay_jb
      @zay_jb 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ll give it a shot. Assuming there’s no other factors than what you’ve given me, pummel+ starts at 2*5 dmg. I believe wrath would make the strength (3, 4 if upgraded) from Fasting effectively double so that puts pummel at 10*5 already (12*5 if Fasting is upgraded). Wreath of flames would make that either 15*5 or 20*5 if both Fasting and WoF are upgraded. Now we need to factor in both Pen Nib and the enemy being vulnerable. You get the same result no matter the order you do the math, so Pen Nib makes it 40*5, and a vulnerable enemy takes 50% more damage, making pummel+ finally deal a whopping 60 damage 5 times. Hope that’s right!

      I saw a comment dated a while back from either Baalor or his editor responding to a similar type of request; he stated it was because the data stats showed 95% of viewers clicked off after the run ended, so they would instead add recommended videos next to increase viewership. Honestly, I think I might be in the 95%, though oftentimes I fall asleep to his videos so that may not be as applicable. I wonder if the viewer retention duration stats have changed since a year ago or so @Baalorlord (don’t think this works but including it anyway in hope)
