I remember watching this video in early 2020 and buying The Ventilator Book. Now Im in RT school, and still like to go back and re read it. Thanks Eddie
Thanks for this comment, Brett. The greatest reward of all my side-ventures is hearing about the positive impact the content has on some folks such as yourself
Thanks for this wonderful video. Please keep on adding more Illustrated tutorials for icu beginners. It would really great to have a better understanding on basic icu topics. Ventilator and bipap/cpap are really wonderful things.. Please do consider
It is the amount of pressure in the lung at end inspiration and before expiration begins. It is very hard to obtain because it requires pausing the ventilator (at end inspriration) for a period of a few seconds. Most times the patient can override your attempts during that maneuver because of their respiratory drive and not being sedated "enough". If possible it's good to keep plateau pressures at or below 35. Also, it is very helpful to document the trend occuring in Plateau pressures (PP). If PP starts to decrease that's usually good. If they start increasing that can imply the lungs are starting to get stiffer (one indicator of ARDS forming). Hope this helps. I am a retired RRT and instructor in Respiratory Care in St. Louis.
eddyjoemd do u have any videos on the physiological process that occurs after Volutrauma occurs such as stroke if that occurs or any other secondary injuries as a result of Volutrauma ? Thx for the knowledge. 💕
Typically, just sedation is used for most patients on ventilators. Paralytics are commonly used for patients with severe ARDS when high ventilator settings are still not oxygenating the patient. This article provides details about paralytics in ARDS. rc.rcjournal.com/content/61/6/830
THANK YOU for mentioning the RT!!! Most don’t in these tutorials.
