You are exactly on track with what have thought for a long time. Golden ratio capture and conversion of the wind for most efficient processing of it and a way for excess pressure to mediate or pass through so as not to stress the the prop. Putting these in an array, minimize with magnetic bearing any resistance. Make them cheap, small, modular and easy to replace. Cost effective wind conversion anywhere to get the ROI right up asap.
I also saw these as a match made in heaven 😊. Also because it would allow the use of the ball bearing tip to get low friction. One thing I have found which is very important, is that these Neobidium magnets do not like being outside. If the surface coating is even very lightly scratched, the magnet just turns to rust dust.
That's impressive. I would love to see this installed totally complete waterproof and everything have it working for at least six months and see what the readings are on a daily basis. Love to build one of these.

Do You know why ship propellers aren't shaped like an Archimedes Screw? Because it was found that if you cut the screw off at a point where the top of one blade starts to cover the bottom of the other, it's more efficient. It's a simple optimization that's been known for over a hundred years now. I bet You'd find the same if You were to cut the height of the screw in half and just keep the wide base.
Beauty!! My phone requires 20 watt hours max to charge. If we could measure a 2 watt hour output, given your approx 30V output, we would only need about 66 milliamps to have a wonderful camp side charger!! AND it's wonderful to watch it spin!
That's a really nice build - maybe my favorite of your designs yet! I'm excited to see how it performs. I live in the southeastern US and my heat pump runs probably 9 hours a day on average at this time of year. I think I can make use of that exhaust air from the condenser fan, providing it's enough to collect and use in the shop.
It's worthwhile considering that if you added this to the air pump exhaust flow, you might be effectively making the air thicker. I'm not sure how much excess there is in the fan, but it's possible you could cause the fan to need to work harder, or limit the heat input/output. Ultimately, conservation of energy, and I don't know how that would impact that kind of setup, it might be negligible though, in which case that could be an inventive way to net increase efficiency. Not sure how you'd test it. You'd need an isolated system with effective ambient temperature control and then attempt to see what kind of temp differential you could create for some unit input of power with the power harvested subtracted off.
@@azena. Excellent point for sure. This is a typical fan though that blows vertical into the atmosphere with no restriction, not like in a pipe or constricted area. So if I covered it up with like 16 of them it might have an impact, but likely not noticeable with a couple. Good thinking, thank you.
@@skampp Quite possibly, it's difficult to say without doing tests to verify. The impact of a couple may very well be negligible, but then again who knows! I guess it also depends on the kind of environment the outdoor units are tested in. After all, they have to deal with wind from multiple directions, so actually, maybe there really is nothing to worry about. I can feel the variable list and unanswered questions growing 😂
I was thinking along similar lines. The space between my house and my neighbour's is like a wind tunnel. A number of them mounted on the side wall would probably be very effective, would be easiet to maintain than if they were on the roof, and would be fairly unobtrusive.

Theres not enough surface area for solar cells to pick up sun properly plus if its a moving object the cells dont have enough time to pick up light and generate the energy properly. Good idea though.
The improved efficiency spiral wind turbine was already Patented in US by Japanese man in Texas, a long time ago. Large scale models also built. It's called Tornado turbine. Also, the late Mr. Baumgartner had built a lifting device platform utilizing the ETHER , by swirling of turbine air with high rpm motor, very low power , and lifting very heavy weights. (Extracting energy power from the ETHER through angle of NATURE'S spiral). He used computer program to get exacting design . Two-page article with photos was in an old Alternate Energy newspaper.
Hi Robert, a couple of questions pop up for me with every one of these generator videos ... Why do you always put the magnets on the outside (far away from the coils) ? Surely closer is better ? And second question is whether you align the opposite poles of the magnets on opposite sides of the coil ?
Is the spacer supposed to be loose in the coil former? I noticed in the video that there is a gray space? in the blue coil former. What keeps the coil from floppying around?

