For anyone who is confused about how the math works in the real world. Not just theoretically. It would be 1/2 of a pizza divided by 1/4 person (not another pizza?) So if 1/2 pizza is a half serving for one person. For a person 1/4 of the size it’s a doubl3 serving. So it can actually be represented via a real world problem as well as a mathematical proof. 1/1 = 1 2/1 = 2 1/2 = 2/4 1/4 * 2 = 2/4 We can divide the 1/4 from both sides to also write that same equation as 2 = (1/2) / (1/4)
When you're dividing, your actually multiplying by the reciprocal of the number you're dividing by, so 4 ÷ 2 = 4 × 1/2 = 2, so dividing by a fraction is actually multiplying by the reciprocal, so 1/2 ÷ 1/4 = 1/2 × 4/1 = 1/2 × 4 = 2
It makes more sense if u think of it as a decimal. For example 1/2 is 0.5 and 1/4 is 0.25. So 0.5/0.25=2 fractions make it seem much more complicated than it really is.
What made me have to brush up on mathematics to help my kids in high school as recently as a few months ago was they changed the way you calculate half of it from my day 25-30 years ago , you get the same answer but having to show your working out & it not being how they teach now was costing marks ... But the answers were right , so I think it can't be that much of a better way or teachers have gotten worse because the kids still needed help or guidance at home

If the unit is food and you’re dividing a fraction of the food by a smaller fraction of the food, you have to think 1/2 of said food is still one piece, but dividing it by 1/4 of the whole unit of food. Therefore, you have 2 1/4 pieces of said food in 1/2 of said food.

It makes more sense if u think of it as a decimal. For example 1/2 is 0.5 and 1/4 is 0.25. So 0.5/0.25=2 fractions make it seem much more complicated than it really is.

What made me have to brush up on mathematics to help my kids in high school as recently as a few months ago was they changed the way you calculate half of it from my day 25-30 years ago , you get the same answer but having to show your working out & it not being how they teach now was costing marks ... But the answers were right , so I think it can't be that much of a better way or teachers have gotten worse because the kids still needed help or guidance at home
Quality of teachers has dropped like crazy (especially true in public schools) to the point I am genuinely concerned reading the other comments talking about the question raised in the video.
-Sidenote, I also am exceptionally concerned about the off-topic crap most teachers have been able to get away with imposing on their students, but this'll get shadow banned if I am too specific.

For anyone having difficulty understanding this as well, you can simply multiply by the secone term flipped around, i.e. ½÷¼ becomes ½x4/1 and now 4x1 is 4, 2x1 is 2 and 4/2 is 2/1, so 2. It's always numerator times numerator, denominator times denominator

"Dividing fractions is easy as Pi
Flip the second, and multiply!"
Translation:
1/2 ÷ 1/4 = 1/2 × 4/1 = 4/2 = 2
If the unit is food and you’re dividing a fraction of the food by a smaller fraction of the food, you have to think 1/2 of said food is still one piece, but dividing it by 1/4 of the whole unit of food. Therefore, you have 2 1/4 pieces of said food in 1/2 of said food.
((1/2)/(1/4))=(1/2)•(4/1)= 4•(1/2)= 4/2= 2 when you multiply by a fraction (less than whole number) you get a smaller number dividing by a fraction (a number that is less than one) you get a larger number
