    A true crane will always have an equal and opposite moment arm, i.e. a couple that sums to zero at the pivot. The fact that the counterweights do not keep the crane in equilibrium when the camera end is extended shows that the counter-extension has not been thought-out correctly; you should not need to add or remove weights when you've balanced out the crane.

    • @dantucny
      @dantucny 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wonder if it's the motor and it's battery or something that throws it off. On the long end, the the camera extends off the furthest point and nothing is mounted anywhere else on the arm, on the short end the weights and controller extend off the furthest point. For it to change from being back heavy to front heavy during extension, either something on the long end would need to be extending quicker, or something on the rear end would need to be extending slower - which is what makes me think the motor and battery may be the issue as it's not mounted to the weight bar and so will extend less. Adding a lighter weight on the long end a little closer to the pivot than the mid point would probably allow it to be balanced such that it could maintain equilibrium throughout extension.

    I really like that you mentioned working WITHIN this thing's limitations.
    I was on a set where one of these was brought out specifically for a crowd shot with an A cam that was WAY too hefty for it.
    Thankfully, we had a pre-rig day, and they were able to get something more suitable in. DoP REALLY didn't want to use a b-cam. I still shudder to imagine a less experienced crew trying to go outside of this thing's pay-grade with the hopes that it'll hold out for just long enough.
    Really cool tool and idea, though! Hopefully, it stays in the hands of people who will respect it.

    Sorry to tell you, but the Proaim Scissor jib is complete garbage. I have 2 of them and did a review that was quite the opposite of all these rave reviews. The bolts break, the motion is sloppy and shaky and as he said, the base and dolly are extra, then it ships from India for an extra $2000 in shipping and import taxes, more like $7000 total. Don't waste your money!

    • @davidgriffin79

      That's because the crane never stays in equilibrium when extended; a pi$$ poor design, as, when balanced to equilibrium, the counterweight should always exert an equal and opposite moment at the pivot; the fact that this isn't happening shows that the moment arms are different as the crane extends.

    I agree with your review..
    But at 10:50 you point out the difference I think you could build a cage (sppedrails and some gobo heads)around the back and operate from the cage like the techno crane and it would potentially fix that problem with the operator needing to step back as he extends the crane.

Most people don’t have technocranr clones to have fun with beer. But, fingers crossed we can have this is 2024/25. But , more likely we will wait for the Hover Air x10 in 2034 and have a self flying , pocketable AI drone do all the shooting and editing . Drinking is hard enough work.