Think of a tail shaped like a boomerang so that the top and bottom surfaces of the trailing tail are out of the auger's vortice exhaust wind turbulence. Please keep up the inventing. @@andrewsmithmilan1780 The vertical axis "impeller" (can't remember the name) is more "robust" and omni-directional, but has a 7% efficiency rating. It's used for phone charging at remote bus stops in Europe. A unit large enough to run your house would be THE SIZE of your house.
It really is a beautiful mechanism. Aestheticly pleasing as a functional piece of art. I wonder how that impeller would work in reverse as a propellor? The impeller reminds me of the suction driver in an old Kirby vacuum cleaner.
Robert, I enjoy your videos and I would love to see you build my idea. I envision a two foot metal rod with a large archimedes turbine on one end and a generator winding on the other end. There are magnets that create a mag lift to the rod and in the center of the rod there is a flywheel. The flywheel has holes drilled at a 75 degree angle that house magnets that generate a magnetic push once the wind starts the turbine spinning. Mounting it on a platform, would allow for adjustment and maximum wind capture. With the hand powered spin of the flywheel the turbine and magnets would increase the speed with very little resistance.
I do love your videos and the frequency of your experiments for I would think there's a lot of time spent off camera to get usable footage, thank you for sharing,This is very cool. So will you get the same impressive results as you scale upwards , will the size and mass of a larger turbine create more friction on bearings stopping to the turbine from turning.
Nice Construction. It spins well. It makes voltage. Put a little load on it and see what happens. Maybe you could get enough power to charge a phone. It needs to be much bigger to serve a useful purpose. I think a large one could be hooked to a hot water heater to get a little free hot water if you have enough wind.
That turns pretty good for the size of it. Can you attach a load and retest? Also, is there a max speed or some way to brake at a limit so it doesn't fly apart?

Because the intensity of the wind varies a lot, the wind turbine will vary to. The graphics of wind strength for a specific área will determine what kind of turbine works better.
i think you will have a very popular store, like home depot, that every educated client who understands well your u tube would not hesistate to order parts to build this wind turbine for domestic or field usage because its simple & workable to the ordinary people...........
You have some really great designs and I plan to print some to experiment with. I would like to see it hooked up to a load and tested for amperage though.

