Brooo I had a crazy kind of experience I looked into the eyes of 1 and man...he looked soo happy and at peace. That moment on I always went to the zoo to see him.
Saw a female gorilla at the Bronx Zoo once whose face and body language were so human you'd swear they really were. She looked completely done with everyones BS. We made eye contact, and I understood more than I cared to.
Seeing the sadness in his expression through the reflections of everybody crowded around him breaks my heart. He deserves to be in a much quieter place without a bunch of obnoxious kids screaming constantly

I saw some gorillas in Bristol zoo several years ago and left with a feeling of great sadness. These amazing beings don't deserve to be locked up like this.

Not to mention I just wanna point out alot of zoo keepers form bonds with the animals they take care of and most of the time zookeepers don't go home and stay at the zoo almost 24/7 just to make sure the animals are alright at all times. Alot of species have been saved from extinction BECAUSE of zoos. For example, the Arabian oryx was extinct in the wild but was saved from total extinction thanks to zoos and through breeding programs, was reintroduced into the wild. Again, zoos aren't bad as you think.

I'm not trying to be mean, but what if he's really enjoying life knowing he gets free medical care, the best bananas in town and once in awhile he gets some booty for "mating" purposes. Seems like a worry free life, plus no worries of tigers lol

Boi these aren't wild they won't survive they don't know what the outside is they were born in the zoo and feel safe. In any good zoo they should inform that they will not act the same in the wild and you can infact go on wild safari viewings. Their lost and confused scared and uncomfortable. It's like releasing a kitten into the wild. Yes is not like a pet but it's not wild either. Putting it in that environment is cruel, especially since it doesn't know how to survive alone or around wild animals of it's own kind. It's own kind would kill it or leave it behind because it's grown and can't seem to help the pack or herd if they even travel in groups, if not you just threw something that's gonna look around think its all pretty then get scared cus it doesn't know what's going on and die. It's not a good idea to look a gorilla in the eyes. It's often a challenge/sign of aggression among them. When it locked eyes with the camera I looked away by reflex. I thought a freak out was coming.

In Dublin Zoo, the are enclosed and you cam only view the through holes the size of a big plate. They really dont like being stared at like this. This was a good solution! Much more humane!

Gorillas and chimps are our closest cousins in the animal world, so it's not very far fetched to assume a lot of similarities. There has been a shit ton of research into the emotions of animals and it's been shown many times that almost all mammals feel the same emotions, have the same hormonal systems and share most of the same kinds of internal organs. Their brains have the same fundamental functions and structures as ours and research on humans has shown that facial expressions are universal and independent of culture. There is no reason to believe that this wouldn't extend to the great apes as well. Again, you're drawing an arbitrary line between humans and animals that isn't supported by any scientific findings.

looking into the eyes of that gorilla while the reflection of laughing humans gives me such a heavy feeling. You can almost step into the soul of the gorilla and see it’s pain, almost feel it. As his eyes glance at one anther analyzing the situation you understand that this creature is intelligent enough to know it’s been locked up it’s entire life and that’s heart breaking.

Not entirely true. That looks like an a great habitat. Gorillas only move when the food runs out. These guys dont have to worry about diseases, get the best food they like, fruits, and dont have to worry about getting attacked by others completing for territory. Dunno if you know, but when food and mates are gone, gorillas, esp the silver backs, will go on massacres and kill mercilessly any others in the group.

In all likelihood, he doesn't even know what being trapped is, nor what freedom is. Also, if you freed him, he'd die immediately. The reason he's feeling annoyed or sad is because of the unending noise from the people there. It's like tinitis times 100(or however you spell it). The only other alternative might be a type of national park, but with no social skills, he wouldn't function in a pack, and unless they spent quite a lot of resources on every single animal living like this, they'd most likely die out there too. Point being that the only other alternative is death.
His enclosure looks well maintained and it’s beats being hunted in the wild and skinned alive or whatever these savages do to wild animals. Also remember that some poor zoo animals had to spend their life in a cage. I’m sure some of those animals would love to have what this gorilla has...

