- Today, Caleb from Brownells explains how to effectively use the Breechtool, a specialized tool for cleaning the breech and barrel extension areas of firearms, particularly the AR-15 and similar models. Here's a summary of the main points discussed:
Description and Functionality: The Breechtool features interchangeable brush heads, which can be replaced as they wear out. The primary function is to clean the star chamber area of the barrel extension, a task it performs efficiently.
How to Use: Apply oil to the brush, and use it to clean inside the barrel extension. The tool also includes a hook feature for using a cleaning patch more effectively within the breech area.
Additional Features: Beyond the brush and hook, the tool includes a spike for scraping carbon build-up from the bolt carrier group and other areas where carbon accumulates.
Variants of the Breechtool: The tool is available in several versions including the original, the Ops pack which includes additional brush heads, and a lighter version without the folding feature or spike.
This tool is praised for its utility and ease of use, particularly for those who regularly maintain AR-15 style firearms. If you have questions about the Breechtool or its usage, feel free to leave a comment below. - กีฬา
A door-breaching demonstration on different frames would be awesome!
chamber brush works very well too
Yup and that’s all anyone needs. This tool is worthless.
I usually hit my chamber area with a can of brake parts cleaner and does a pretty good job.
Acetone (nail polish remover) also works great, and is much cheaper.
@@bigmike-Brake parts cleaner is acetone.
@@5jjt incorrect; brake cleaner's not acetone. It's got ketones and a variety of volatile organic compounds like perc and mecl.
Brake cleaner or acetone is my go to’s for almost everything. I machined a 9 inch Dremel extension on my lathe, and just go through the back of the upper with a small round wire brush bit. I just tape the extension so it doesn’t gouge anything
@@angeldesigns1385 Attaboy! It's also worth mentioning the Relia-Bolt. It's got chamfered non-critical surfaces on the bolt lugs (e.g. the parts that don't engage with the lockup), and it's designed to allow a fair amount of buildup to be present in the star chamber without actually negatively impacting performance of the weapon. Highly worth looking into.
I didn’t know you were a combat engineer. I like you even more now. I’ve worked with a lot of engineers in my time as a grunt. Thank you for your service.
Grunt or Ground Pounder? Just sayin'
@@chriserickson4417 I didn’t know there was a difference. 11 series.
@@chriserickson4417 Grunts are ground pounders.
@@chriserickson4417 11 series.
Caleb is basically tactical Elvis
The combat engineer in me was thinking the same thing. Det cord. C4. Water charges. Got me all excited.
I'd definitely watch a video on door breaching tools
A curved piece of metal! What will they think of next? EDIT: AND A SPIKE!! AAAAAH! I'M LOSING MIND!
Why not just use the standard M16 chamber brush? Those lug bristles get in there and clean that area better than just about anything.
Exactly.
I’m guessing preferences. The cleaning rod was a feature absent from British service rifles since the Magazine Lee Enfield Mk I* rifle in 1899, preferring smaller and lighter pull-through chains or ropes and a combination tool. The cleaning kits for the later SMLE Mk III, Lee Enfield No. 4 and No. 5, L1A1 SLR, and L85 would also have a pull-through line and a combination tool.
The standard M16 chamber brush relies on a multi-part cleaning rod. Which is the preference of other European militaries as well such as the French and Swiss, but other European armies have likewise ditched cleaning rods such as the Swedes.
This is just another wasteful consumable.
Brownells could make a dummy 5.56 bolt with shortened lugs (or a cleaning surface to stand in place of and replace each lug) to leave space for some sort of scrubbing material on the back of each lug so that when the bolt goes into the chamber and closes, it scrubs the back of the chamber lugs.
All you'd have to do is rack the BCG a bunch of times, then spray the chamber out or wipe the chamber clean.
Man, just wipe it out with some q-tips.
No need to reinvent the wheel on this one.
@@mail-qh2qcyou don't comprestand. If you buy my new tool women will like you!
patent it!
Nice to see these tools as an option. I like the Swabits for the chamber area. Works well, and cleans quite fast.
They are also washable and reusable..Swabits work great..
I thought what he thought... This is a good video to... Can't wait for the breach tool video we where thinking of.
I actually have used this tool. Is it necessary? No. Are there other alternatives? Yes. On the other hand, I found this tool to be quite effective at cleaning some hard to reach areas. I like it and I will keep using it.
How about an old tooth brush and a chamber brush
Nifty! However I stick to my Otis Star Chamber tool and Real Avid AR 15 Plier/Multitool.
Good morning, always very informative. I do like your videos. Thank you
I like these Info-merchials! Always good products & reviews!
Love to see the other breaching content on your channel.
We had a screwdriver handle with a screw in flexible shaft attached to a chamber brush.
A little parts cleaner, insert and twist.
Pistol cleaning rod works too.
