Never to be seen again? Two years after Super Mario Kart, DK Jr. appeared in Donkey Kong '94, and then again in Mario Tennis 64, Animal Crossing, the Mario Baseball game, and NES Remix.
He was "a one off character" in the same sense that "Cranky Kong" (ie a newer version of the original DK) or "Candy Kong" were. Because Nintendo didn't immediately greenlight a trilogy, they told Rare to make a "Super Donkey Kong" game to keep their properties fresh or something; then Rare did such an amazing job that they went on to make three direct sequels. The reason DK himself doesn't appear in the second or third game is because he's Shigeru Miyamoto's character. And Mr. Miyamoto apparently hated the game because it was too heavily focused on graphics or something, and there was some sort of intense internal rivalry going on.

Used to go on adventures with his friends looking for his dad, donkey Kong who Mario had captured. But I really like how they showed how donkey Kong Junior got older. When I used to watch donkey Kong Junior cartoon in 1982, he was so small. He was about the size of Diddy Kong
DK JR is in Mario Kart Tour. It's not a fully 3D appearance-- they just use his sprites from the original Super Mario Kart, but it acknowledges that DK Jr still exists and is his own character. It's clear that DK Jr straight up doesn't exist in the film universe, but I hope we get to see DK JR reappear in some Mario or DK games soon.
I kinda agree he could’ve had more time but I was happy to see him at all because I love Diddy, and he has room to grow since he was depicted as so young.
Honestly it's so sad seeing Donkey Kong Jr, one of the most classic Nintendo icons, falling into obscurity like that. Replacing him for a brand new character back in 1994 was such a heinous choice. In the original Mario/DK Timeline, Cranky Kong is the Kong that appears in the "Donkey Kong Arcade", but younger. And "Donkey Kong Jr." was his son, this means that DK (the one we see in the movie, with a tie) is the grand-son of Cranky Kong. But that shit is so confusing that in the Movie they could just remove "Donkey Kong Jr." to make DK the son of Cranky Kong. Plus, Donkey Kong Jr was alredy forgotten by basically everyone... It would be so weird to have a movie with the grand-son looking like an adult and his father looking like a baby.
The Donkey Kong family tree includes the original Donkey Kong from the old games. In current games (DK Country) he is referred to as “Kranky Kong” he is the old Kong with the white long beard in the chair. His son is Donkey Kong Jr. Donkey Kong Jr.’s son is the current day Donkey Kong that is in DK Country. This is a canonical fact. The movie is wrong when it has current DK call Cranky Kong his dad because he calls him his grandpa in the DK Country games. Also people are confused and calling Diddy Kong current DK’s brother or son. Both are untrue he always has been current DK’s nephew. I don’t know where this confusion came from but it has always been like that in the Donkey Kong County games. Any person who played those games knows this but most people haven’t. I hope I cleared up some of your confusion.

In the original dk jr was supposed to be the father of our current dk. The timeline goes in the donkey kong arcade game the donkey kong would later grow to be cranky. He had a kid dk jr who then had a son who is our current dk with the tie

See this really hits home for me. Because I'm a gen xer and I remember donkey Kong Junior having his own cartoon. Used to go on adventures with his friends looking for his dad, donkey Kong who Mario had captured.
But I really like how they showed how donkey Kong Junior got older. When I used to watch donkey Kong Junior cartoon in 1982, he was so small. He was about the size of Diddy Kong

It's not a fully 3D appearance-- they just use his sprites from the original Super Mario Kart, but it acknowledges that DK Jr still exists and is his own character.
It's clear that DK Jr straight up doesn't exist in the film universe, but I hope we get to see DK JR reappear in some Mario or DK games soon.

I kinda agree he could’ve had more time but I was happy to see him at all because I love Diddy, and he has room to grow since he was depicted as so young.
Honestly it's so sad seeing Donkey Kong Jr, one of the most classic Nintendo icons, falling into obscurity like that. Replacing him for a brand new character back in 1994 was such a heinous choice. It's like if Nintendo decided to replace Luigi for some bland hip character when Super Mario World was in development.

Small correction about Diddy's creation; Diddy was originally meant to be a redesign for Donkey Kong Jr. But he was deemed too radically different by higher ups, so he was given a different name based on a British slang word for small and made into his own character.

In the original Mario/DK Timeline, Cranky Kong is the Kong that appears in the "Donkey Kong Arcade", but younger. And "Donkey Kong Jr." was his son, this means that DK (the one we see in the movie, with a tie) is the grand-son of Cranky Kong.
But that shit is so confusing that in the Movie they could just remove "Donkey Kong Jr." to make DK the son of Cranky Kong. Plus, Donkey Kong Jr was alredy forgotten by basically everyone...
It would be so weird to have a movie with the grand-son looking like an adult and his father looking like a baby.

Diddy Kong Racing is the exact reason why I, too, wish Diddy Kong had more spotlight in the movie.
The Donkey Kong family tree includes the original Donkey Kong from the old games. In current games (DK Country) he is referred to as “Kranky Kong” he is the old Kong with the white long beard in the chair. His son is Donkey Kong Jr. Donkey Kong Jr.’s son is the current day Donkey Kong that is in DK Country. This is a canonical fact. The movie is wrong when it has current DK call Cranky Kong his dad because he calls him his grandpa in the DK Country games. Also people are confused and calling Diddy Kong current DK’s brother or son. Both are untrue he always has been current DK’s nephew. I don’t know where this confusion came from but it has always been like that in the Donkey Kong County games. Any person who played those games knows this but most people haven’t. I hope I cleared up some of your confusion.