Hi there, very interesting channel. I actually am trying to print and assembling this turbine, but I think there is a missing part. In minute 1:43 when you are holding the serpentine part it is composed out of a blue part and a gray part. The gray part, which fits in the blue part doesn’t figure one the thingiverse files, or does it? Thanks for helping and greetings from Luxemburg
Will a funnel shaped skirt at the rear smooth the vertices at the rear archimedes screw inprove the efficency and cut down on the vibrations and make the generator point into wind self steering ?
I would be interested on the efficiency of the different designs. If you have much wind, all would work and generate enough energy for privat cases, but mostly are low wind conditions with less energy inside. So its important to use the theoretical possible energy with low wind efficient. Sure it is not Trivial, but maybe you can test equal scales of your designs on a big ventilator with the same generator and measure the power output? Very nice work you do!
If you put the magnets in and eliminated the south facing ones leaving an empty hole would it create a fluctuating DC current rather than an AC current in the wire thus eliminating the need for a rectifier?
I think a bit of the wobble/unbalance is due to the spiral not being evenly distributed in weight. A way to counteract this without messing with balance weights would be to make it a double (or more) spiral. Fun video though :)
I love your videos, and they have inspired me to make some models based on your work. I am testing both wind and hydro generators. This to use for charging boat (wind) and cabin (wind and hydro) What i miss in your different videos is som Watt numbers. How many Watts does your different generators make at given rpm?
Would a stack of magnet disks and coils make electrify? Or would having so many magnets and coils so close together cancel it all out. For instance 6 magnet disks with 5 coils between them rotated my a turbine/gears. It seems with enough torque to turn a large stack could be an answer to folks that have limited space.
That little turbine is just gorgeous, have you tried using capacitors in series to cancel the back-EMF generated in motors and the generator itself? Eliminating that little problem would be huge.
@@danedmiston9673 Have you experimentally verified that? Because that doesn't match what I've learned from studying Tesla and Steinmetz works, among others. The input torque of an electrical generator would free spin freely and indefinitely if not for 2 things, Friction and the Backwards Translation of Load in the form of a reverse magnetic field which forms as a result of the forward current, and which opposes the input motion. This reverse torque fighting the input torque requires more and more energy to be applied at the input to continue the ability for the extraction of energy at the output. Tesla spoke about this reverse current and reverse magnetic field, now called the Lenz Law. Tesla opposed the reverse torque natural occurrence, with the introduction of capacitors into an already inductive generator coil circuit. This is evident in the writing of Tesla's pancake coil patent. But more importantly he invented resonant electrical circuits, the resulting oscillations that occur within the same capacitive / inductive circuits, which alternately transmits magnetic and then dielectric pulses, over time, which each passing electrical half wave, and influence other similar circuits with the same electrical resonant frequency. The key here is that these secondary circuits are forced into electrical oscillation without a backwards translation of load, so long as the frequency remains perfect on both circuits. In other words, if you can keep the circuits resonating while you extract power from the second circuit, you will be able to withdraw more energy from the output than there is needed at the input to keep the system running. Then you can loop a portion of the output to power the input continuously and indefinitely. This has been successfully done and demonstrated in the work of Don Smith of Texas USA, and Tariel Kapanadze, of the soviet satellite country Georgia. The configuration is Tesla's patent 645576, System of Transmission of Electrical Energy. The configuration is Resonant circuits that are connected via the dielectric field. Although an optimal generator would be a lossless type that doesn't produce magnetism in its operation, instead maintaining lossless transmission in the form of dielectric current, this is how Tesla's hairpin circuit works by cleaning out the magnetism in an already inductive current, although I don't know if it's possible to generate pure dielectric current in the source. Although it's possible a generator that has had its back-emf suppressed via capacitive resonance is producing dielectricity instead of regular electricity, more research needed.
IMHO it could a good video three wind turbine moving generators of exact same type in the exact same place at the exact same time and compare the three later in the lab.
What if you punched some holes at the bottom of the cone to make use of the pressure differential you'll have created? Could you drive a secondary and lower power turbine elsewhere in the system?

why not create a machine that captures wind & solar energy?

I think that would depend on your local conditions, and the total setup you put together.

You forget your body creates an optimized flow compared to the windmeter you keep in front of your body. Nice video by the way.
Very nice. The shape is just like a Lilly impeller used to efficiently circulate water in huge cisterns so it won't become stagnant.

Nice Construction. It spins well. It makes voltage. Put a little load on it and see what happens. Maybe you could get enough power to charge a phone. It needs to be much bigger to serve a useful purpose. I think a large one could be hooked to a hot water heater to get a little free hot water if you have enough wind.

That turns pretty good for the size of it. Can you attach a load and retest? Also, is there a max speed or some way to brake at a limit so it doesn't fly apart?

Because the intensity of the wind varies a lot, the wind turbine will vary to. The graphics of wind strength for a specific área will determine what kind of turbine works better.
i think you will have a very popular store, like home depot, that every educated client who understands well your u tube would not hesistate to order parts to build this wind turbine for domestic or field usage because its simple & workable to the ordinary people...........
That looks like a reverse impeller, the voltage output was impressive, I'm sure it is from running magnets on both sides of the coil.

Hi there, very interesting channel. I actually am trying to print and assembling this turbine, but I think there is a missing part. In minute 1:43 when you are holding the serpentine part it is composed out of a blue part and a gray part. The gray part, which fits in the blue part doesn’t figure one the thingiverse files, or does it?

Will a funnel shaped skirt at the rear smooth the vertices at the rear archimedes screw inprove the efficency and cut down on the vibrations and make the generator point into wind self steering ?
I would be interested on the efficiency of the different designs.
If you have much wind, all would work and generate enough energy for privat cases, but mostly are low wind conditions with less energy inside. So its important to use the theoretical possible energy with low wind efficient.
Sure it is not Trivial, but maybe you can test equal scales of your designs on a big ventilator with the same generator and measure the power output?