This is incredibly powerful... you can see his eyes and the pain and grief he feels... and then the camera catches the humans reflections of how they are laughing and enjoying giving us a a direct view of what this poor animal see’s on a daily basis

Alot of zoos aren't actually as bad as you think. Zoos wouldn't be allowed to stay open at all if the animal habitats were poorly kept and the animals weren't taken care of. Not to mention I just wanna point out alot of zoo keepers form bonds with the animals they take care of and most of the time zookeepers don't go home and stay at the zoo almost 24/7 just to make sure the animals are alright at all times. Alot of species have been saved from extinction BECAUSE of zoos. For example, the Arabian oryx was extinct in the wild but was saved from total extinction thanks to zoos and through breeding programs, was reintroduced into the wild. Again, zoos aren't bad as you think.

Boi these aren't wild they won't survive they don't know what the outside is they were born in the zoo and feel safe. Now they do get agitated cus their not pets either their raised with their own room and small environment that makes them feel safe. Stop acting like we stole them from the wild. In any good zoo they should inform that they will not act the same in the wild and you can infact go on wild safari viewings. Their lost and confused scared and uncomfortable. It's like releasing a kitten into the wild. Yes is not like a pet but it's not wild either. Putting it in that environment is cruel, especially since it doesn't know how to survive alone or around wild animals of it's own kind. It's own kind would kill it or leave it behind because it's grown and can't seem to help the pack or herd if they even travel in groups, if not you just threw something that's gonna look around think its all pretty then get scared cus it doesn't know what's going on and die. It's not a good idea to look a gorilla in the eyes. It's often a challenge/sign of aggression among them. When it locked eyes with the camera I looked away by reflex. I thought a freak out was coming.

In Dublin Zoo, the are enclosed and you cam only view the through holes the size of a big plate. They really dont like being stared at like this. This was a good solution! Much more humane!

Gorillas and chimps are our closest cousins in the animal world, so it's not very far fetched to assume a lot of similarities. There has been a shit ton of research into the emotions of animals and it's been shown many times that almost all mammals feel the same emotions, have the same hormonal systems and share most of the same kinds of internal organs. Their brains have the same fundamental functions and structures as ours and research on humans has shown that facial expressions are universal and independent of culture. There is no reason to believe that this wouldn't extend to the great apes as well. Again, you're drawing an arbitrary line between humans and animals that isn't supported by any scientific findings.

They're talking to him as if he was a goldfish. He just doesn't want to be trapped anymore
In all likelihood, he doesn't even know what being trapped is, nor what freedom is. Also, if you freed him, he'd die immediately.
The reason he's feeling annoyed or sad is because of the unending noise from the people there. It's like tinitis times 100(or however you spell it).
The only other alternative might be a type of national park, but with no social skills, he wouldn't function in a pack, and unless they spent quite a lot of resources on every single animal living like this, they'd most likely die out there too. Point being that the only other alternative is death.
So sad.
His enclosure looks well maintained and it’s beats being hunted in the wild and skinned alive or whatever these savages do to wild animals. Also remember that some poor zoo animals had to spend their life in a cage. I’m sure some of those animals would love to have what this gorilla has...
@@jonboi1488 it's not natural for them to be enclosed in any setting. Most of these animals are captured and as for rehabilitation ... their goal should be to rehabilitate them so they are fit for the wild. Adopting a gorilla who has zero chances is understandable.... the rest of the excuses are bs
Maybe they could just reduce how long public viewing is or at least make the enclosures extra sound proof if they aren't already. But, I understand they need to make enough money to keep running.

This is incredibly powerful... you can see his eyes and the pain and grief he feels... and then the camera catches the humans reflections of how they are laughing and enjoying giving us a a direct view of what this poor animal see’s on a daily basis
Agreed. My heart sunk even more when the humans were reflected in the glass. His eyes and walk said so much.
Makes one wonder who is the real "savage animal" here. I get the preservation and protection thing, but do it without people tormenting them all the time. Also if an animal is in no danger, leave it in the wild.
I had the same exact thought when I saw the people in the reflection. This made me incredibly sad 😭

His eyes and the people's reflection. He knows his status in life. A piece of property, incarcerated for life in a very large 4x4 cell. For display purposes.
He looks like he’s agitated at first, then he looks calm. Then he itches his butt, sniffed it, and flipped us off with the same finger. Something deeper was going on there. You can see in his face, he’s intelligent.
He looks like he could be ill. I hope they tended to his health.

Go outside, and see for yourself how superior we are without all of our fancy modern things, when it comes down to nothing else than surviving in and with your surroundings.
