  • It's home to some of the nastiest viruses known to science, including Hendra virus and SARS. Located within the high containment facility at our Australian Animal Health Laboratory (AAHL), in Geelong Victoria, the AAHL Collaborative Biosecurity Research Facility is the world's most advanced biosecure laboratory. This new facility provides Australia with the necessary biosecure and biosafe infrastructure required to undertake research to effectively tackle increasing biosecurity threats, both here in Australia and around the world.

Recently transferred my experiments to a new SPF animal facility, the old animal facility wasn't that 'clean'. Kinda sucks when your mice get Helicobacter hepaticus and you're doing experimental liver research... At first I thought: Man, getting clothes off, washing hands a gazillion times, putting on surgical mask and hairnet, decontaminate this, sterilize that, go through the air shower, bring things in through the autoclave or nebulizer...Imagine forgetting something crucial, do it all over again to get the thing you forgot you need in the lab...
    Then I saw this...
    I'm never complaining again !!!

UV light x WATTS destroys all known pathogens. There are many ways this facility is 99.999999 percent is a failsafe design system in depth you would have noted how in the hazard suit there was a chemical shower for 7 minutes then they strip out of their laboratory clothes which don't leave the next layer then they have a shower again this time in filtered water then leave that part of the building then shower again and put on their clothes when they work in the in the lead they are issued with clothing including underwear that never leaves the building it is incinerator at high temperatures absolutely everything is done in depth a fellow once told me one of the many security systems they have and no one is aware of them all as far as I know is at the flick of the switch they can flood the entire air ducting system with high intensity Ultra violet radiation I was told that there are security cameras that observe everything and there are security cameras that observe the people observing the security cameras and the security cameras are also fully accessible via virtual LAN and tanning fact really be viewed by anyone anywhere and any number I also strongly suspect though by very nature of which cannot confirm that the joint is highly compartmented this lab is originally called the Australian Animal Health laboratory Australia has unique characteristics in that we do not have a lot of diseases that affect animals in other continent there is no rabies in this country for example how many species have no immunity to these diseases the only place Australian scientist can study these diseases is under extremely control conditions and this is the only place in the nation that we can by that virtue it is one of the few places on Earth can be studied on animals that also affect humans Australia also has rather a large part of it that is tropical we also have nation state Neighbours that are tropical being one of the most advanced medical research nations of the world requires us to do what we can to help out brothers and sisters overseas fight the likes of dengue fever malaria and so forth chemical and biological weapons are strictly illegal in this nation and we have also never chosen to develop nuclear weapons even though we have the capability and enough uranium to destroy the planet a million x over

    • @spvillano
      @spvillano 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@benjamin8968 the notion of flooding entire duct systems with UV is rather ludicrous and would accomplish little, as the ductwork has many crevices that UV light would be incapable of entering. Can't kill what can't be irradiated.
As for destroying the planet, nobody has that ability and it's doubtful humanity ever will manage to destroy the planet itself. Render it inhospitable, yes, destroy a planet, all of the nuclear warheads ever made, set off at a point of one's choosing won't damage the planet very much. And given the thousands of nuclear detonations either in open air or vented to the atmosphere didn't manage to do much more than elevate the cancer rate of those downwind from the detonation site.

Electronics that are used in labs very often are constructed to survive sterilisation in an autoclave.
And other things are disinfected using radiation, uv light, heat, various disinfectants, etc.
Often some devices are brought into the lab, used there and sterilised as much as possible and at the end of their lifetime they go into a sterile package and get burnt once they are outside. Just like it’s done with the trash that they collect inside these labs.

If you did what these people do, work with the infectious agents the do, you're right a cloth diaper wouldn't work. A cloth diaper will probably keep you from getting struck down by a biological weapons grade pathogen to and from the grocery store.

I used to work at Sheraton Waikiki 26 yr. and I have a good idea where it came from.
We used different color cutting board because of cross contamination we don't mix even stem cleaned
China open market are really bio labs. they might have clean a sick snake or bat etc animal & guts could throw it in a can. And A dog might have eaten it. So dogs are affected
sick dog sneezes and live in homes right? respiratory.
Or they could have wash the board , but the bacteria on the cutting board alive and grow in the heat. Then the cut chicken that feed people now has 2 types of animal bacteria
That has involve into something new. A bio lab into the unknown.
And are cutting people meat and sea food that eaten raw.
If you don't belive me it's a bad live bacteria world on everything growing. Try to lick you hand. I guarantee you be running to the bathroom in a hr.

The most secured BSL-4 lab should be VECTOR Institute in Russia and CDC in Atlanta, Georgia. They are the only 2 facilities approved by the World Health Organisation to synthesize and store the now eradicate Small Pox Virus. VECTOR Institute are heavily guarded by military personnel, and the whole city has been closed down by the Russian government to avoid any intruders.

I’m pretty sure that PHAC’s lab in Winnipeg is more advanced and 🇦🇺 copies their design. After 15 years at the Canadian Science Centre for Human and Animal Health lab, it’s the maintenance & calibration level that’s the most important. Why he has to keep repeating “Best in the world” that makes me suspicious since our labs been hot for over 2 decades!

In 1977 Jim Peacock of the Australian Academy of Science asked Bill Snowdon, then Chief CSIRO AAHL if he could have the newly released USA NIH and the British equivalent requirements for the development of infrastructure for bio-containment reviewed by AAHL personnel with a view to recommending the adoption of one of them by Australian authorities. The review was carried out by CSIRO AAHL Project Manager Bill Curnow and CSIRO Engineer Arthur Jenkins. They drafted outcomes for each of the levels of security. AAHL was notionally classified as "substantially beyond P4". These were adopted by the Australian Academy of Science and became the basis for Australian Legislation. It opened in 1985 costing $185 million, built on Corio Oval.[9] The Australian Animal Health Laboratory is a Class 4/ P4 Laboratory.

🇨🇦 uses a BSL4 designation for both our virology (PHAC) and our animal (CFIA) Level 4 labs, both contained within the same complex. The only complex to house both, that I’ve heard of.
PHAC upgraded their controls system to an Industrial Controls system that has a redundancy feature built in. CFIA upgraded to a higher level commercial system. Both are controlled through a integration system for a seamless MMI station so that operators need to know only one operating system.
The original cost in 1996 was CDN $178M plus $5M for the 2010 controls upgrade.
It’s the design platform used by labs built since.
Watch this before replying. From my former director and world renowned virologist, Dr. Plummer

Masks lower the risk of you contracting or spreading the virus or other germs.
That’s why they are used by doctors in operating rooms and other medical personnel.
These suits ensure that you can’t contract any virus or germ and and combination with strict desinfektion and sterilisation protolols they ensure that there is absolutely no risk of even a single viral particle, spore or bacteria leaving the lab.
Masks protect you from contracting or spreading diseases as easily.
Suits protect us all from diseases leaving the lab and us having to deal with a new pandemic every few years.
      They serve different purposes