Actually, I use a section of a takedown cleaning rod and use my cordless drill with chamber brush.
I remain ever hopeful for the other breach tool video.
I've always carried a modified paint can opener for the same use. It has the bonus end for BEvERages.
Same here
That's a great idea. Thanks for that.
You can also use it to strip a stuck casing from the breech.
Plus paint can openers are free at Lowe’s and Home Depot 👌👌👌
@@bisleyblackhawk1288 now if we could just get free ammo at Lowe's or HD
For those interested in more Caleb Savant content he's got his own channel let's go check it out, hopefully we can get him to do some other breaching content.
If I don't have a chamber brush I put a worn-out 45 wire brush on the end of a cleaning rod and use it to twist a large patch in the chamber. I scrape off any carbon buildup with an old knife. If I need to pry open a bolt, I use a flathead screwdriver.
You must be really growing as a person...since joing Brownells. You have finally added some color to your wardrope!!! Bravo.
What is wrong with the old fashioned chamber brush?
Doesn't get the star chamber shiny enough for drill sgt's liking
I have found if you have a AR-15/10 "Full chamber brush" it has the the breech brush on it as does a good job at cleaning...then use a patch and a polymer pick to finish it off...just me on this..
The problem is that people say those don't touch the back of the lugs.
@@5jjt Pipe cleaners can be formed into any size, shape, and angle. I twist about 6 of them together and leave one end loose, kind of like a paintbrush. Then you can bend it and get into all those weird angles. Those and q-tips are a lifesaver. Also, plastic picks of any kind can take off the stuck on stuff.
@@5jjt How does it not touch the back of the lugs? The stainless part of the brush is bigger than the entire group of lugs and hits the front as it is inserted, goes through the spaces between the lugs, gets rotated in the space between the lugs and chamber, and then hits the back of the lugs as it is being withdrawn.
@@5jjtit does if you turn it...
We used a chamber brush back in the 80's-90's M16A1, A2, and I still use it today, and they're a lot cheaper then that tool.
That's a beautiful rifle!
That is a very clever gadget.
You could also buy a cheap infant bottle cleaning set that comes with different brushes that work great.
Caleb thanks for sharing your tips and knowledge with us. It is extremely helpful. I have two questions, when you go to the range, 1 what multi tool do you take and 2 what tools would you recommend to put together a range tool kit. thanks
Nice rifle.
I'm going to get one of those right after I get everything else.
That tool is perfect for making an ex-mil gunsmith buy home improvement supplies. In seriousness, it may also be useful for cleaning around the gas tube in the upper. The brush looks small enough. Otherwise, it's a neat gadget that will end up at the bottom of my cleaning supplies drawer.
Q-tips work great
And it only takes a dozen or so.
If you ever need help with those full auto mag dumps, I could help you do some. Wouldn’t want anyone getting too fatigued doing lots of mag dumps… lol! That’s definitely fun time!
I sonic clean the the upper and use my trusty q-tips to get my chamber area.
I've used dental tools for years to do this. But I like the way the tool seems to work.
Can we get a video of the actual tools you carry in your range kit??
I also expected a video on breaching tools. Can you do one please?
Could possibly use it to pry out stuck cases.
The M-1 Garand has a Breech Brush and works fine.
The M-16/AR-15 also has one and it even has a special wider portion at the end to clean the locking lugs.
Ever watch Chad's channel - sotar - school of the American rifle ! NO metal on metal on these guns - scraping 👍😎
it's mild steel. It's fine.
@@CalebSavant He doesn't recommend brass bristle brushes even , so must be a reason , been doing his thing for many years ! 🤓
Essayons! I didn't know you were also a Combat Engineer
we're everywhere.
Hey Caleb, can you recommend a tool to deburr the chamber of my 6.5 Grendel upper? My custom barrel came burr'd up real bad and my extractor took a bite out of the rim on my second shot of *steel case* ammo!
One of those felt type cleaning brushes and some polishing compound can work wonders. You can also wrap 400 grit sandpaper around an old bore mop and hit it responsibly with a drill. There are some older websites that had some good pictures and suggestions on grit for polishing a chamber.
Get a flashlight and find WHERE the problem actually is and go from there.
Was the case itself sticking or do you have a big sharp esge on the extractor?
@@mattfleming86 The AR was suffering from failure to extract. It's a custom mid-length AdamsArms short-stroke piston on a 16.5in HBAR-profile 6.5mm Grendel barrel. Rifle comes out to 11lbs fully loaded.
Noticed on the first shot (new barrel) that the case was all scratched up after the second shot failed to extract; case rim had a bite taken out of it by the extractor. RSO told me that's because the chamber wasn't lubricated and the burrs were catching on the case. I was like OK and let him lube it up (super liberally I might add) but after that I finished my ammo supply without issue but came home to look it up. Turns out the chamber shouldn't be lubed because that creates a lane for gas to bypass the case and potentially come back in my face. Don't like the sound of that so I wanna know if there's a standalone tool I could use since I don't own drills or any other-type gunsmithing tools to solve these kinds of problems. Gunsmith isn't super trustworthy either.
