actually, "circus maximus" refers to the ancient roman chariot racing/stadium, the piece is meant to signify the gladiators and barbaric theatrical spectacle it was (the piece sounds much more grand and terrifying when you imagine this :D )
26:15 is simply one of the coolest moments in contemporary music I have ever heard, the sheer power in the whole orchestra absolutely screaming with the conductor's wild gesticulations just makes me wanna punch a hole in the wall or something... While sitting in my room completely alone:D You can really SEE the percussionists physical struggle, and I just love it.
I saw this piece played live at a college and if i ever become a conductor or music teacher i would love to be able to conduct this piece.. or actually play with a group. #goals
Absolutely Stunning!!! The music of Corigliano is a demonstration of his being one of the greats. And what a musical group this is for a University. I can hear overtones of his Age of Rememberance. Another outstanding number.
Im looking at the ful score and its not easy to read. Schirmer publishes his fantastic music. I'm defin gonna steal as much as I can from him. The night section is full of lo brass trills but you need to hear it in concert I wasnt able. to make it out here. The page is full of black lines trills and tremolos all marked pianissimo pianisso and flute enters on page 45 with solo. I see har p on stage but no piano . I'll have to spend some time with this music- its orth it. hop i can find the ostinato, piano concerto and other symphonies! What a master. He still sounds post-romantic to me like Resphigi and Ives mixed up wildly!
Rob James In the score, there are multiple measures of free time that are marked with rehearsal marks. The only real way to convey a pass of such meter is to conduct with a signal. Also, which is why Sedatole did not conduct the second movement, as the majority of it is without meter. (Actually, most of the piece is without meter)

I heard this for the first time in November 2016, following the 2016 Presidential election. There was just something so horrific about what had happened nationally in the United States at that time, the conspiracy theories, the pure acceptance of nightmarish, foul, vulgar behavior of a demented man-child in the name of some political stance. This was the soundtrack of the terrible victory, and the polis bowing to the carnivalesque, or trying to resist it.
"So, you're in the symphony... what instrument do you play?"
"... The 12 gauge"
so how do we know you are an American "my instrument is a 12 gauge shotgun"
The piece is so dissonant that when I got to the Prayer movement I felt strange. But at the end of the coda, we went back to normal. Loved it! 20/10
the most horrific part of this piece is simply trying to imagine a circus with this theme song, simply amazing

A circus???Bruh I thought its some Kind of patriotic American music, Wild-Western-like

I saw this be performed last night. Absolutely beautiful live. You are practically immersed into the music, and it's more of an experience. I love it.
The audience covering up their ears makes me laugh pretty hard. What a great piece of music!
We watched this in class today - it has to be one of the most impressive peices I have ever heard! :D
23:50 is my favorite part by far
Unique piece of music wow 😯

just saw this at ASU last night..Sat pretty close to the middle. What an amazing experience.
Esta noche tendré la oportunidad de verla en el Teatro Solís de Montevideo!
For no reason at all, the first section sounds like something straight out of Zelda Majoras Mask.
34:30 is what you came to see!
This reminds me a lot of The Rite Of Spring, I approve.
Hilarious!
My husband and I enjoyed this yesterday, at the Carnegie, NY! Joyous performance!
I wanted to see this performance but could not attend. Thanks for showing me the wonderful performance that I missed.
simply incredible. I can't wait to play this with the wind ensemble I'm lucky enough to be a member of this spring. :)
Légendaire ✨✨ 34:30

Không có gì có thể diễn tả được nó hay và hòa quyện âm giao hưởng khiến tôi nổi da gà ớn lạnh nhất chưa từng có✅
@AndyMan4000 Wow, you're lucky! I would love to play something like this!
9:40
Whats the deal with the conductor counting with his fingers? I'm assuming instructions in the score but can anyone help?
Rob James

Google "John corigliano Circus Maximus issuu" for a PDF
holy smokes 20:40 scared the bijesus outta me!
what the hell is that ratchet
When did this kind of "circus music" theme become popular and why? It runs through some of Mingus' stuff I have noted and now it seems the same here.

Mingus never wrote like this. You're mistaking dissonance with clashing harmony.
The guy with the shot gun looks like one of my old teachers from 6th grade…

Paeece que necesitan un compositor que use también una ametralladora , ya que está
I think this is a metaphor of actually losing it and feeling disconnected

What genre would this be?
@@duckworthlover911 but marching band and orchestra aren't genres.
Contemporary Classical Music

I just wondering, how they write the whole masterpiece without any digital technology..
This is the most American concert.
Now how is that gunshot notated?
Hes about to cast a spell on hryy potter with that wand
7:29 random coughing
8:06 sounds like dogs barking
