I agree. Most of the time they were just being silly.
Some sketches could be viewed as satire, but I consider satire to be about current events, for example making fun of a sitting queen or president, while Monty Python’s humor was more timeless. I remember a sketch where a woman is receiving a gasstove or oven at home, but the paperwork is incorrect and it becomes a whole bureaucratic problem and in the end there’s a long line of gasstove mechanics/salesmen/installers lining up in the street. That’s not satire; it’s a comment on bureaucracy and ineffecient businesses of all times.
“Satire: the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.”

A true testament to Graham Chapman's insight and intelligence. John Cleese said about Chapman that he (Chapman) reminded him of a perfect "machine" of a person. He just needed "a few ajustments", and he would have been one of the greatest minds and people in modern time. Cleese also praises Chapman as "the best potenital actor [of the Monty Pythons]..." That is true reason that Chapman was chossen, by the group, to play the lead character in both "The Quest for the Holy Grail" and "Life of Brian". I.e. in the roles as "King Arthur" and "Brian" these movies.
In 1988 Chapman passed away because of cancer at the age of 48. What a loss. I am sure he had had a lot more to share. Like THIS mix of comedy and wisdom.

Reminder: Graham Chapman was a comedian. That should put the "elitist asshole" bit into some perspective.
Anyway, I found this great fun to watch. Thanks for posting it.

Brilliant man, and so funny. I absolutely love the section on artificially-imposed gender roles. We did away with this stupid bullshit in the '60s and the conservatives have brought it back!

There was an audiobook of A LIAR'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY published just over 20 years ago. I bought it on cassette then....I had the feeling that it was an unfinished work....the audio version was published posthumously, and the audio was not exactly THX, but it was great to hear him speak in his own voice about his own life.

Graham, everything you say IS staggeringly important. I've always thought you were ahead of your time. Always. I can't imagine how many young gays would've been influenced by you and your openness at the time. Not just them, anyone wouldve been inspired by your mind. This talk is what we need. Words of freeness tied with humor over seriousness, which of course you are unmatched at. Come to think of it, you would've made a great president. Handsome ledgend ❤🖤