If you put "breech tool" in the catalog search you get about 300 hits. After 3 or 4 pages of unrelated items of more than 20 pages i gave up. Can you give us a brand or more precise search term or a link to find the items mentioned? Why make this hard?
Just a bent bore brush on a threaded rod works pretty well too. Can get a pack of them for a few bucks.
Does Brownells offer that upper receiver for sale?
I've been doing this exact same thing using gun picks. Cheaper also.
We need a drill attachment that has reverse bristles to scrub the back of the chamber lugs.
YES!
Star chamber cleaning pads and handle from Real Avid.
Wrap a patch around them, works awesome!!!
Apparently we had the same mind set when we heard breach tool😂
I prefer your line of thought! 💥 🚪
Not showing up on Brownells Germany ? 🤔
maybe because you can buy it directly from the manufacturer in the UK? sure one-stop-shopping would be nice but NHMD Ltd ships internationally
Dewey rod for the win.
That's some turn it into the armorer clean the finish off shit right there. I got a 12 gauge bore brush and Q-tips.
😂😂😂 That what the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the title. Kicking in doors!!!! 😂😂😂😂
I guess I was wrong 😂😂😂
Be honest, how many other people clicked on this thinking we'd be watching how to breech doors with an AR?
I believe J Dewey makes a tool also.
Is there a youtube rule or something that keeps them from posting links to the products shown in these videos?
I think so, YT frowns on pews and all things pew related.
Yes
Morning 👋
LOL i was thinking it was gonna be weird flat bullets to punch out door hinges and locks
I just pop the upper off, flip it over, take out the bolt and use a plastic dental pick to scrape a rag soaked in clp around.
Maybe just use a AR chamber brush that cleans the lugs, recess and chamber at once. Like most do now.
I think you have a breach tool in that safe, sir.
I've owned 22 AR-15s in my life (I still have four). That damned Star Chamber is absolutely the most hateful thing about the AR.
It's very telling when an entire industry springs up making gadgets to help clean the AR.
I have a breech brush that is a lot faster and the breech is shinny clean.
Breech
I spy a third pin hole. Nice.
I saw "breechtool" and was expecting an underbarrel 12g master key 😅
Star chamber tools.
Brake cleaner. Wire brush. Case of beer.
I guess it beats a pinky and a cotton patch, lol.
Hmmmm 733 and tons of mag dumps……did somebody rob a bank?
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Hmmm, I made something like that years ago! Without the help of the Brits....The benefits of working in a machine shop 😎
Never seen those here in Europe.
I use a wet patch around a chamber brush and a bent air gun nozzle.
I notice you whistle when you make an S sound. I had my volume up pretty high and the speakers really drilled it into my ear. lol
There are audio editing tools that can eliminate the whistling S sound.
Wait, you guys clean your rifles?
#AKMasterRace
a toothbrush is my friend for all cleanings...
Would not a Toothbrush work ?
I usually just use a toothbrush and some clp
There is no end to ways to spend your money on questionable products that do basically the same job as every other tool. But HEY! it's new so someone needs it.
Just bend a q tip 90 degrees.
Bent Q tips have worked for me for well over 40 years.
There's a tool for everything . This way you wind up with a toolbox full of worthless tools. And they wind up with a cash register full of money. Special cleaning tool for a rifle that at one time was said to be self cleaning lol.
Caleb, you strike me as a young man that is not too slick with the ladies
Lmao door breaching
Star chamber? Brah!
Also, you don't need your rifle to be inspection ready clean for it to work. If you do, don't ever look inside your engine of your car or a video of the inside of an engine. You would have nightmares of how dirty it is but still somehow works. But you say an engine is designed to be dirty on the inside and still work. Well, so is your "quality" firearm.
Nice presentation, but this tool doesn't seem to make the cleaning job easier or more effective.🤷🏽♀️
Wow that doesn’t look efficient at all. I have a pistol cleaning rod with a chamber brush to start and a worn chamber brush with a patch wrapped around it to finish.
fancy pants tool not so fancy, said the generic chamber brush
The older you get, the more often you have to clean your breaches......
Sorry, that's all I could think of.... 🥴😔
Get a paint can opener for buck
Pass
Im usially excited for AR gadgets but honestly id never ever use this. For one i dont clean my AR's and for two it looks clunky and not very helpful
Yeah, a regular chamber brush would be way better than this
Caleb said; “European” and I immediately did not want it.
Really
Things you don't need!
who else really wants them to sell breaching charges?
I don't know if Brownells has them but you can buy 12 gauge shotgun breaching rounds. They have a frangible load that tends to get slowed down enough by the door that it doesn't travel very far past it.
