Thank you for doing this. I have been trying to help my wife (in jail for a misdemeanor, has Anosognosia) for months now. I wish Gwinnette County Georgia had any sort of program like this. Four months to get an order for a competency eval. Four more months to get the Evaluation, the results and an order to restore competency. The estimate is 2 months to get a bed now. So currently looking at 10 months from arrest on a minor misdemeanor to a bed in a Behavioral Hospital. Managing this from our home on the other side of the country with 2 kids. You three have been a great support to me.
Thank you all for doing this particular podcast. I too am a mom of a son with a psychotic disorder and after decades of dealing with all of this myself, I finally feel I am not alone!!! Thank you . Thank you. Thank you. You all are so brave. It has motivated me to write a blog about it and share it with others to continue advocating for him and so many others!!
this episode has suggestions...also make calls to public defender, to your son's counselor...it is not easy. We know. Call local NAMI for support and ideas. Also good resources in the next episode's book, Schizophrenia and Related Disorders: A Caregiver's Handbook.
Hello, my name is Kayse Brown. I have been doing a lot of advocating for Mental Health here in Walker County, Alabama. Is there any contact information that I could be directed to for Judge Leifman? I believe he is just the answer I’ve been searching for. Thank you so very much

Yes it would be helpful to have a chat with one of you. Is this possible to arrange?
My son is displaying and being charged for violence.
So what can we do now?

I am in Canada.
Due to privacy law I am denied as my son has forbidden anyone to speak with me.
yes, that happens in US as well. Conservatorship has helped us...but not sure of process in Canada. So sorry. Incredibly painful on so many levels

Hi Kayse, the best links we can offer are in the show notes, where you see some of the programs and articles etc. I hope that helps!
