  • This simple, but beautiful kitchen island top is made from solid 6/4 cherry wood. The top is finished with Osmo Wood Protector as a base coat and then three coats of equal parts boiled linseed oil (BLO), Satin Poly and mineral spirits.

    This kitchen island top was a custom commission. Made from solid 6/4 cherry wood and finished with OSMO wood protector and then a few coats of an oil and poly blend.

    Great piece. Thank you for labelling all the stages. Didi you do a final sanding after raising the grain?

      @vanvleetwoodworking  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes I did. Very light and quick sanding with 220.

    Great job, jealous of your shop. My only concern is the paint thinner on wood where food will be.

      Thanks for watching. That thinner should flash off quickly and I always tell my clients to give the finish two weeks to fully cure before heavy use.

    Some of the clips were a tad dark, but overall, I enjoyed the video 😊

      I agree. Something happened in the TH-cam encoding during upload and processing that I need to look into.

    Just a question. Why didnt your chalk triangles not match at the tips after glueing the boards

    • @vanvleetwoodworking
      @vanvleetwoodworking  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Good catch! To get the desired final width, I actually had to trim some of the boards down. When I did the initial layout, they were a bit oversized.

    The lightning in your workshop needs to be brighter...more of a natural light ambiance

      It's actually something with the way TH-cam encoded the video after I uploaded it. My shop is actually really bright. I need to research what happened there because in editing it is not dark at all. Thanks for watching!

    Why would it be a bad idea?

    • @vanvleetwoodworking
      @vanvleetwoodworking  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just depending on how someone uses it, maybe wood isn't the best medium? Maybe?

      @@jdawkins111 what I meant by that is. I don't need to see every board being plain, jointed, glued and clamped. But that's just me.