The Archimedes wind turbine seems to produce more voltage than the Darwin wind turbine. It would be awesome to see more real-world experimentation.
If you put the magnets in and eliminated the south facing ones leaving an empty hole would it create a fluctuating DC current rather than an AC current in the wire thus eliminating the need for a rectifier?

I think a bit of the wobble/unbalance is due to the spiral not being evenly distributed in weight. A way to counteract this without messing with balance weights would be to make it a double (or more) spiral. Fun video though :)
I wonder if you could put a screw in that counteracts the wobble. You could fine tune the wobble out then.

I love your videos, and they have inspired me to make some models based on your work. I am testing both wind and hydro generators. This to use for charging boat (wind) and cabin (wind and hydro) What i miss in your different videos is som Watt numbers. How many Watts does your different generators make at given rpm?
That's impressive just for the fact that the highest wind speed at 2m/s is around half of the minimum required wind speed for a 3 blade turbine
Would a stack of magnet disks and coils make electrify? Or would having so many magnets and coils so close together cancel it all out. For instance 6 magnet disks with 5 coils between them rotated my a turbine/gears. It seems with enough torque to turn a large stack could be an answer to folks that have limited space.
That little turbine is just gorgeous, have you tried using capacitors in series to cancel the back-EMF generated in motors and the generator itself? Eliminating that little problem would be huge.
The "back-EMF" is what makes it a generator, the more the better.
@@danedmiston9673 Have you experimentally verified that? Because that doesn't match what I've learned from studying Tesla and Steinmetz works, among others.
The input torque of an electrical generator would free spin freely and indefinitely if not for 2 things, Friction and the Backwards Translation of Load in the form of a reverse magnetic field which forms as a result of the forward current, and which opposes the input motion. This reverse torque fighting the input torque requires more and more energy to be applied at the input to continue the ability for the extraction of energy at the output.
Tesla spoke about this reverse current and reverse magnetic field, now called the Lenz Law. Tesla opposed the reverse torque natural occurrence, with the introduction of capacitors into an already inductive generator coil circuit. This is evident in the writing of Tesla's pancake coil patent. But more importantly he invented resonant electrical circuits, the resulting oscillations that occur within the same capacitive / inductive circuits, which alternately transmits magnetic and then dielectric pulses, over time, which each passing electrical half wave, and influence other similar circuits with the same electrical resonant frequency.
The key here is that these secondary circuits are forced into electrical oscillation without a backwards translation of load, so long as the frequency remains perfect on both circuits. In other words, if you can keep the circuits resonating while you extract power from the second circuit, you will be able to withdraw more energy from the output than there is needed at the input to keep the system running. Then you can loop a portion of the output to power the input continuously and indefinitely. This has been successfully done and demonstrated in the work of Don Smith of Texas USA, and Tariel Kapanadze, of the soviet satellite country Georgia.
The configuration is Tesla's patent 645576, System of Transmission of Electrical Energy. The configuration is Resonant circuits that are connected via the dielectric field.
Although an optimal generator would be a lossless type that doesn't produce magnetism in its operation, instead maintaining lossless transmission in the form of dielectric current, this is how Tesla's hairpin circuit works by cleaning out the magnetism in an already inductive current, although I don't know if it's possible to generate pure dielectric current in the source.
Although it's possible a generator that has had its back-emf suppressed via capacitive resonance is producing dielectricity instead of regular electricity, more research needed.

What if you punched some holes at the bottom of the cone to make use of the pressure differential you'll have created? Could you drive a secondary and lower power turbine elsewhere in the system?

hey ive got two earlier dyson cordless vacuums only thing wrong with them is the battery. gonna fix one but the other.... was kinda thinking the motor might be good for a wind turbine? thoughts?
An aquatic variant would work well in the channels :O
